I was against it initially because I think we need a larger human who can break a tackle or two and punish teams who want to lay back in cover 2 or cover 3 on us.  But I’ve come around on the idea in the last couple of weeks.  I’d still like to see us come out of this with a bigger body at the position, but if the FO decides it’s Worthy, I won’t get on the internet and complain anonymously because they’ve earned the benefit of the doubt.

Xavier Worthy at 28 and Javon Baker on Day 2 would completely revamp our WR room.

Will we double dip?   Doubt it, but we'd have a YAC monster in the slot with Samuel, inside/outside flex with Shakir, speed outside in Worthy and a big body outside recevier in Baker.

    Locked up for:

    2 years Shakir

    3 years Samuel

    4 years Baker

    5 years Worthy

I think the idea is round 1 impact player. Round 2 starter and round 3 role player future starter.  Beane has made is money on day 3.  He seems to have a good feel.  His worst pick is Elam but imo Elam starts for half the league.

Just saw a graphic our 1st Round Picks... We've done pretty well.  One question mark in Elam, but I'm willing to give him this year before I say "bust" because he clearly has talent.

The next biggest issue I'd have is Oliver for where he was drafted.  He very good, but not yet elite.. and that was our chance (for where we drafted) to get that elite piece.

  3. I've watched Bowers quite a bit living in Atlanta.  He's really good, but more in the Kittle sense (IMO).

Where we drafted Kincaid to be a Kelce type.. route running, hands and spatial awareness in zone coverage.  Bowers doesn't strike me as a "feel" Tight End, more of a bruiser/athlete who has speed and power.

That isn’t what he is saying. He’s saying that you draft players for what they can provide over at least the next four years, not just in season one. Basically draft for the long term, not short term. That’s what smart teams do.

Perfect example of that for us would be Terrell Bernard.  Pick made no sense in a vacuum of one year for where he was taken, with Edmunds and Milano on the roster.

Fast forward two years and the guy is a key piece of the defense and an absolute stud in our system.

I really thing it's a fool's errand to expect that superior talent can over come mediocre coaching.   I think it's a strategy that works, at best, for a year or so, but then you're quickly stuck again with talent that matches every other team.   This happens because of the draft, the cap, and free agency.  Every team's roster turns over quickly.    I think the average is something like a third of your roster changes from year to year.  Now, granted, that's weighted toward the lower end of the roster, but there are significant departures almost annually, and certainly over three years.  QB is the only position that doesn't turn over.  If you have your starter, you keep him.  Left tackle is next.

Because of the roster turnover, it's a coaches' league.   And because it's a coaches' league, you're always going to be in a hole if you don't have quality coaches.  As I said yesterday, Dorsey was a serious mistake.  Daboll was decent, and we'll see about Brady, but the Bills essentially wasted two seasons by letting Dorsey run the offense.

If you believe, as I do, that Reid's talent at designing and implementing offense is a major part of the Chiefs' success, I think you also can see how unlikely it is that the Bills could accumulate so much talent that they could overcome what Reid does.   His offensive success essentially means that he makes every player on offense better, and it isn't possible to upgrade every position on defense so that the talent of your players overcome the advantage they have because of coaching.

The Bills need a really good OC, and they need to hold on to him for several seasons.   I think Brady could be the guy, but I don't know.   This season will tell us a lot.  The Bills will have the offensive roster they want - yes, even at wide receiver - they'll have an offensive line they have confidence in, and of course they have the QB.   It's very much up to Brady, and a part of that is driven by the leadership he gets from McDermott.

The thing that I can't wrap my head around is the development of Championship DNA.

And maybe that just comes with winning, and we have to get over the hump to do so.

McDermott owns 13 seconds.  I don't who to blame for CIN.. that just seems like an absolute mess all around leading into that game.

Then this year.. injury luck.  EVERY. YEAR.  KC stays healthy at key positions and we either have big injuries or a depleted roster.   KC's WR room.. which couldn't catch a cold all year, played great against us.. and pretty much everyone in the postseason.  Conversely, we had to rely on Sherfield due to injury (Beane to blame for WR issues) and he clearly did not step up to the moment.  And Diggs.. supposed to be our guy to offset Kelce.  And he gets clamped, fumbles, drops passes.  Playoff non-factor in big games year in/year out.

And alright, those two are gone.  Who's our Jones?  Maybe Oliver?... Oliver dominated the Steelers in the WC Game, but then got owned by KC.

What's it going to take to get people to elevate with Josh Allen when it matters?

