Not So Fast on a Huge Deal for Kirk Cousins says Andrew Brandt

Andrew Brandt is wrong. From the stories I am hearing the Jets, Broncos and Cardinals all have Cousins as plan A. They will all be in the market. I believe that the Bills and Cleveland would prefer to draft a guy.

The other FA QBs will all fall in once Cousins choice becomes clear.

$30m a year is coming Kirk's way. Now let me ask you..... YOU LIKE THAT??

Cousins says he wants to win and money is secondary. If that is the case I kinda doubt the Jets will sign him as they tear apart their team to do so!

Captain Kirk is a very bright guy and he knows who won last season and who didn't. He also knows which team has a winning staff and roster will factor into where he goes.

Minnesota and Jacksonville would be firsts. Buffalo would be next in my eyes if they don't spend all those early picks to move up in the draft. Arizona is third and Cleveland, the NY Jets, Denver are last!  I highly doubt he goes to any of those teams unless he gets no other solid offers from the others.

If Buffalo wants him I think they have a solid chance without needing to empty the vault. JMHO

Jax picked up Bortles $19M option, I don't think they're playing.

Not sure why Denver is last?  They still have a good D - #3 on yards #22 on points.  When there's that big a difference you look at what's up, and what's up is that they were #31 in the league on offensive turnovers.

I'm Cousins, I have some questions about their plans, but I put them ahead of the Jets and Cleveland.

....strange how the "franchise QB" is highly coveted here and elsewhere......seem to be far and few between, yet Cousins' jersey apparently says "FRANCHISE QB" on the back.....sure it is Boy Danny Snyder and his gang, but Bruce Allen was a pretty well respected guy in TB (his old man was George, not too bad of a football guy)....so why if the Deadskins have this rare specimen are they so willing to part with it?........sure isn't the money....Snyder throws money and picks around like a drunken sailor....sure doesn't make a helluva lot of sense to me........

I’m so sick of hearing about him. You would think he’s actually done something. I can’t wait until he finally officially signs with Denver so he can go away.

From a financial standpoint he has marvelously worked within the system. When the Redskins didn't get a deal done when they could have the qb and his agent made a decision that there would be no compromising on what they believed his market value not only was but could be. Being tagged for two consecutive years not only put big money in his pocket in the present time but it bought him time as the market was skyrocketing up. Cousins basically placed a bet on himself. He is now close to winning the jackpot. It's not so much that he is going to the market as it is the market is going to him.

jets have a nice little defense being set up. o line is weak but with a couple high picks they can get some talent around kirk. i'd be worried if they signed him

The Jets need help at RB, as have an aging Matt Forte, no great WRs, their best TE is set to be an UFA. There was a reason many felt they had the league's worst roster last season. As eluded the only benefit the Jets have is a ton of cap room.

sure. like i said they have some holes but they also could trade out and pick up extra picks. they still have a lot of cap room even with signing him.  it's a lot of work but if they get kirk thats a big start.

My take is Denver went 5-11 last in the division last year with a first-year defensive minded HC who was almost fired at the end of the season. Elway realized he had given him bad QB's to work with so I think he is giving him another year to see what happens with an upgrade at QB.

Like Cleveland and the Jets, I feel Denver is more than a QB away from taking the AFC West as they face an improved Charger team 9-7, the Chiefs and the Raiders who just hired Gruden. Denver HC fired his OC Mike McCoy during the season (week 10)and replaced him with their QB coach in Bill Musgrave who is not an upgrade in my view.

Denver has a decent receiver corps and but their offensive line is bad and their vaunted defense was 22nd in points allowed last year. (#3 in yards).

I feel a quality QB like Cousins will want to know what he is stepping into when he goes to a team and Denver just has so much uncertainty.

Jets fans will burn down MetLife stadium if Bowles survives another year without making playoffs.  Not an ideal situation for a guy who supposedly has a lot of options.  I'd take Cousins if he signs for something in Garropolo's ballpark.  $28m per year.  You're not getting a decent starter on free agency market under $20m per year.  Cost to move up in draft will be prohibitive.  I'll take above average QB play from Cousins plus all my draft picks over gambling as much as three 1st round picks on potential greatness.
