Why is no one concerned about this...

Everyone is ecstatic that Jarius Byrd is back but why is everyone so willing to throw a big contact his way?

He has been diagnosed with the same hip problem that Percy Harvin has that has at least a 40% chance of requiring hip surgery. This after Byrd has already had problems with and lost playing time because of his hips. Maybe the Bills are doing the right thing in not throwing him a huge contract with a ton of guaranteed money.

"Harvin hadn't appeared on an injury report with a hip issue since Weeks 2 and 3 of the 2010 season. But every NFL team that examined Harvin at the 2009 scouting combine knew he had impingement and tightness in both hips as well as weak abductor muscles, two people with knowledge of those examinations told USA TODAY Sports. The people spoke on condition of anonymity since the results were not released.A study published in January — co-authored by Vikings team physician Christopher Larson, Tennessee Titans team physician Thomas Byrd and hip specialist Bryan Kelly — suggests there is at least a 40% chance a player with those risk factors will eventually require hip surgery or other treatment for degenerative conditions.Another player from the 2009 draft, Buffalo Bills safety Jairus Byrd, showed similar signs on X-rays at the combine and ended up missing the end of his rookie season to have surgery for a labral tear — the same type of injury Kelly is to fix for Harvin today in New York".

The guy has been healthy and a top performer for this team while being a classy professional.

Now people are going to start finding things wrong with him? Pay the man the money he deserves and not worry about the FS position for years.

In case anyone hasn't noticed, Byrd has openly stated he wants to be traded, this guy will play 16 more games in a Bills uniform, and that's it. There's no doubt he feels betrayed, and will sign elsewhere, so if I were the coaching staff, i'd make damn sure I had his replacement getting as many reps as possible this year.

It's a degenerative condition. This isn't me looking to find trivial things wrong with Byrd. This is a legitimate concern.

Have a link where Byrd openly stated he wants to be traded? I'll wait.

Also, just so you know, we can place the franchise tag on him again next season. So really, we can 2 more seasons out of Byrd.

Homey D. Clown, my good man, it's not really Byrd's decision. The team can tag him again next year, and the 20% jump in pay really isn't as prohibitive as some are making it out to be. He gets 6.9 mil this year, and 8.28 the following year if they tag him in 2014. It all averages out in the 7 mil range the Bills seemingly were offering. If the Byrd man gets that tag again next year, with Byrd being another year older and locked in to another 1 year tender, it would make more sense for him in the long run to take a little less and lock in the long term deal.

Bottom line is the Bills hold all the cards here, and it appears that they're not making unnecessary concessions a la Marv/Russ/Co. during the Nate Clements fiasco.

It's been on the bottom ticker on both ESPN and the NFL network since last night. I believe Ian Rapoport reported it first.

Yeah I would like to see the link also... I've been pretty up on my Bills news and don't remember of Byrd saying any such thing...

Ian Rapoport stating a rumor about Byrd possibly wanting to be traded automatically equals Byrd openly stating he wants to be traded? Yeah...no.

He already had the surgery.

Keep waiting, and I already knew. Just so you know, it's on NFL network, and other social media, so poke around. Don't like my message? fine, but the reality here is that Byrd is very unhappy with the team right now, and it's going to take a complete effort on the side of the Bills to change that. His agent is collossal A-hole eugene Parker, who has a history of managing players who hold out. Think it's a coincidence? Well next up is Alex Carrington, and now that he's playing well, my money is on him holding out come contract time, and yes his agent is also Parker.

I'm not suggesting the Bills cave to Parkers demands, but at some point the price exceeds the value based upon a team management mentality, and since this is a high player churn league, it's probably best to groom the next guy.

I am quoting from what was reported yesterday on NFL network.

Like Werder and Rappaport, you're speculating.

Your quote was that Byrd "has openly stated he wants to be traded."

He has not said anything publicly so for you to post something like this is irresponsible and also, wrong.

He already had the surgery.

I'm not a doctor - I just dress like one. There are doctors on the board, and they'll weigh in. But "degenerative" is fairly defined term. It means that a single surgical procedure does not guarantee a final successful outcome. In fact, it means that multiple surgical procedures do not guarantee a successul long term outcome. It means that there's an underlying condition that will fight against the progress made by the surgery. How fast that battle is won by the degenerative condition depends on the severity of the condition, the patient, and a host of other factors. But in a lot of cases, a surgical procedure doesn't STOP a degenerative condition. It delays the inevitable.

Byrd's PROBABLY going to be okay in the short term, and in the NFL, a career is "short term". But, yeah, I could see some GM having a discussion with his team's medical staff and coming away a little gun-shy.

I am mis-quoting from what was reported yesterday on NFL network.

Fixed!

"NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reported Wednesday that "ill will remains" between Byrd and the Buffalo Bills. The two-time Pro Bowl free safety isn't demanding a trade but is believed to be open to one, according to a person informed of Byrd's thinking."

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000232635/article/jairus-byrd-open-to-being-traded-by-buffalo-bills

He may well end up traded if the Bills get a good offer, but Byrd has most definitely NOT "openly stated he wants to be traded".