  6. If it's for Nabers or Odunze, I'm firmly on board.  Anyone else, meh - as long as it's a modest trade up, ok.

We keep going to battle with a complete & deep roster.  And we keep losing to a team that has 3 dudes, 2 of which are better than anyone we've ever had (Kelce, Jones)

We'll have money next year to add legitimate FA pieces.  If a move can be made to find Josh Allen a "dude".. I'm ok trading away next years 1st with zero hesitation.

  7. Count me in with the group that would be extremely annoyed to see Spencer Brown traded in any fashion.

    Downside:

Contract Year and Back Injury History

    Upside:

Was an average to above average RT last year, who has unlimited potential

I'm certainly ok with taking a wait and see approach with him this season, even if it ends up costing us a few million more per year, but unless someone is blowing us away with an offer, you don't trade a good young RT with tons of untapped potential.

After KC has PROVEN, you don’t have to have Elite WRs, the trend is insane.  Look how many games Adams has helped the Raiders win after that massive deal.  Look where the fins went with Hill, etc.  ONE guy, maybe 15 opportunities a game cannot be taking 10-15% of the cap if you have a QB taking 20%,  the way it’s headed, you have a QB at 50+, pair of WRs at 50+, TE at 20+. LT/RT at 50+ the rest of the line at 30+ and we don’t even have a full offense on the field yet.  The math don’t math.   Going this crazy over WRs is the wrong move.

If every team could find a Kelce, this could be replicated.

  9. I feel like Uniparty, while a real thing, is more of a federal issue.

Moving from New York to the South is DRASTIC.  For anyone center/center-right who likes warm weather, in a good way.

Lower taxes, more freedom, less crime outside areas where you’d expect it, along with a much bigger focus on family & religion.  The local/state politicians all reflect that.

It’s the federal level i.e. a Lindsey Graham, Rick Scott, Marco Rubio who prioritize the big things similarly to Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff that give off the very evident reality of a Uniparty.

Locally though.. no, party still matters.

No surprise as some have compared him to Josh Allen and we all know who's running that team. That said would think the Patriots only ones that would trade down toss in with talk Daniels upset with the Commanders Maye might not be there at 3.

I don't see Josh Allen at all with Drake Maye.  He seems like a Justin Herbert clone who has T-Law scrambling ability.

I’ll put this in the rumors thread.

We're drafting Rome Odunze or Xavier Worthy. Write it down in ink.

Trade up for Odunze or stand pat/slight move for Worthy.

    I'll take it.

Odunze gives us the prototype WR1 to pair with Allen for the next five years, at least.

Worthy gives us effective outside speed at WR that we've never had for Allen.  Brown was good, but towards the end of his career and Foster was fast, but not very good.

If the Bills had simply drafted Jefferson instead of traded for Diggs, I believe they’d have at least one SB by now (provided Jefferson stayed as healthy as Diggs).
If they had taken Metcalf or AJ Brown in the 2nd instead of Cody Ford, that’s even more compensation the team could’ve kept to hit on other players.

I believe you’re correct, but I can’t fault Beane for making sure he got Allen a proven top tier WR over the potential of Jefferson (or whoever we would’ve taken there).

That being said.. Diggs want to be in his feels about not getting over the hump with Allen, but he’s a main culprit in why that occurred.

  13. If we make the playoffs, yes.

Take the Bengals with all the bizarre elements surrounding that game out of the equation and playoff Josh Allen is the best QB in the NFL.

We just need to find coaching and players (health) around him to match his energy.

That doesn’t mean we need to be as talented as we’ve been, it simply means we need a little bit better luck and for our team to have guys who step up in the big spots instead of shrink.

For as much as we loved the guys we’ve had.. they either didn’t step up or couldn’t stay healthy.   Let’s hope this new group of players can.

  14. This, obviously, makes all the sense in the world unless Beane has inside knowledge of WR’s shaking free post 6/1 with Tre’s $$ freeing up.

Its maddening to see some of our social media savvy Bills commentators pretend like this shouldn’t be the case.

We all thought we needed an early round investment WR before we traded Diggs.  Now we’ve lost both our outside guys and unless one believes Shakir can consistently win out there, are left with literally Mack Hollins and Justin Shorter.. ideally our WR5 and WR6.

We need two legitimate outside WR’s.. or at least guys who can win outside.. to just have an offense that makes any sense.

  15. The party of “women” is gutting Title IX

Honestly.. whatever.  This is obviously gross and people should stand up against it, but the people who it affects overwhelmingly vote for the party that’s doing this to them.

Democrats, once again, proving that they are not the party for women, they are simply the party for abortion.
