CNN losing credibility as each day passes... Its pure propaganda at this point

Now you're speaking my language.

We are told, every day, that those on the left or right have VASTLY different priorities. In terms of the right and left in office, they (for the most part) are just different wings on the same bird. In terms of individuals, if you lay out point by point the items people care the most about, I believe those lists would be very similar.

More similar than one would expect if they based their opinion on what we're told day in and day out by the media and other messengers.

The division in this country is (largely) manufactured by external sources.

Well said.

I can’t find the quote now, but I think it was Camus who said something to the effect that politics is essentially the task of making moral issues which are really quite simple seem extremely complicated in order to divide people and make them feel confused and scared, to the advantage of those politicians who make lucrative careers out of professionally politicizing everything.  (please forgive the clumsy paraphrasing)

I mean, it’s not exactly a controversial idea.  I think it’s well understood across the board.  But it’s beneficial to say it out loud as often as possible…  The vast majority of regular people of this world want reasonable things for themselves and their families.  The hotheads and ideologues have forever been sucking all the oxygen out of the room.  This phenomenon has always existed but has become significantly worse with the advent of the internet and social media and junk news for profit on a grand scale.

Absolutely. Agree completely.

To make that point clear - the digital ink I've spilled on the Trump/Russia stuff has nothing to do with left or right, or even Trump. It's VERY EASY to paint the posts as that because they are clearly going against the mainstream talking points, but the reality is I'm politically agnostic. I care about what most people care about - but I also care about protecting the way this country is supposed to function. Not because I'm a republican or democrat or independent, but because I believe despite its flaws this country and our form of government is one of the greatest achievements in human history. The freedom and empowerment the constitution grants people is something to protect, not something to use as a wedge on partisan issues.

We live in a different world now. One were we are being bombarded by multiple parties on social media and traditional media. Everyone is vying to distract us, divide us, keep us angry and fighting with one another rather than coming together on the things that unite us. The things that bond us. And then working together to fix what we can and move forward in a positive manner.

I still have hope though. I think people are waking up to these games in droves. I think people are starting to ask REALLY good and important questions that haven't been asked before (at least asked by as many before).

I'm with ya there too.

I would qualify as liberal on most social issues (especially among those around here).  However, I've been spending a lot of breath lately speaking with liberal minded people, trying to stick up for Freedom of Speech (that's the big one).  I agree with many people on this forum that a lot of liberals have been overreacting and making fools of themselves.

Some examples:

- Don't be the person who sees a fan dressed as bacon and starts tweeting that it's blatant anti-Semitism.  That's ridiculous.

- When a pitcher in baseball gets his third strikeout of the game and fans are holding up three K's, that doesn't mean that there is a racist conspiracy happening through network broadcasts of major league baseball--it's just three strikeouts.  That's ridiculous.

- If you are a student or faculty member at a university, if someone is scheduled to speak that you don't like (or even find repulsive), it's not your duty as a citizen to prevent that, at all costs, from happening.  Quite the opposite.

This is a perfect example of how most of us are actually in agreement on a lot of the fundamentals. Once we're aware of that fact, it makes getting along and having a real discussion a hell of a lot easier.

I was driving and heard Trump speak from the Cabinet room where he’s corralled the House and Senate reps from both sides for preliminary talks on immigration. A lot of the participants on both sides spoke about what they want to see come out of this. At the end Trump said something to the effect that “maybe we should go back to using earmarks”. He said that was a time when people from both sides of the aisle would form real friendship, and go out to dinner together. There was comity then and not this bitterness and hateful divide that is so appalling. Thought it was an interesting observation.

Only braindead leftist hack sheep watch CNN.

Their hosts are beyond horrific and their panelists are even worse.

CNN isn't called fake news every minute of every day for nothing, they earned that monacher.

What, in your opinion, is a good source of mainstream news?  Is there one?  (or is "good mainstream news" an oxymoron?)

Also, I enjoyed how you got creative with a word you had no idea how to spell. :P

I don't know which people in MSM are fair and balanced. It seems everyone is too far right or too far left and REAL news doesn't get reported any more.

