The thing I want to avoid is trading next year’s early picks. They are set up well to get competitive again next year - don’t give those picks away.
I'm not expecting a down year of any kind. The offseason talk right now is the same exact offseason talk we heard last year. "Two teams in our own division had passed us, this, that, blah, blah, blah," all by the sports network bobbleheads. We're getting Milano back, and one would hope we can have some better fortune on the injury front this year. Also, the young guys like Torrence, Bernard, Williams, and even Spencer Brown should all be better. One would hope Epenesa's numbers increase with more playing time.
I also don't see us as being "paper thin" on defense either. We are transitioning a bit in our DB group, going younger at Safety and cutting Tre. We re-signed Rapp and brought in Mike Edwards at Safety. We let Dodson walk. We added some different, but no worse by any means, depth at DT. We let Floyd walk after a single season, but he faded big time down the stretch after the 2nd Jets game in mid-November. We probably need to add a DE between the 1st and 4th. I know there are guys that I like which fall into that range. I'm sure they have their board set up as well. We probably need to add another depth Safety and another depth CB (maybe 2), both positions which McD and Beane seem to have an eye for. Maybe another depth LB or two depending on what they want the roster to look like. We have 10 picks. If we draft 1 DE, 1 Safety, 2 CB, and 1 LB that's 5/10. Get 2 WR's and that's 7/10. The other 3/10 just a mix and match of whatever.

Just depends on how the board falls. If people start jumping for QB's and people address needs other than taking a WR, then we might be able to sneak a guy between 9-12. I'd trade #28, #60, and next year's 1st for one of MHJ, Nabers, or Odunze. You're also taking a chance staying put and hoping the guy you draft works out. But if we don't, I'm good with Legette @ #28 and going after one of the other guys aforementioned.

But even so, the Bills WR corps is lacking a few skillsets right now.
Samuel is a guy who can play flanker, slot, and give you some gadget and jet sweep stuff or line up in the backfield. Shakir is a guy who has some degree of inside/outside versatility, but is better in the slot. Both offer good RAC.
The Bills lack a legitimate, viable X receiver (I refuse to count on much offensively from Mack Hollins). They lack size. They lack a red zone threat. They lack someone who is gonna put a bit of fear into the hearts of defenses. They lack a guy that needs to be gameplanned for or who will ever draw extra attention from defenses.
I like Shakir and Samuel (and Kincaid and Knox and Cook), but the Bills need more. They need at least two more legit dudes out there.I agree. I'd be good with jumping up for one of the "big 3" in MHJ, Nabers, or Odunze and letting it ride. Or I'd be good with taking Legette and then finding a way to get another guy like Tez Walker, or Malachi Corley, or Ja'Lynn Polk, or Javon Baker. Either way, they have an opportunity to at least take a shot at doing the right thing by Josh this year. One can only hope Beane has the cajones to tell McDermott to go sit in the corner while he looks out for the Franchise QB.

But...if the Bills needed to add a receiver BEFORE Diggs and Davis left town, they DAMNED sure need to add TWO of them now!
I understand the arguments for improving the defense, but to me, nothing trumps surrounding our franchise QB with as much weaponry as possible in terms of importance. Let's end this "Bills don't give Allen enough help" narrative once and for all.I'm good with us grabbing a couple of WR's in the draft between the 1st and early 4th. Still, I think many people see us having added Samuel (who was almost as productive as Gabe was for us in the Commanders offense with Sam Howell as his QB) and think that is a help. They also think the other guys were taking away targets from Shakir, who proved to be a solid and sure-handed weapon down the stretch.

There is a possibility Daboll ends up on the outs in NY this year if they don't get the ship headed back in the right direction. I could see Josh putting in his 2 cents to get Daboll here if McDermott loses the team. But that is the only way McDermott gets fired, is if he COMPLETELY loses the team. Belichick is not being brought in here, not even solely as a HC.

Jerry Rice would be the GOAT today, just like he was previously. 4.71 40 time and all. He was unguardable. He would beat these guys just like a drum in the same way he did everyone in the 80's, 90's, and the early 2000's. He was still cooking DB's even at 40 years old.
Nacua's time of 4.57 was one of the factors that helped push him down draft boards. Then he goes on to log one of the fastest in game speeds of the season.
The Underwear Olympics aren't for everybody, nor does everyone who shines in them excel on the field.

I know the big knock is the 4.54 forty time...but that is faster than Keenan Allen, Larry Fitzgerald, Cooper Kupp, etc who all had over 4.6 to over 4.7 forty times. What people fail to realize about 40 times too often is that straight line speed in shorts and does not automatically translate to on field speed of play.
A guy slower in the 40 may play faster or be better at getting separation at the next level than someone who put up a faster time. It is not the end all be all measurement its made out to be.
Don't forget that Jerry Rice originally ran a 4.71 and then a 4.6 time. Puca Nacua last year only ran a 4.57 40, then had one of the fastest in game speeds tracked of all WR's.

You want to trade a PROVEN generational talent QB, an on track for the HOF QB, to draft a QB that you have no idea if he will pan out, another pick to draft a player that you will have no idea whether he will work out, and then a couple more high end picks in 2025?
You do realize that Josh Allen IS the Buffalo Bills right now, right? There is no price. You don't trade a generational talent QB in the prime of his career.

If it's Sutton or Metcalf, the obvious choice is Metcalf. If both are somehow available. Sutton has only cracked 1,000yds one time in his career and that was back in 2019. Sutton is kinda meh like Gabe was. We don't really need to repeat that cycle.

Kimani Vidal / RB / Troy - 5'8" and 218lbs. He put up some big numbers, has good agility, runs with real power for his size, and had a solid Combine to back it all up. He's a 6th Round guy imo.
Adding the Combine link as well. DJ called him a "mini Josh Jacobs" when they were talking about his 40 time.

If we're talking about Aiyuk? Yes.
If Seattle is looking to move DK? No. His cap hits are much more manageable over the next two years and a contract could be revisited after we fully escape cap hell in 2025.

I don't really worry about all of the measurements when it comes to people making plays. If a guy can shake his defender, and Josh can throw an accurate ball, then the length of a ring finger added to an arm isn't that much of a difference. I think people get too caught up on the measurement of every arm, toe, and eyelash. I don't think that small of a talking point is truly relevant if the guy is a twitchy, solid route runner with excellent hands. I do think our WR situation pushes Shakir to the outside more often than previously seen, but I think this year will be more of a committee than in years before as well.
I understand Davis and Samuel are different people, with different responsibilities. I just think that Brady will be able to utilize Samuel better than anyone else has and that Josh will be the best QB he's ever had slinging him the rock. I think that Samuel will see career highs in this offense if he stays healthy.
I'm still all for drafting two WR's. Legette and Corley. Legette and Walker. Legette and Rice. Legette and McCaffrey. Mitchell and Corley. Mitchell and Walker. Mitchell and Rice. Mitchell and McCaffrey. Franklin and another guy. Worthy and whoever. We just need to make sure JA17 has some quality options at WR outside of the ones we have now.
