Essentially the Bills want a three way tie with LA and TEN, ( strength of victory would go to Bills) or a two way tie with the Chiefs( head to head vs Chiefs). We will know more depending on the outcome of Chiefs/ Chargers on Saturday. Bills are out if TEN wins any two games or defeats JAX week 17/ AND BAL wins last two games. That's what it looks like right now.

Thanks. That makes our chances sound slim. Nothing really matters unless we handle our business regardless.

No you want Chargers to win that division.

Have tie breakers against KC and Oak not to metion better draft pick got from KC

Yes.  MUCH better draft pick if Chargers win division, then KC pick moves up from the mid 20's to the mid teens.  Huge difference that will likely impact our future team.

So Conference record First.

How we beat LA

then Strength of victory how we beat Ravens

Three or More Clubs

(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)

  1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
  2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in conference games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss

Missing the playoffs on a coin toss would offically be the Billsiest thing of all time.

The Bills can lose out in a three way, 9-7 tie with the Chiefs and Titans and get in in a three way 9-7 tie with the Chargers and Titans.   Which is counter-intuitive because we beat the Chiefs and lost to the Chargers.  My point is the Bills can get in with the Chargers or Chiefs winning the west but we really need the Titans to implode, that seems like the key.  A lot of the specific scenarios will be based on who wins in KC this weekend.

This is definitely the case. There are no scenarios that work without the Bills being 9-7. That's really a best case situation for the Bills as they could easily lose any of their remaining games and are almost certainly not beating the Patriots. The good thing is, the Bills have a way in regardless of who wins Saturday between KC and LAC. Depending on the winner of that game, the Bills will probably have just one realistic scenario to get in. TEN has a tough remaining schedule, as the 49ers are no longer a pushover with Garrapolo and the Rams /Jaguars are probably going to be trying to secure division titles. The Titans look to have a difficult path in front of them. Bills fans could be best off rooting for the Chiefs on Saturday. If the Chiefs beat the Chargers, a 3 way tie at 9-7 with BUF, TEN, and LAC goes to the Bills providing that the Titans lose to the Jags.

It's not this straightforward.  We have the tiebreakers on KC and Oak if it's just a two-way tie between us and one of them.  If there are 3 or more teams, the tiebreakers are different and head-to-head matters less.  I think it's actually better for the Bills if KC wins the West at this point because in a multi-team tie at 9-7, they would beat us out and the Chargers would not.

that may be true, but they are playing the best football in that div once

Anthony Lynn realized running the football to protect from turnovers was not working and after the 5th or 5th game he gave the reins back to Rivers.

You are right Freddy.

I'm trying to boil down the simplest Week 15 scenario.

Bills win Sunday and we are NOT eliminated.

Having the Titans lose to the 49ers on Sunday just about guarantees us a "meaningful" Week 17 game.

The 2 AFC Wildcard spots could have 2, 3 or even 4 teams tied and going to tie-breakers.

I recommend everyone enjoy their week and cheer for a Bills win.

IF we win we will know more next Monday!

Go Bills and Go Bill Fans!
