Chinese President Xi Jinping tells troops to focus on 'preparing for war'

Hong Kong (CNN)Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on troops to "put all (their) minds and energy on preparing for war" in a visit to a military base in the southern province of Guangdong on Tuesday, according to state news agency Xinhua.

During an inspection of the People's Liberation Army Marine Corps in Chaozhou City, Xinhua said Xi told the soldiers to "maintain a state of high alert" and called on them to be "absolutely loyal, absolutely pure, and absolutely reliable."

But the military visit comes as tensions between China and the United States remain at their highest point in decades, with disagreements over Taiwan and the coronavirus pandemic creating sharp divisions between Washington and Beijing.

The White House notified US Congress Monday that it was planning to move ahead with the sale of three advanced weapon systems to Taiwan, according to a congressional aide, including the advanced High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS).

In a stern response from Beijing, Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian called on Washington to "immediately cancel any arms sales plans to Taiwan" and cut all "US-Taiwan military ties."

Interesting.  But don't really put too much weight to it as nations posture all the time.  And China always ratchets up the rhetoric when we consider (and actually do) arms sales to Taiwan.

Trump Admin Leads 32 Nations in U.N. Rebuke: No International ‘Right’ to Abortion

by Dr. Susan Berry

Original Article

The Trump administration led a 32-nation signing ceremony of a declaration that affirms there is no international right to abortion. The declaration serves as a rebuke to the pro-abortion rights U.N. and World Health Organization (W.H.O.). It states the nations join to promote women’s health as well as the “strength of the family and of a successful and flourishing society.” The governments also affirm “the essential priority of protecting the right to life.” The nations that signed onto the declaration, which represent 1.6 billion people, also “reaffirm ‘all are equal before the law,’” and that “human rights of women are an inalienable

A Chinese state newspaper has urged President-elect Joe Biden to listen to Henry Kissinger, who warned Monday that U.S.-China relations could "slide into a catastrophe comparable to World War I."

Hu Xijin, the editor-in-chief of Chinese Communist Party publication Global Times, wrote Tuesday that Beijing was "making physical and psychological preparations for a U.S.-initiated war."

The editorial was written the day after 97-year-old Kissinger spoke at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum, where he urged the incoming Biden administration to quickly work to find common ground with China's President Xi Jinping.

"The United States and China have never faced countries of a magnitude that is roughly equal with the other. This is the first experience, and we must avoid it turning into conflict," the veteran national security advisor told Bloomberg.

What common ground is there, our intertwined economies?

It is difficult to actually find common ground if the Chinese Communist government forces companies to give up ownership interests for the purpose of stealing intellectual property. This isn’t only a U.S. gripe, either. Many countries doing business with China have made similar complaints. It is also difficult to find common ground if Chinese technology is used to gather information to funnel to China to they can develop AI applications against their trading partners.

What common ground is there, international treaties?

It is difficult to actually find common ground if the Chinese Communist party breaks a treaty and lays claim to the South China Sea, upsetting all it’s neighbors in the region.  How about when China bullies Australia for that countries’ raw goods and food?  What about when China breaks sanctions by trading with NKorea and Iran?  Ask Hong Kong people whether China keeps its international word.  Ask India about the disputed land that China keeps pressing into.

What common ground is there, human rights?

Muslims in concentration camps. Tibetans forced off their land in the hundreds of thousands this year alone.  We complain here about bias in the media, but the Chinese Communists have complete control over the media and internet.  The only way in China to get news that isn’t filtered and approved is by owning a secret vpn.  Political dissidents are imprisoned and their organs harvested.

Maybe Henry Kissinger can make a list of common ground that we can start with, and hand it over to Joe.

...and yet a GOP-led muck-raking investigation found nada on Joe.

And unlike criminal activities linked to Trump Org that he and his whole clan can be tied to, Hunter's business does not have any ties or board positions his dad occupies.

I have read the 87 page Senate report and it does show that Hunter has done business with some shady people around the globe. Shame on Hunter.

Yet all that digging came up with was awkward and potential conflict of interests for Joe Biden in his government role, but he and his staff went to overt lengths to keep dealings separate.

This does mean that if his son is ever found guilty of a crime, Joe will have to recuse himself. I am not a particular fan of Hunter, but the Chinese links are particularly weak.

If anyone has a Asia Pac mutual fund you likely have ties to Chinese businesses, if you have ties to a Chinese business you have ties to their government as business is not separated from government in China. Hence the Huawei 5g backlash around the globe.

Since China is a global economic power, finding such a connection is not an amazing investigative conclusion regardless of how much money invested.
