When W. Bush left office I was happy.  Had enough of him.  He was a disappointment in many ways. However I have to admire how he has stayed very much quiet and humble since the end of his presidency and how he has not used the office to greatly enrich himself.  There is respect there.

Personally I'm surprised Obama has not been more "in our faces" since he left office.  In my opinion he's such an egomaniac and narcissists.

I think the reason he hasn't been more in our faces is because he's been setting up the platform on which to be in our faces far more than just speeches and a quick a visit to the set of 60 minutes. Between his Netflix deal and Obama.org, he realizes he can be in our face via his own media company AND make gzillions via a more fluid media effort.

He make me think of doing mushrooms in college; the longer you want for them to hit, the harder they hit you.

It does not appear that Trump will ever be able to dismantle ObamaCare, thanks to old man McCain.

Entitlements are damn near impossible to repeal.

I've never gotten the impression that Trump cares much about "dismantling" Obamacare. It strikes me an an issue similar to abortion, where it's the party line that he kinda has to acknowledge, and throw a few nods at, then continue on with the things he seems to really care about, like trade agreements, taxes, immigration, and draining the swamp.

I only mention that because for all the talk of erasing Obama's legacy, he's probably not gonna be able to touch that one.

I tend to agree that it's not a priority. If I had to bet, I'd bet 5k that Trump doesn't give a ***** about abortion either. Gotta play the game though.

That list of actual priorities seems about right.

Do you mention this to any of the pussyhatters you may know? It seems like a topic that fuels a lot of their hysteria, and it's heavily promoted by the media.

In fact, I made a $500 bet with my (female) housemate that Roe vs, Wade will not be overturned. It had been the first thing she shouted at me, when I asked what  terrible things she felt Trump had in store. My other roommate submitted that Trump was going declare Martial Law...this was all 2 years ago. I'm sure I'll never get my money, but at least they never bring up Trump to me...well worth it.

I spend enough time explaining to them how many Trump "scandals" were going to be the end. There's a new one every single day. What happened to fake Cohen election violation I heard about for days until they moved on to the next one?

The big thing now is that he mentioned prosecuting Clinton/Comey. He says a alot of things. Unless something is actually done, I don't give a damn. They are simply obsessed with the man. I try to focus on things that matter.

As far as Roe v. Wade, I think the balance of the court could actually benefit Dems politically. Scare the hell out of women that it's on the verge of being outlawed and they'll show up in droves the same way SOME R's voted for YEARS because of the SC. I mentioned before the midterms that Kavanaugh's confirmation would actually be a good thing politically. People aren't generally motivated to show up to polls to reward politicians. It's an interesting game this politics thing.

I'm sure you're aware that I'm a liberal(not in the classical sense) so that tends to shape my opinions. I do, however, try to see things objectively. There are times the people on my side of the aisle are so deranged by Trump that I find myself rooting for him. It's a weird dynamic.

Edit. I try to explain to them that they're all but assuring Trump's re-election by going down this damn Mueller rabbit hole. They are as immune to logic as those that think Trump walks on water. I cannot help there. The crazy thing is that I get the feeling they've completely abandoned the core economic policies of the left(pro labor, pro minimum wage increase, tax rates for the uber rich) All those things can be debated among reasonable people. When it comes to Trump, there is just no hope. You could almost surmise they love Trump. The opposite of love is apathy and they are obsessed with his every move. Kind of makes you wonder.

Roe vs. Wade isn't going to change because of any president or even a 5-4 conservative majority on the SC. There are too many conservatives like myself,f who while  not for abortion, feel that it is a personal moral decision for the people involved.

It's a losing issue, and there is way too much support for it on both sides.

Somehow, the Liberals I am surrounded by are still living in 1985, worried about far-right Christians. That Moral Majority style Christian populace has shrunk rapidly, they were mostly older people who have literally died off. Yet despite all kinds of "moral" loosing developments (sex and drugs, TV standards, porn) they are still terrified they will somehow be at the mercy of Bible Thumping Republicans.

The crazy moralists are ALL ON THE LEFT. It's the main reason I have moved away from the Left. Hypocritical Holes

Take PPP for example: it's generally  what some people would call the right side of the political spectrum with some progressives and idiots. The people that claim to be on the left but are tolerable are very few. They fit in (sort of) because they have some common sense and are pragmatic. That's the one thing that connects all of the classic liberals, libertarians, conservatives and reasonable moderates. We have common sense, we aren't going to tell you what to do and we sure as hell don't want you to tell us what to do.

The Tea Party (actually it was Tea Parties because there was no central direction) was labeled by the left as the religious right, which was just another one of their red herrings. The tea parties were all about fiscal responsibilities, individual liberties and a strong national defense. The charters for the various groups made a point of stating that they were secular. You'll find a new freedom here that the left will never know.

Most of the Dem House candidates who flipped a seat ran on those issues locally.  Add health care which the Republicans botched the last two years.  It helps not living in the Washington bubble and have an outsider perspective of what matter to voters and it's not focusing solely on Trump.  I found this graph interesting as far as advertising among House candidates.  They basically took the opposite approach of Hillary Clinton and it netted them what looks to be a pick up of 40 House seats (the most since Watergate).

Yep. I have NEVER voted Republican! I didn't even vote for Trump, because I live in CA, I knew it was already decided. I actually voted for Jill Stein...just for a lark really.

I initially was all in on Hillary!!! I came to PPP to chastise the Righties here as Sexists!!!!!! Then I came back to apologize, after I began to realize that the Democratic Party has been taken over by creeps. It actually still blows my mind that I'm now considered Right-Wing!

It all harkens back to Clock Boy. Once I started to see the lengths that the media, Obama, and really anyone with a Leftist outlook, would go to, to keep the charade afloat, in the face of all reasonable evidence, I had to question EVERYTHING.

Clockboy goes to MIT, Clockboy meets the President....

It's been all downhill since then. Once I saw how people dug in on social media, and how people went so far  that there was no coming back, I realized that I had to step away. No one wants to admit they were wrong...

"I'm sorry I called your whole family racist pigs, who I hope die a painful, cancerous death"....

"I didn't really mean it when I said your children were ugly, after you said you were going to vote for Trump"....

"We're still cool after I mentioned that I know for a fact that your husband hires black hookers, right? Cuz now I realize that Trump probably won't force Muslims into concentration camps like I said before".

When I was a kid, it was the Christian right telling people how to live. It's one of the main reasons I rejected republicanism.

At this point in time, it's clearly the left trying to legislate behavior. I'm not going to abandon my positions on economic issues, but it's becoming really difficult to relate to people who view the word "stupid" as offensive.
