Buffalo Bills 2018 Salary Cap

Salary cap numbers for AJ McCarron's corrected deal: $3 million (2018) and $7 million (2019).

He gets a $3 million base salary in 2019 ($1.1 million guaranteed for injury; fully guaranteed on fifth day of 2019 league year) and a $1.9 million roster bonus in 2019.

Bills could release McCarron after the 2018 season and take only a $2 million dead-money charge.

Until the Bills cut or restructure some BIG contracts  it looks as if they've burned through what cap space they have beyond the rookie reserve.

Mock me know and say that Spotrac still has us at $30 Mil, but when you add it all up, and dot the I's and cross the Tees   the well is nearly dry.

Great job keeping this up Shady.

I figured the rookie true cap out with the offsets.

Here are the numbers.

PLAYER (9)
CAP HIT OFFSET TOTAL
Round 1, Pick #12 2,718,200 500,000 2,218,200
Round 1, Pick #22 2,121,730 500,000 1,621,730
Round 2, Pick #53 928,791 500,000 428,791
Round 2, Pick #56 866,658 500,000 366,658
Round 3, Pick #65 747,340 500,000 247,340

Yeah but they bump out two players from top 51. That makes the first rounders more like 3.5 mill right?  Later rounds are not expensive at all. Over the cap has you 10 mil number but that just adds the cost of all the picks. I don’t think it considers the top 51. Is @BarleyNY around to give his thoughts on the cap cost of the draft?  I remember him having good insight last year.

@YattaOkasan  Thank you.  Yes, the Rule of 51 applies until final cut down day.  Also correct that the draft pick number by OTC does not consider that rule.  See, you don’t need me.  ?

The one cap number that really sticks out is the dead money:  $36M.  That’s brutal.  This is a season to dump the older players and usher in the new generation, starting with a drafted QB who will (hopefully) be the future of the franchise.

How can Wood still count against the cap if he is permanently injured and can not play?  What is wrong here?

I have been asking the same thing.

All I’ve heard is that the Bills have to eat the whole contract.  It seems wired to me too.

How much does the Richie move save on the cap?

He was one guy I never tried to restructure.

The site doesn’t let me run the “Play GM” tool on a mobile (or I haven’t figured out how to do it).

I’ll have to run it in the AM.

Or look to see if the # was reported.

The Bills clearly structured Star Lotulelei's deal to take advantage of their more advantageous salary-cap situation in 2019. His salary-cap number is a manageable $6.7 million in 2018 before ballooning to $11.5 million in 2019. He then counts $10.1 million in 2020, $10.85 million in 2021 and $10.85 million in 2022.

Good job Beane.

Mike Rodak ESPN Staff Writer

Star Lotulelei's five-year deal with Buffalo is worth $50 million with $25 million guaranteed. He gets a $13M signing bonus. He gets base salaries of $3.5M (fully guaranteed) in 2018, $7.15M (all guaranteed for injury, $2M fully guaranteed at signing, another $5.15M guaranteed if on roster fifth day of 2019) in 2019, $6.25 million ($1.35M guaranteed for injury only) in 2020, $6.5 million in 2021 and $6.5 million in 2022. He gets roster bonuses of $1M in 2019, 2021 and 2022 and $500,000 in 2020 — all due fifth day of league year. He also gets 46-man roster bonuses of $31,250 per game from 2018 through 2022. There are workout bonuses of $100,000 in 2018 and $250,000 from 2019-22.

This is the way I understand the Wood debacle.

There is a pretty good explanation here.

https://deadspin.com/report-eric-woods-retirement-delayed-due-to-bonus-mone-1822526483

Here is Wood's Contract.  Being Injured and Retiring is a very rare thing with all of Wood's conditions.

Forget about the yellow highlighted 2018 Dead Money (that's all changed with Injury/Retire)

Wood Cap Hit for 2018 -  Orange Highlighted $8,875,000

Currently Bills on the hook for is in Green Highlighted - $10,641,668 in Dead Money.

Bill's are trying to get some of the Signing Bonus money back in a settlement.

It's a grey area in the CBA.

Also, Bills will want to know if any of the Dead Money can be pushed out to 2019.

There was some people talking about the $3,925,000 2019 Base Salary too, but it seems to be Bull.

FWIW

Year Base Salary Signing Roster Workout Restructure Cap Hit Dead Cap
2018 $5,050,000 $2,166,666 $250,000 $150,000 $1,258,334 $8,875,000 $5,591,668
2019 $3,925,000 $2,166,668 $1,450,000 $150,000 - $7,691,668 $2,166,668

Contract Notes:
$9.4M guaranteed at signing (signing bonus + 2017 salary + 2017 roster bonus)
2017 Roster Bonus: $1.75M (paid 9/1/17)
Previous 2017 Roster Bonus: $250,000 (paid)
2018 salary fully guarantees on 3/18/2018 (guaranteed for injury)
2018 Per Game Active Bonus: $15,625 ($250,000)
2019 Per Game Active Bonus: $15,625 ($250,000)
2019 Roster Bonus: $1.2M
Annual Workout Bonus: $150,000

  Total $10,641,668

At this point that would be best in this situation.

IF we can assume a "restructure" type offset  until 2019  it could save  $2,067,500

Now I can see why I didn't include Richie....  there isn't a way to restructure him on the tool.

If they are paying Owa 7 million, someone needs to be fired.

Well according to Beane in his PC this morning, they have enough for the rookies and an injury cushion and not much else............

Based on that .... my calculations are not that far off.

Owamagbe Odighizuwa is on a 1 year deal
