BrooklynBills Posted January 16, 2018 Share Posted January 16, 2018 Hoping this can be a catch-all Offseason Targets Thread for both the draft and FA with info on the players(ALL POSITIONS) and some insight into why we would be targeting them and not just a wishlist thread of who we want(although that's fine too). Just something to spark some convo about the players and especially to get insight from posters who have seen them play alot. I'll start with a draft prospect(not a QB) and two potential LA Rams cap casualties Draft: TEXAS LB Malik Jefferson He is the athletic, physical type of LB that I think McD really wants for this defense. He is the kind of LB who you could potentially leave on the field in nickel situations allowing McD to stay in the 4-3 when the opposition has 3 WRs on the field, something that he did alot in CAR with Shaq Thompson and Thomas Davis. He will go in the latter half of the 1st round. Three year starter. FA: LA Rams DE Robert Quinn Quinn had somewhat of down year this year and is not a true fit for Wade Phillips D (despite his ability to adapt to his players, Wade likes the one gap 34 as his base). Big cap number and has been banged up the last couple of years. Rams save almost $11 million by cutting him. Rams need new contracts for Donald, Gurley, Watkins($16 mil if franchised like has been rumored), and Trumaine Johnson and I could see Quinn becoming available. He would be perfect fit for our D and would have a relationship already with Mike Waufle, our current DL coach. I worked the numbers in over the cap. if we lower cousins cap hit next year and then raise it in the coming years we can get it done. 50 mil signing bonus 1 mil first year base. 11 mil per for star and 15.5 per for johnson. we then have a ton of picks to load the team. we can even shed richie if need be or lorax. Also agree on Jefferson if we could land Quinn, Jefferson and a solid free agent DT all the other resources could go towards turning around this lousy offense! I will take the gamble, and obviously load up on young/cheap corners in FA and the draft to supplement and fill in when he is NOT healthy. I would prefer not to spend the cap space on corners when there are other options there AND we have a lot of other expensive holes to fill on this roster I could imagine the defense being pretty loaded if we retained gaines, added some young/cheap corners, got a DT and a true MLB in the first round...now we just have to imagine some mystery QB falling into our lap somehow ala Tom Brady Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

I’d settle for one. I don’t think they’re gonna pay a FA CB top dollar but Johnson can play. Signing Cousins and using all of our picks to stack the front 7 and DL sounds like the best plan at the moment. I just don’t think there’s any chance of that happening. Alex smith more likely. BuffaloBillsGospel Posted January 17, 2018 Share Posted January 17, 2018 I'm not sure what the market would be for DT Star Lotulelei, he's a run stuffer accept this season he only had 25 tackles, 1.5 sacks, has never had more than 4 sacks in a season or since his rookie season in 2013 where he had 42 tackles, he's never had more than 26 tackles in a single season after his rookie year, not even sure if this guy is good against the run, the stats don't indicate he's much better than anything we have now other than he played for a top team in the Panthers, I would rather draft a DT than pay Star any type of big money. I think we'll dump Tyrod and pick up a veteran like Bradford, he has durability concerns but when healthy he's actually a decent QB, I haven't heard anything about him not helping out rookies or anything like that, I think he'd be a good vet in front of a rookie imo. Also like Beane explained he doesn't make big splashes in FA, I'm pretty sure we will be drafting our roster and picking up bargains in FA the way I'd prefer to build the roster again imo.
