My assumption is that Brian Thomas Jr. and Adonai Mitchell comprise a second tier of receivers after Harrison, Odunze and Nabers.  The concern over Adonai Mitchell allegedly having Type 1 diabetes puts a bit of a question mark on that ranking.  Who knows how teams will treat that.  Anyway, McConkey, Worthy, Legette and possibly Franklin and Coleman comprise a third tier.  It's possible Beane values Legette high enough to take him at 28.  He is very cognizant of value regardless of draft position though.  He might reach a little bit for a player he really likes at a position of need, but I don't think he'll reach too far.

I have Legette above both Mitchell and Thomas, who are simply part of tier 2.

    Great summary, Thanks for this.

I will say, I think Beane was trying a little too hard to persuade everyone that he thinks the WR room is just fine and we'll be casually looking to add another piece or two at some point in the future, not anxiously perusing the draft board for guys who have "WR" listed for position as our draft picks approach.

But I agree with you that all signs point to "disinclined to make a big splash to move up to the top-10"

I thought it was interesting that Beane mentioned "guys who are already on the roster" contributing at WR and made an analogy to Terrell Bernard who had to "prove it" that he could step up.  Khalil, after the end of the season, I think has left no doubt he can play in the league although as a #1 or #2 is a good question.

Does anyone think he might have been referring to Justin Shorter, last year's 5th round pick?

Shorter was on IR last year and hasn't given anyone reason to believe he can be a contributor, he was talking about Shakir.

As far as "trying too hard", I dunno what else people would expect him to say about the WR room "we're screwed, I traded for a narcissist who whined his way off the team and now we are desperate to land a player in the draft. We will pay a premium for him. Oh please, please fleece us because we're desperate."

Outside of the top 3 WRs in this draft you have Javon Baker and Legette that are true X receivers who look like they could develop into all-around players - you are likely looking at rd 2 for Legette and 3 for Baker, then you have a bunch of solid guys like Worthy, McConkey and Mitchell and a bunch of others who can play specific roles. We will pick up 1-2 of these guys and develop them. Dline may be the bigger target in the 1st because the talent is thin and drops off a cliff after the top 3-4 players.

As I said above, I could envision a trade with Chicago because the Bears have only four picks in this draft and would likely be tempted by pick 60...that's really the only deal I could see with the Bills getting into the top 10...the problem is that I think other teams will also be targeting the Bears for a trade up...

What would we give then THIS YEAR that would prompt them to make that trade? Our 1st and 2nd followed by next year's 1st and 2nd? So we pick one guy and then don't pick again til the 4th rd in this draft?

    My own speculation:

    13.  R. Odunze / Brian Thomas Jr - There is a VERY big difference between these two players. The fact that you would trade up to 13 for Thomas makes me question anything you post on the draft

    33.  Xavier Legette / Troy Franklin - See above. Legette should be gone by this time and you're overdrafting Franklin, these two are not interchangeable.

I like Legette too, but I've done dozens of mock drafts and he's always available at 35-40.

Just looking at the teams behind us I could see the next 10 picks take him, especially the Ravens, so I'm going to advise you that mock draft sites are pretty much just video games only they don't have the benefit of actual information to base their metrics on. I don't see Legette touching the 2nd rd.

Cook is a good pass-catching back but he had 445 receiving yards in 2023.

I will give you 2 to 1 odds up to $100 on your end (I'll pay $200) that if we draft a rookie and that rookie plays at least 14 games (meaning, not injured more than 3 games) that the rookie passes Cook.

Our drafted WR will likely get 600 to 800 yards. If you think I'm high, let's have a bet. I'll do $10, whatever you like up to $100 on your end.

Nah, I'm not a betting man and I don't care too much either way. I think it'll be close. The main takeaway from my post was to say that I didn't think a rookie is going to come in and be our #1, not the way we play rookies. Could a Rookie end up with more yards than Cook? Sure. Will they end up with more targets? That depends on the rookie.

The Titans traded for Calvin Ridley which doesn’t bode well for Burks. Having DeAndre Hopkins, Ridley and the #7 pick overall in this year’s draft puts them in the right position to select one of the top 3 WRs.

I believe that Beane is going to move up in the draft for either Brian Thomas Jr or Adonai Mitchell but adding another WR is still a real possibility. Being a former 1st rd pick that hasn’t stayed healthy makes Burks expendable. If Beane could get him cheap that would be a low risk high ceiling WR prospect for the Bills imo.

I'd rather stay put and draft Legette

why is everyone acting like we're taking an additional 31 million?  It's an additional 3-4 million hit.  That's it.

You're right. Just sucks to be eating 31M in cap for someone not even contributing to the team. But if he was starting to be more of a problem than an asset you have to get rid of him.

A lot of people that were trashing Diggs as a non-impact player in the back half of last year are coming out now and upset that we traded our star talent.

I loved Diggs, but I understand why he was moved.  Any disruption/age/injury/cap implications are valid

No one cares about this from a football perspective other than it creating a hole at a position. Eating 31M in cap space for a return of a pick NEXT year is the issue.

Top 40 pick (most likely)for an aging WR is good value

Not in NEXT years draft. 2nd rd pick in the next year is always devalued by 1 rd when considering compensation. It also doesn't help us draft his replacement at all.

  11. I love Beane. That said, I don't hace confidence that there will be difference making WRs near pick 28 and I don't see us hitting on an early rd DE because frankly I don't have confidence in this FO's ability to identify and draft DLmen. A rotational DT plays 40-50% of the snaps and is involved in every single play they are on the field for. A backup WR, which is what I believe will be left around 28, can run dozens of routes and will realistically affect 4-6 plays with catches and maybe a couple more if they can block well. Unless we get a gift dropped in our lap I don't really see how a top 5-10 WR is better for our team than a rotational piece with upside. We are going to put Shakir, Samuel and Diggs out there half the plays and drop Shakir to put in another TE in 12 personnel. There are realistically 4 WRs that could come in and convince this staff to sit Shakir or Samuel and we're not sniffing them barring a miracle.
