Mike Mayock was on WGR this morning to talk about college QB's but had some interesting comments about Cousins, almost like he knew something.

Very high regard for McBeane.

Commented on a great DT class.

Yeah I’d hate to land the best QB available. That would totally suck

Sign cousins and use your draft picks, that’s the best option for sure. Just think how getting 4 starters in the first 2 rounds sounds. plus a top 10 QB

Amazing isn’t it?

I think it is only in Buffalo that I witness this, but people feel spending big for a player is coming out of there own Christmas Club account.

This was an excellent discussion with Mayock where he addressed the QBs in the 2018 draft as well as the unusual number potential UFA QBs.

People don’t realize in 4/5 years the deal Cousins signs this offseason will a bargain.

I can't speak for everyone, but I'm kind of sick of this comment/sentiment.  It shows lack of understanding of someone else's argument.  You don't need to agree but come on.

Cousins is my plan A.  He's plug and play and allows us to use our draft picks to fortify the roster (ie add cheap controlled talent) instead of moving into position for a different QB.

If we do grab Cousins in FA, forget the cost which as someone mentioned could be a bargain in 2-3 years, he would be the best QB we have had since Jim Kelly. He's definitely an upgrade over Tyrod, a massive upgrade as a passer. It would also allow us to address many of our other needs with all of those draft picks. It could truly turn out to be the elevation of this franchise from scraping to get in to actually contending in the AFC for many years to come.

I like Mayock. He's definitely knowledgeable in his area of expertise. It's fun to listen to these guys talk this time of year. His sentiment on Jackson is interesting. As electrifying as Vick as a runner? I can see that. But in regards to throwing a football, I believe Vick was better so that is why he was #1 overall. He was right in saying that you have to tailor your offense to make him succeed. He's more electric than Tyrod, but not Tyrod level as a passer. Cool interview thoigh. Thanks for posting.

And I can't speak for everyone either, but I would really like to know from those who are against spending the money on Cousins, what opportunities they think signing Cousins would cause us to lose out on.

It is not my ideal scenario, but if they sign Cousins, then I will be encouraged.

At least they would acknowledging that the QB position is the most important to address.

And, yes, it frees up the draft picks. Could load up a nasty front 7 on D.

Thanks for posting this. The audio is up.

It was just a speculative comment IMO.

We dont have the $ to pay out 30 mill a year for QB

I like what he said about Baker. I hppe that doesnt stop McBeane from drafting him tho.

I swear.  It's like some people think if we don't sign Cousins we could sign JJ Watt, LeVeon Bell and Jalen Ramsey.

Thank you for sharing, this was a great listen and only validates my opinion about a few players, but Mayock continues to show why he's regarded as one of the best scouts and evaluators out there.

To the QB question, it was interesting for Mayock to say "You like Cousins?" essentially unsolicited because Howard asked about Rudolph and Jackson. Now, I've gone on record saying I would prefer the Bills NOT to sign Cousins and I've gone on record saying basically it is just due to age (29) and the fact that such FA money precludes the Bills from going to get other much needed help, ala Offensive / Defensive line, a LB and a CB as well as another WR. But, I like Cousins and I've also gone on record saying as much including when he was Drafted I told a Redskins fan friend of mine that in two years Cousins would be the starter....so, I've been a Cousins supporter from the beginning.

As for Drafting a QB, I also fully agree with Mayock, much to the chagrin of others (some on this board), that Mason Rudolph is a pocket passer, the most accurate QB in this year's Draft, has an NFL arm but not "elite" such as Josh Allen's, and is the most accurate deep ball passer in the Draft. I've also said that accuracy is a big issue for any college QB and that a QB can't add significant percentage points to their accuracy percentage, and that concerns me. Also, while if I'm going all the way up to #2 or #3 - which again I've gone on record hoping the Bills do not - it's for Rosen merely based on talent. I'm not a big Darnold lover and I think Allen is truly gifted, but he needs reconstruction on his mechanics and an ability to stay in a pocket to make the play.

So, I feel better about my love for Rudolph at 21, but could stomach the idea of Cousins if I had to, so long as the Bills had great contingency plans to get the other players they need to build the team, not just the current Draft selection numbers, but additional picks and additional trades to get the players they need to be strong across the board. And I still hate the idea of trading up in a Draft that is rife with truly great QBs....THIS is the Draft year you stand pat and realize in almost any other Draft, the 6th Drafted QB could have very well been the #2 overall selection in other years.
