Rushing Attack

Recommended Posts

Teams have been loading the box for 2+ seasons now. Why are some of you acting like this is new?

Our run blocking is putrid. I dont recall having so many runs for a loss as we've had so far. Our oline is getting beat at the point of attack. Our oline doesnt know what theyre doing. Thats coaching/scheme.

Lynn did a good job of covering it up for Tyrod and the running game, sadly it wasn't enough for a playoff run because teams know how to stop it now. It's not the scheme it's the QB trying to run it. It's time for a QB change to a QB that can run it, one that can see wide open WRs. Edited by xRUSHx

Last I checked we have no one to throw to and everyone we play just keys on taking away McCoy.

All we see are 8 man fronts keyed on stopping McCoy because we don't have a single pass catcher on the roster who can threaten a defense on a route more than 10 yards down field.

Umm, we saw 8 man boxes all the time the past 2 years, so this makes no sense

So 2 consecutive seasons of being #1 in the NFL in rushing was accomplished via a "cover up" operation. And teams, just now after +32 games, figured out how to stop it? Ugh huh.

No Roman was a master at the run scheme it worked great year one to bad it wasn't enough with a bad defense. Rex and Pegs wanted a throwing offense to compliment the running game so they had Roman make a scheme for Tyrod to throw more. It failed bad and he got fired. Lynn took over and had to simplify it for Tyrod to throw it while keeping Romans running game going. It worked for a while but the good teams figured out how to stop it all they had to do was put everything at stopping the run and make Tyrod be a QB. Baltimore made sure everyone knew what they did. Now the same system to stop Tyrod is what teams are using, stop the run and make him be a QB. Just my opinion on it. Edited by xRUSHx

Going back before Rex, with Marrone we were top 5 in rushing. We have been running the ball good for years

With Rex it was much more Power O and outside zone runs from the shotgun. The actual running scheme is actually pretty different than the last couple years.

With Rex teams had to respect the read option. They don't have to so far this year so It's all eyes on shady , besides the spy. Tyrod had 500+ yards and we were #1 rushing . He isn't on pace for that I assume and our run game is being bottled down.

as you recall, i was hoping last season that Rex would be fired and replaced by Roman, who then would obviously keep his offense but put the 4-3 back in place on defense. But Rex fired him first. That's called not having a real GM or real owner at that time to do the right thing. Timing is everything. Oh well.

Now the defense is fixed but the offense is screwed up. Whatever. Let's see what the coaching staff does over the bye to fix what is wrong. This is the one opportunity -- the bye week. Let's hope they put the time in to make the adjustments. No time for scheme changes during the week to week grind of the season. Now is the time. No vacation Dennison, get to work.
