Year 3 of any NFL players career is when GM's expect the light switch to turn on and see what kind of Pro they can become.  We saw it in the best possible way with Josh Allen and have some pretty big position players this year as well.  In my opinion, these players are all fighting for their new contracts this year or could see their replacements drafted soon.  With that, what would you need to see from the following players to justify their 5th year option (Oliver only) or a contract extension next off-season.

Ed Oliver (5th year option) - I need to see him deliver on sacks. I'm tired of the pressure ratings and everything else.  If Star and Phillips are both healthy and doing theirs jobs, AND the edge rushers demand attention, Oliver needs to be a difference maker.  I want to see at least 6 sacks and many more pressures.  I want to hear about him commanding double teams.  For a #9 overall pick and the money he would get in that 5th year, I need to see more.  I personally don't think it will happen and his 5th year won't get picked up

Cody Ford - Ford has to take firm ownership of the LG position and stay healthy this year if he wants to get paid.  With how they've drafted and how they played without him, I think he has an uphill battle, but I do believe he can be re-signed fairly cheap, so I could see him staying on with us

Devin Singletary - I think Singletary puts up about 500 yards, but in splitting carries with Moss and Breida, I don't think he'll be able to take command of the group.  Singletary will play out his 4 years and most likely be gone, or stay on a cheap deal.

Dawson Knox - Besides Oliver, Knox is the second most watched player for me this offseason.  All he has to do is show reliable hands on the easy catches and I think he'll earn an extension.  In this offense however, I don't see him commanding enough balls to get the stats that would get him highly paid, nor have other teams fight us for him.  I believe his strong relationship with Josh will help him (unlike it did Smoke), and he does enough to get a new deal.

    Thoughts?

Knox is a tough guy who is pretty fast as well. But I dont think a person can learn how to catch a football at 25 yrs old He is what he is.

I see Singletary improving. His problem is lack of breakaway speed plus he goes down too easily. At his height and being over 200 LBs he should be blasting for extra yards more often after the hit. This is one of the few areas that RBs can improve on with age.

Cody Ford is a guy with the potential to be an elite OL. Expect great improvement/consistency this yr.

Ed Oliver...Thats a tough one. I would like to see the coaches put him in a position that isnt pure nose tackle more often. Unless he gains 20 LBs(and would that slow him down?) he just doesnt have the size to be a NT in  this league.

an excellent post worth your time to read IMO #CZECH54

First off, I will say that I am fully vaxxed and totally pro-vax.

At this point, anyone who wants to get the vaccine has had a fair opportunity. Heck, I have a 12 year old daughter, and she has gotten both shots and waited the 2 weeks as of today.

Honestly, if you don't want to get vaxxed and you get sick or die, I don't care. That was your choice and you are free to make that choice.

There really shouldn't be any more restrictions, because everyone that wants to be protected from Covid has had their chance. Life can resume now. If we lose a few thousand more people, oh well. Just as you are free to not get vaccinated, I should be free to live my life however I want to without restrictions.

I don't care if the virus spreads further amongst those that don't want to get vaccinated. I just don't care.

What I do care about is the Bills winning a ***** Super Bowl. And the best way to do that is with a full squad every week, and not missing games because some player test positive. So I would hope that the players recognize that getting the vaccine is actually the smartest thing for them, their health, and their career, but I also know that these guys aren't on the team because they did well in chemistry.

do you care about auto-immune disease? Thats what the animal testing is supposed to check out. The animal testing which was not done.

This is where risk/benefit calculations come in.  Required vaccinations for schools make sense given the threat of the problems they're meant to deal with.

Last I saw most school systems don't require children or teenagers to get the flu shot do they? This is in spite of flu outbreaks often emerging from schools.

He's a crybaby who should just man-up and get vaccinated. I've been vaccinated (2 shots) it's NO big deal. If he doesn't want to abide by the NFL rules then he should retire NOW so we have time to find a replacement for an idiot WR!

Oh its a big deal GLP.What do you know about the vaccines?? about skipping the animal testing?? about being unapproved by the FDA ? About the rising number of deaths from the 'vaccines'?..No big deal??..God help us. Please do some research.

Time to break out the 2021 Cam Newton Excuse Thread

hehe--yep its gotta be something..may as well be that nagging hand injury instead of his profound mental laziness that has turned a guy with great talent into a mediocre QB.

The guy with the 7' wingspan hasn't forced a fumble in 42 games.

    He's never recovered a fumble.

    Just 3 career interceptions.

    Only 5.5 career sacks.

You don't win NFL DPOY without making plays............as stated on OBL today,  getting 100 tackles is nice but SOMEBODY gets a tackle on every non-scoring play.

I agree that he has DPOY talent..........if he had been utilized like a TJ Watt I think he'd have been a big time playmaker..........but the position that he plays requires A LOT of instinctive play to stand out.........but with 6 seasons under his belt as a college and pro LB he hasn't shown those instincts.

i think you proved he doesnt have the talent.Other than that good take.

To me, that is just a miss.

The Losman fumble and McKelvin fumble were just pure stupidity....it shouldn't have happened.

McKelvin did it several times......a world class speedster and great open field runner...But the decisions he made on the field were nightmarish.

We all make stupid statements in the heat of the moment. In years past, I was the mayor of stupid statements on TBD. But what opinion did you have that was your worst?

My post, so I’ll start. And mine is recent and I got the appropriate amount of judgement for it:

I wanted to cut Bass after week one.

    the choices are voluminous

it is amazing to think we had one of the all-time greats who started out rather rough .. but as the article states “In the 13 seasons from 1986 to 1998, Smith hit the double-digit sack mark a total of 12 times and the only reason he didn't make it a perfect 13 is because he missed 11 games in 1991 due to a knee injury. ” the season he was suspended he got 12 sacks in 12 games. Favorite Bruce story not mentioned in the article was a comment from an opposing quarterback who was lamenting how he hated playing Bruce as Bruce would eat raw  Garlic before the game and if he sacked the qb he would lay on him and breath into the quarterbacks face mask .. that will make someone nervous :)

Bruce was damn good his rookie year.I think the weight issue that he had distracted people from his performance.yes he improved when he lost weight but you could still see that he had enormous potential.
