The toughest part of projecting the Bills first round is knowing which 25 players will be picked before the Bills are on the clock.  Barring a trade, the Bills will select from among these players, in this order, depending on who remains on the  board:

    1. Dalton Kindcaid TE (despite no top 30 visit.  No visit was needed. If Kincaid is on the board, very likely he is easily the BPA.  Bill top 30 visits or private workouts with three other TE's.  This is a position of interest to the Bills.

You nailed it .. well done. I looked at so many mocks .. and you were the only person that I saw that projected Kincaid!

  2. The lions signed David Montgomery in free agency and just inexplicably drafted  a back at number 9. Deandre Averaged 5.5 yds per carry this year and has a very low cap number for his final year of his rookie contract. Would like this more than getting DHoP as he would be a nice safety net if Cook cannot be the work horse.

  3. 1. Name the first 5 players draft in order (Feel free to name the teams as well for bonus points) Levis(CAR), Anderson Jr (HOU), Stroud (Tenn), Young (IND), Richardson (SEA)

    2. How many trades will be in the first round? 4 not counting those that already occurred

    3. Will the Bills trade up, back, or stay put? Trade Down.

    4. Will DHop be traded today? (doesn't mean he is traded for a first round pick).  Bonus points to identify the team he is traded to Yes, to the Chiefs.

    5. Who will the Bills pick? Joe Tippman (C) second round via trade. Will use original 2nd rounder for Jack Campbell (LB)

    6. How many RB's will go in the first round? 2.

    7. How many QB's will go in the first round? 4.

    8. Will ESPN cut to commercial if/when the Bills make their selection? No.

    9. Who will be the biggest reach pick of the draft (Yes, I know this up for debate.  Gruden made it so easy with the Raiders) CJ Stroud.

    10. Which college will have the most players selected in the first round Georgia, Ohio State, and Alabama  tie with 3 each.

  4. I remember in 1989 you could only watch on ESPN. I had just graduated college and did not have cable. I called in to John Murphy's radio show on WBEN and suggested that they should cover the draft. He laughed at me. WGR had a Bison's baseball game they were going to cover but it got rained out so they switched over to covering the draft. It was very choppy coverage as they were basically watching ESPN and then making comments about the picks, but I loved it as I paged through my Mel Kiper draft guides. back then Mel would come on local stations and talk the draft and then if you wanted the guides you would call a number they provided after he was off the air and Mel would answer and take the order himself. Good times.

The cap for QBs needs to be set at 1 billion per season  to prevent future craziness

You monster .. how will they be able to support their families. It is always about supporting ones family and no human should be expected to do it for less than a mere $40 million per year.

  6. I was really high on Robert Nkimdiche  and Laquon Treadwell in 2016 and DK Metcalf when he came out and I wanted "the right" Josh Allen.  I have basically not worried about it since as I realized even after the success of Metcalf and Allen that I have no real clue. I just like the freaks who may or may not become superstars .. Tremaine and Groot fit the bill as well.

In looking at the drafts of other teams you will find similar hits and misses as the Bills and as "horrible" as the Bills have been they still have one of the top rosters in the NFL, so they are doing something right.

Seems like a consensu opinion that the 2023 draft class is weak.  One possibility is trading way down and adding some #1 picks in 2024, and recieving back some late picks in the 2023 draft.  In this case we add the lions 2024#1 and the vikings 2024 #1 to go with the Bills 2024 #1.   This will make the 2024 draft more fun to discuss. Some of the players draft below would have an actual chance to make the 53 in 2023.

If I were a GM and my team was really good .. I would always look to sell my late first round pick to a team that is likely to be bad the following year.  If you get a 3rd and 5th this year and first next year from the Cardinals, Saints, or the like .. that would set up for 2024 early pick and another chance to sell my late 2024 first round pick.

  8. So at this point we have lost two free agents Tremaine and Case.

we have resigned Poyer, Matakevich, Dodson, Jackson, Martin, Lewis

signed from other teams: Harty, Kyle Allen, McGovern

with the following remaining free agents: Klein, Quessenberry, Saffold, Singletary, Phillips, Lawson, Crowder, Beasley, Taiwan, Van Roten, kumerow, Hart, Murray, Marlowe, Sweeney, Jaquan Johnson

Of the guys from last years team I would like to see Phillips and Lawson back on cheap deals as that would reduce the need to draft another dlineman and allow us to focus on the oline in the draft. I am also a big fan of Singletary - he has a ton of heart and might be fine if we can fix the oline. I am not really surprised these guys have had no takers individually, but collectively we seem to have a bunch of players nobody else wants. Perhaps because we lock up the players that are important or perhaps because our depth is just meh or a mixture of both.

We’re getting pretty close to me not wanting to hear him referred to as BBB ever again.

We currently have 10M tied up in the following players… Matakevich, Neal, Harty and McKenzie.  Why?

I’m hoping another move is coming, but so far, it’s another year where we fill in perceived rotational/depth holes around the roster at the detriment of high end players.

Meanwhile, the Bengals let both their starting Safeties walk and sign Orlando Brown to an OL that they already went heavy on fixing last year.

Chiefs lose Orlando Brown and Andrew Wylie, but then sign Taylor on a line that already boasts the best IOL in the NFL.  And they just restructured Mahomes, so I’m sure they’re not done.

The veteran minimum is more than a million dollars. Matakevich barely makes more than minimum and Lil Dirty was a starter last year .. admittedly he did not step up .. but that was a pretty cheap contract for someone who is starting in the NFL. Neal I do not get. We will find out if Harty is worth it though there is hope for him as a returner and a stretch the field receiver.

Bringing back the same defense - with more tread on the tires, without Miller and Edmunds, and relying on vets to overcome injury - is concerning.

They still need a replacement MLB and another pass rusher opposite Rousseau. Perhaps there’s hope for an actual upgrade therein…

It is important to remember that the Bills were missing Daquan Jones, Von Miller, and Micah Hyde for the playoff game .. three of their best defensive players. Miller is trending toward being ready by training camp last I heard. I also think Groot and Basham will continue to develop along with Elam .. so not quite so static
