Usually it works out for them; as long as they don't lose twice in Nov they are gauranteed a playoff spot. Looks like it's Bama, OU, Clemson and Miami for now, thought Wisconsin should replace Clemson if they run the table. Also gets interesting if the Canes lose to Georgia. I’m never a fan of some BS team getting hot at the end and winning it all like some WC teams in the NFL, it cheapens the regular season. Or back to the original bowl format with traditional conference bowl commitments. For all the whining, there was a definitive national champ almost every year under the old system. That one year it would have been great to have a Washington/Miami game but otherwise it was always settled on the field from my recollection. Given the disparity of competition between the different conferences you'll see a lot of undefeated teams seeded #1 or 2 be dominated in the semifinals by a team from a better conference with a loss in the future. That gives you the best shot of pitting the two best teams in the league against each other for the championship while preserving the importance of the regular season.
