Who to Draft @ #12 if ...

Recommended Posts

I would take Allen if he was there, but I don't think he will be.  If Allen also was gone, I would go Roquan Smith (LB-Georgia) or Calvin Ridley (WR-Alabama).  MLB and WR are big needs on this team as of now.

I think 12 is too high for Jackson, but I guess you have to over-draft QB's.  12 is a good spot to take Allen, but if 4 QB's go before 12 a Blue chip player like Derwin James or Roquan Smith will be there.  I'd take Allen at 12 first, then if all 4 top QB's are gone, I'm taking one of blue chip position players that fall.

Allen could fall if  1-Darnold, 2-Chubb/Barkley, 3-Rosen, 4-Chubb/Barkely and the Broncs don't take QB. That would get Allen to #11 to the Fins.

If Allen is there the Broncos take him, IMO.

All depends on the G-men and whether they take Rosen at #2 - then Mayfield goes #3 to the Jets and Allen #5 to the Broncos.

We don't move up and ...

Darnold / Rosen / Mayfield are gone and ...

The Cards and Chargers are still @ 15 & 17 but the Steelers or the Saints have moved up before #22 and want a QB.

Allen ? Jackson ? Rudolph ?  Or none of them ?

Unless Arizona comes up I see only Darnold and Rosen going in the top 11 picks.  Browns and Jets going QB.

Giants and Browns at 2 & 4 are taking a different direction, Broncos and Colts may use their position to trade out with a team like Arizona who may decline based on Mayfield, Allen, Jackson and to a lesser degree Rudolph being available and only Buffalo positioned to take a QB ahead of them.

So I honestly see the Bills having their pick of Mayfield, Allen, Jackson or Rudolph at 12 and not seeing another highly probable QB team need other then Arizona at 15.

The question is, if this scenario plays out, who do the Bills select?

I say Allen, but most here will say Mayfield.

Very possible that the Broncos take Chubb in that scenario. Or Barkley if the Browns have taken him already. It's honestly hard to imagine that QBs would go 4 our of the first 5 picks. Nothing close to that has ever happened in the history of the draft that I'm aware of.

True, but I don't think we've ever seen 4 QBs hyped like this year and so many teams needing QBs.

Not a chance in you no where that Lamar Jackson gets past the Cardinals, Chargers, Bengals, Saints, Steelers or Jaguars. Totally out of the realm of possibility.

Improbable on so many levels, but any outcome where Baker Mayfield is available at 12 would be great.

Like most of you, Evans over Hughes at 22. Or Vea, or McGlinchey or Williams. But those are gravy.

It may be the perfect  storm for this to happen since the rookie cap was put in. Quite a few QB needy teams, other teams with aging vets. Not as much elite talent elsewhere at the top of this draft, and a weak QB class on the horizon in 2019. Could add up to a draft first.

If Rosen, Darnold, and Mayfield are gone, I would jump at the chance to draft Allen, though he's not going to start a game for at least a year, or maybe longer IMO.  If all four are gone, I'm planning on drafting a QB at 22 or in the second round depending on how the draft flows.  At #12, I''ll be looking at players like Edmunds, Roquon Smith, Calvin Ridley, or maybe a DT like Vita Vea.

I'm really surprised so many are saying Jackson. Hard to picture any QB outside the top 4 having a chance at being franchise guys we can consistently win with the next 10+ years. That being said our FO didn't trade up to 12 for Jackson. I'd bet money he could be had at 21 and even then I'd pass on him (way less accurate than Vick coming out), Rudolph (looks the part but it's a mirage, very below average decision making...watch an entire OK state game) and every other QB past the top 4 in this class.

If we're not going after one of the top 4 QBs (Darnold, Allen, Rosen, Mayfield) getting Roquan Smith (a Lavonte David clone) or Tremaine Edmunds (reminds me of Urlacher) at pick 12 would be amazing. Then we go BPA the rest of the way.

We'll get our franchise QB eventually (hopefully we get one of the top 4) but no point in forcing it with guys who don't fit (i.e. Losman and Manuel). Hopefully in the meantime we have a better version of Andy Dalton in AJ McCarron.
