[closed]What happened to John Miller?

Why not build around more journeyman veteran players like Ducasse? It makes no sense. Our offense is starting to resemble what happened to our defense under Rex. Offense has been a top 10 offense the past 2 years and the number 1 rushing team by far. Players that were productive like Miller are now seen as problems in favor of other like Ducasse. We lost all play makers on the outside by trading or not resigning them. In return, we bring in Holmes, Klay, Philly Brown, and a 2nd round draft pick in Jones. We did get Matthews who I think is a sold #2 wr but he has been mostly injured since coming here. Tolbert is another nice veteran but I would much rather have a more explosive back like Gillislee or Jonathan Williams that could break some longer runs as was the case the previous 2 years.

It started in the preseason with a system (a bunch of short passes with 3 step drops) that did not fit the skill set of the QB (the most important position on any team). That was our first clue that the offensive staff is more interested in their system than coaching the talent they have. The emphasis on special teams is extreme and if that much emphasis is being put on ST then we need to start locating the ball and downing it before letting punts bounce into the end zone. The necessary special teams players need to actually look different and make a difference.

Miller is just an example of what has happened on the offensive side of the ball. This staff has taken an explosive offense that could put up points in bunches and made it a conservative offense that has trouble scoring more than a touchdown in a game. They have taken the number 1 rushing offense and managed to make us a middling rushing team. And favoring players like Ducasse over more productive younger players like Miller is a big reason why.

Anyone with a PFF subscription? If so, how do they have Miller rated this year so far? Is this a case of Miller regressing, or is this simply the new coaching staff not liking him/liking Ducasse more?

EDIT: PFF offers the following Miller grades -

2015: 38.7 (awful by their scale)

2016: 77.8 (described as a "solid dependable player" and one of PFF's top 10 most improved 2nd year players)

2017 first 4 games: 39.1 (back to awful, the 64th highest guard rating so far this year ... and remember, there's, umm, 64 starting guards in the NFL)

So maybe it isn't just "he's a Whaley guy." Maybe it is that we literally can't get any worse?
