They were one of those bands that got annoying later because they got overplayed and over-poppy, but holy crap their earlier stuff was magic.  For me it was 'Life's Rich Pageant'.

Just like you, I have always loved music!  And I remember the first time hearing REM, and hearing Radio Free Europe- and I was blown away!  was heavy into Metal and Punk, and I never heard any song like that.  It’s an amazing song.

REM is an outstanding band.  And you are correct Murmur to Life’s Rich Pagent is prime REM.

I dig 45 records.  One my first purchases was Radio Free Europe.

Every album REM album I found some interesting songs.

this is a badass REM song from a newer album

Do you know about the rift between James Brown and Joe Tex?  That was Gangster *****.  Stealing ladies, bragging about in song, gunfire, shittalking.

Sly Stone’s crew and Larry Grahams peeps were at war, gangster style too

If you didn't mention it I was gonna, the origin of diss tracks.

Now Fleetwood Mac took that to the next level by having the target of the diss track singing backup while you're *****-talking them to the world... Stevie still swears this is all made up crap from Lindsey

Saw them maybe 6 months ago playing a benefit with/for the Oregon Symphony... because, apparently, excellence needs a benefit concert in this day and age...

IIRC, this was the closing song- it was all really sweet.

I mean, they were partnering with the symphony, and some of it worked really REALLY well, and other parts were never meant to mesh together so much- overall it was fantastic.

At the end, and literally no one left as the concert closed - Zia McCabe, the keyboardist for The Dandy's, took her moment to address everyone there- she was so humanly awe-struck that they had had the opportunity to play with these musicians, in this environment, and in front of her family- it was one of the sweetest things I've ever seen.

Sure, I'll be 'Godless' if that's what humanity in its best form looks like.

Just a couple Dandy Warhols tidbits- I saw them when they were a blossoming band- and they were truly a blast live, and after they'd hit it big with that Rolling Stones knock-off me and sone friends caught them at a now-shuttered place place called Ohm.  They'd just spent a full tour in Europe, and I'm assuming they had a grand ol' time- they were terrible live - and we left.

But they've always been worth cheering for, IMHO, and I later got to tour their sound-stage/recording-environmen- hangout.  I think they've done better than most in staying alive and real, if you will.

If you listen to Mark Knofler, Clapton, John Mayer, etc- you are listening to JJ Cale.  JJ is the Original Slow Hand.  Many future guitarists borrowed and stole from JJ.  I’m always impressed when someone knows JJ.  I have a funny story I will post later regarding this post

Thanks man. You have totally turned me on to his music

From a friend...

Cale has written a shitload of songs,ma y of which you'd know. As I recall, he was uneasy about performing live and did it rarely.
