Who doesn't know Spotrac on this forum yet?   I can only blame us and our poor forum onboarding process.

I mean I know spotrac. But does it allow you to have a depth chart organized, make hypothetical moves and see the impact of those moves on the depth chart and cap?

I know it’ll let you see the cap impact on cutting/trading a player, but it doesn’t really let you build your depth chart as far as I’ve seen.

I use Capfriendly as it's the best Hockey site there is.  Hockey is so much more complicated than football with prospects, 2-way contracts, etc.

For football it's Spotrac for me.  It's much more user friendly than OverTheCap IMO.

I think hockey is less complicated when it comes to contracts honestly. Signing bonuses and structures in football are much more complicated than in the nhl where salary is guaranteed and your cap hit doesn’t change year to year and is just an average of the total money in the contract.

  2. I know people are giving him a hard time. On the other hand, the guy has seen the affects of the game 1st hand. His dad was a great player, had that freak eye injury from the refs flag. And then his father passed at 40.

As offensive linemen with limited playing careers and often times life spans bc of the rigors they put their bodies through… I understand the player wanting as much money as possible.

  3. I’m thinking they believe he’ll be back earlier than expected. I also think they’ll look for a guy, but it might not be until day 2 or day 3. They seem to really like Dane Jackson, and they have brought Cam Lewis along slowly (reminds me a bit of how they brought along Bates), and I think they have more faith in their ability to develop guys like Griffith and McCloud.

With as much cap as they have right now, I’d also expect a UFA to be brought in as well. Probably after the draft, especially if Bradberry is cut.

If they do draft a CB early I think it’ll be someone who has some CB/S versatility. Provide depth at corner but also someone who can replace one of Hyde or Poyer as well. Jalen Pitre could be one example.

    Haha, you nailed it.

There's a handful of Buffalo media/radio guys that I've come to realize are full of shiz. Nate Geary is one of them.

He’s becoming one of my most disliked Bills media person (Schopp tops him still just bc). But really besides Capaccio’s podcast, I haven’t listened to WGR in a year. So much better content out there.

  6. I think Oliver will see a jump this season. Hopefully closer to 65%-70% of snaps. As stated above, towards the end of the season that’s what he was getting towards the end of the season and playoffs.

Rousseau and Phillips (I think he’ll be brought back) should be getting 50%+ for sure, and for Rousseau I could see him getting closer to 65% just bc of how well he played against the run and can be trusted as a 3-down lineman.

I believe they’ll add a veteran defensive end to lead the end opposite Rousseau, with Epenesa and Basham filling in those spots. Could also see Basham getting some run as a sub for Oliver in certain situations as well.

Overall I think the theory makes sense. Keeps them fresh and let them have more energy.

But with a younger group now you do have to wonder about them wanting to be able to get a feel for how their opposition is blocking them, and just a general feel for each game (similar to when Singletary went from splitting carries with Moss, to becoming the lead back).

Epenesa needs to show signs of life though. He’s the main reason they need to address the position with a veteran. Besides that first Miami game he showed very few signs of taking a step. He’s still a young player (Rousseau is VERY young, and raw as well). But I believe if they want to take this defense to the next level they need an impact pass rusher. I hope that can be Rousseau, but I’m wondering if it’ll need to be a veteran from outside the organization.

  7. I think now is the best time to extend him. He’s proven capable of running the defense. He’s still young. And you can sign him to a longer deal with a lot of built in roster bonuses and things that allow you to move cap around (similar to Allen’s). Also if they add a big bodied DT I could see his game taking a leap next year.

I don’t think that’s correct.  He has $2.5M guaranteed salary and a $2.6M signing bonus this year.  If he’s cut post June 1, I think they still  pay that this season.  So the dead cap would be $5.1M.   They just get to count next year’s signing bonus…next year.

Yes you’re right, it just changed on Spotrac and over the cap the past week I believe.

  9. I worry that they’ll draft a corner early day 3. Besides Tre they’ve only drafted DB’s on day 3. Siran Neal, Taron Johnson, Jaquan Johnson, Dane Jackson, and Damar Hamlin were all day 3 picks.

I think they’ll sign a cheaper vet as insurance against Tre (Jason Verrett?) and let Jackson battle s rookie or two for playing time.

But ultimately I like the first two picks.

  10. I see them having money without crazy cuts. Extensions for guys like Diggs, Morse, Poyer, & Edmunds can save $15-$20M of cap space.

If they draft a star replacement, letting him retire post June 1st would save over $6.5M in cap space.

Then trade or cut Ford, Klein and Matakevich. Another $10M.

I’ve just created $30M-$35M in cap space without getting rid of any good players.

I just looked at the list of expiring contracts and there's more than $30 million in expiring contracts, but all reports say that we're up against the cap for next year is that because next year's contracts are being boosted by that much?  I know Allen is going up a bunch... Can anyone explain.  Thanks

    https://billswire.usatoday.com/lists/2022-free-agency-buffalo-bills-jerry-hughes-harrison-phillips/

It is very confusing, but I think I’ve found the major points.

    1) there’s two main sites to use. Spotrac, and Overthecap. If you look at their numbers Spotrac has us ~$1.3M over the cap. Overthecap has us about ~$4.3M over the cap. The difference seems to be in the fact that Overthecap has some money allocated towards our draft picks, Spotrac does not.

    2) they have us over the cap, but 14-16 of those players won’t be on the 53-man roster, and they’re bottom level players, with very little (under 50K) to no guaranteed money, who will either be cut or placed on the practice squad and won’t count toward the cap. Those players account for roughly $10.6M of cap space. So while we’re -$1.3M in cap space according to Spotrac, when their articles discuss our off-season, they talk about how we have roughly $9.5M in “effective cap space”.

  12. If he’s there. Give me Jordan Davis round 1.

If not I think they’ll draft an IOL or WR.

could also see them trading back if there’s no one they’re thrilled about when they pick.

their current roster will only get more expensive and this is a deep class as well.
