In the offseason go wherever you want but during the season live for football and nothing else. Lots of guys bought into and they won a lot of games. My wife and are foodies, and the backlog of restaurants on our list is growing faster that our schedules can accommodate. I'm a transplant - I'm not originally from WNY (I moved here in '96) but I've seen the region on an upswing relative to culture, restaurants, etc. that wasn't prevalent even as little as 10 years ago. If you're still thinking about the area through the lens of 2002, I can get why this may be the sentiment. I'm certainly glad WNY is on the upswing. But when Richie says there's 'nothing to do here' I think he means it in a comparative - not literal - way. My family and I were last in Buffalo in 2014 and we used Yelp, TripAdvisor, the advice of family/friends, and my own knowledge of the area to create a itinerary. And we had a great time. But we didn't find as many good places to visit, or as many good restaurant choices, as we have in some other American cities. As a native Buffalonian, I love Buffalo. But if I had out-of-country friends asking what 5 or 10 American cities they should visit, I wouldn't put it on the list. From what I saw a couple years ago, the food scene, in particular, really lags what's happening in the bigger east and west coast cities. It's going to take a while for Buffalo to catch up. That's why it was somewhat surprising we brought him back in 2015 but after being out of the league for a year because of the bullying incident in Miami I guess he didn't have many options. He was referencing Buffalo as a preferred city to be an NFL player in his mind because it allows him to focus on his job. He said "there is nothing to do here" in jest, it was a joke. He went on to compare it to Miami and he didn't like playing there as he found it more difficult to focus. He lives in Arizona in the offseason, I believe. Probably true, and Incognito seems to have matured a lot since he was dumped by the Rams for also being a lockerroom cancer. We like what we have here and arent hung up with keeping up with the Joneses. I think its a very nice middle-of-the-road town. We cant all be Miami or LA. Cheektavegas Charlie Posted October 5, 2017 Share Posted October 5, 2017 If you recall from the published text messages between Richie and Jonathan Martin from the scandal a few years back, it seemed like most off-days, Richie, Martin, and some of the other lineman had a routine where they would always round up a few women and then go for dinner and then to a nightclub. Now I don't know if his idea of "something to do" has changed over the past few years, but if not, I don't think he's really saying that there's literally no nice restaurants/clubs in Buffalo, but just that there's quite a few less than in Miami. I've seen Ritchie at SN Casino in Niagara Falls a couple times. Sat and drank with him at The Chairmans Club. Let me just say this,he's a colorful man. That was during preseason,haven't seen him after. It's a fallacy that there's nothing to do here,but unlike bigger cities, you have to look for it. Ive been all over this country, the cuisine here is second to none. There is theater all over,you have to find it with exception to the obvious. There are areas where per square block we have the most drinking venues in the country. There are nightclubs all over,just not many NYC style clubs. You'll have people in every city who would be negative of it,but there's a reason why many former players and coaches live here. Not knocking it, BFLo is like one giant suburb and it is getting more and more homogeneous with mainstream America... Yet nicer, but you can't get lost in it. Here you can head to Greektown, Chinatown, find any world cuisine and get lost, nobody will recognize you if you are star ball player (to an extent). Again, not knocking my birthplace, but it isn't very cosmopolitan. Instead of saying "nothing to do" I think he means "not very cosmopolitan." Let's be real, a star is under a microscope in BFLo. Buffalo is a great place to live populated by wonderful people. But let's be real. San Fran metro area = 7 million Buffalo Niagara metro area = 1.2 million We do alright for our size. Two of the best cities in New England are Portland, ME and Burlington, VT. Both are in the 200-250K range for metro population and both have tons of fun things to do and places to eat.
