Psychology of picking a QB

Physical attributes aside, I would think one of the things the brain trust at OBD should be looking at is the psychology of whom they wind up getting for their QB.  Whomever they pick either through FA or the draft is coming into a situation where there is a fan base starved for a winner, and who are even more starved for a QB that they can get behind and see as the hero to the team, and to the city.  Those are pretty sizeable expectations, and I'm wondering what opinions are, of the options out there, which guys might be able to handle those kinds of pressures.

I thought this was about the psychology of fans picking QBs.

I would assume that the FO, or any QB candidate, FA or draftee, would not spend a lot of time analyzing the fan's opinions. It would be a pointless endeavor, and I would assume that Buffalo is not alone in the unhinged fervency its fan base adopts when a section of that fan base draws its ironclad conclusions about a QB.

In theory these aspects of all players are considered before making a selection.

Sometimes you wonder what they are thinking when they draft a player with obvious flaws outside the actual game of football.

Look at Dareus.  The "psychology" of that guy was obviously sufficient to warrant going in another direction with our #3 overall draft pick.

I hope the fan's opinions are not their first priority.  But whomever will be their guy they'll have very weighty expectations placed on them.  I just wonder if they factor that in in any way

As imperfect as the process is,  of course this will be a large part of their determination.

Personally, I think Baker has the most potential in this draft.  Teams too often get caught up on the physical gifts and think they can just teach them to be more accurate or better decision makers.  I would much prefer someone who is accurate, a good decision maker, reads the field, and is field general more than someone who is just a little bigger or stronger.

If I was leading this years offseason for the Bills and targeting a guy in the draft, he would be my target.  While I would be excited to get any of the first round QB this year, Baker is they guy I think is the best prospect overall.

This has been proven time and again to be massively more important than height, hand size, and all that sort of thing.

What these guys forget is that if you can do it, you can do it, even if you're 5'11" or have small hands or are a little slow.

By the same token, if you can't do it, you can't do it, even if you are a great physical specimen like EJ Manuel for example.

Exactly, many QB's have proven you can succeed in the NFL at a shorter height.  Baker will succeed or fail in the NFL because of his ability to play QB in the NFL, not because he is a little over an inch shorter than Rogers.

Does being big have advantages...sure, but it doesn't remotely assure any QB of success.  Does being shorter have some disadvantages...sure, but it doesn't remotely assure any QB of failure.

Baker is also taller than 2 of the best 4 QBs in the NFL right now.  He is one an inch taller than Wilson and a half inch taller than Brees.  So half of the top 4 QB's in todays NFL are smaller than Baker.  Why anyone wants to say his size is an issue is beyond me.
