Punching Bag
QB Matt Barkley signs two-year deal with Bengals http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/22806742/qb-matt-barkley-signs-two-year-deal-cincinnati-bengals https://www.cincyjungle.com/2018/3/17/17133470/nfl-free-agency-2018-bengals-sign-matt-barkley-2-year-contract Quote On Saturday, the team signed Matt Barkley to a contract, he announced on Twitter. According to Geoff Hobson, it’s a two-year deal with a 2018 cap hit of $1.4 million. You could look it as an improvement for Bengals since he has more starts than McCarron although Bears fans I know were not impressed. MrEpsYtown
I actually like the potential of Jeff Driskel quite a bit more, but Barkley is a serviceable back up at this point.

Kelly the Dog
Wow. Huge mistake. Barkley is not an NFL quarterback, even a backup.

If Barkley had even lower end arm strength he would be a solid backup and potential starter. That's why NFL men with actual NFL jobs keep signing him. They should, of course, realize that he cannot play because he cannot make all the requisite throws. Which is the only reason he stinks and will always stink, but can wow you in practice and preseason. It's incredible how dumb these people are. It's Peterman's issue, too. He appears to have a noticeably stronger arm than Barkley and it still is likely not enough. Fans often take the wrong approach on arm strength. They are quick to point out all of the QBs with good or even great arm strength who suck and then say, See? Arm strength is not that important! Accuracy and ball placement and anticipation is more important!" They are right but also wrong. A guy with limited or crappy arm strength can never succeed in the regular season NFL. Ever. He will look great in preseason and practice when the game is three-quarters speed, and he will get killed in the regular season when it is four-quarters speed. Arm strength is the most important quality a quarterback can have. But that only means "adequate arm strength." Not a cannon. If you don't have adequate arm strength you will never be good, Barkley doesn't have it. Otherwise, he would have been a top pick and still a viable NFL option. Peterman doesn't appear to have it either.