REAL journalism has been dying for a long time and officially died once Trump decided to run for office.

Again, it's all too far right or too far left with REAL news be damned.

Maybe FOX is the closet thing to be down the middle................... MAYBE, but I see them as too far right. So, I really can't take them seriously either.

The funniest part of all this is reading people's posts.

Did you actually read his post?

Did you notice the last sentence?

Literally everyday 24/7 it's bash Trump

Just now CNN is saying that they have sources that say Trump said "all Haitian immigrants have AIDS"...

Lol they are literally making up stuff now.

U can tell they are in panic mode after the legislation repubs just passed

CNN is a biased crapshow just like Faux. Biased as all get out. But as an American what concerns me is the POTUS going after the media. The media is supposed to go after the POTUS, not the other way around. That’s the real scary thing.

the insanity of the lib-left over the mere fact Trump won an election has made them unable to try to start accepting real news about the economy or taxes or health care or nuclear conflict

i wish they'd suck it up and get over it and return to reality soon

They did the same thing to Bush and Faux did it to Obama.

I guess you either didn't read my whole post or just care to ignore it altogether by calling me a Trumpbot........ whatever the heck that is.

For the millionth time, I didn't vote for Trump or go to his rallies, but you wanna continue to paint someone as something they're not.

My point is, when there is a major news story that is breaking that has nothing to do with Trump or politics, FOX is usually the first one to report it. Clinton News Network and MSPMS continue their Trump-hating nonsense until someone wakes them up and tells them there is actual news going on.

But I should expect nothing less from a "person" like you.

Fox reports first? No. Actually, when there is bad news on Trump they are the last to report it and usually wait for the spin doctors to come up with crap to get people like you to buy.

You truly are an idiot.

I'll bet you are a member of ANTIFA.

Do you need a safe space sweetheart?

Do you need some meds for your TDS?

You fail, AGAIN, to read my post or just ignore them................ I said, NEWS that isn't political, but you refuse to ignore it.

I fully understand that FOX has right wing propagandists, with Hannity leading the charge. But you think I am some sorta right winger too when I call out right wingers the same way I do the leftist morons.

Many good posts here.  I guess one of my perspectives is when did the networks go from reporting the news to manufacturing the news?  Actually all in the interests of boosting ratings, therefore, revenue

Locally, WGRZ in the morning, the last couple minutes is some woman reporter Potts whose only function is to go on a fabricated Trump bitchfest for her entire spot.  It's like what is the point of her on here?

And now without Maria Genero  in the morning, well no point watching  LOL

They always have manufactured the news, to some degree.  Sometimes unintentionally through ignorance (e.g. the "quagmire" of the invasion of Iraq,) sometimes with intentional yellow journalism ("Remember the Maine!")

It sure seemed like everyone in the US trusted everything politicians told them all the live-long day, until it finally ruptured with LBJ over Vietnam.

Now it's selective enforcement of skepticism by the media, taking most everything at face value for the Dems and attacking everything the GOP does.

Go home, CNN, you’re DRUNK: CNN’s take on Martin Luther King is their dumbest take YET

Appears CNN finally figured out that Martin Luther King Jr. was actually a registered Republican so in their desperation to IGNORE that inconvenient tidbit they decided to make him a socialist hero.

What in the blue Hell are they talking about?

- He's an environmental hero

- He was a socialist before it was cool

- He never let a political disagreement turn nasty

Many Americans have turned MLK into a safe holiday mascot, but some say King still speaks in ways that go beyond civil rights http://cnn.it/2DyooSM

Socialism has never been and will never be COOL.

From CNN:

If you’re concerned about inequality, health care, climate change or even the nastiness of our political disagreements, then King has plenty to say to you. To see that version of King, though, we have to dust off the cliches and look at him anew

If you’re more familiar with your smartphone than your history, try this: Think of King not just as a civil rights hero, but also as an app — his legacy has to be updated to remain relevant.

Think of MLK as an app?
