I too would rather go after a younger safety (maybe not Simmons who is 30) to fill that hole on the back end rather than go after Armstead. I think that McD has not proven he can find unheralded safety talent and plug them in for good production.

McD has had the combo of Po and Hyde since 2017. Since McD got here he’s only had one year when he had to plug in for either long term and that was 2022 when Hyde was out for the year. That year they ended up going with Hamlin who was not that great (certainly not bad but played like a decent backup safety). Really the only unheralded guy McD has found at safety has been Po who was signed in 2017, Hyde was a fairly big FA acquisition.

At corner McD has proven he can find players all over the draft and free agency. Dane Jackson and Benford were 6th rounders who played well, Levi Wallace looked competent as a UDFA and T Johnson one of the better slot corners in the league was a 4th round pick.

So while I think McD is great in the secondary overall I still don’t like the idea of having to spend a higher draft choice to play next to Rapp or going with Rapp and a mid round pick there. I much rather would find a younger safety in the 26-27 age range that is more proven to anchor one spot for the next few years and then draft a safety in the mid rounds to compete with Rapp.

    Couldn’t agree more

You hear/read posts all the time and comments themselves from the Bills, the team needs to draft and develop players to stay out of salary cap problems.  But yet you're ready to give up on Shorter who was just drafted last year in 5th round.  Signing, drafting, and spending money on players that don't have a clear spot to make the roster is a waste and will keep you in cap trouble all the time.

If Shorter is not on the team this year, that would be a big failure by the Bills in that they totally wasted a draft pick without ever giving him a chance to see what he can and can't do.  But I have faith in the team that they are smart enough to not do something that stupid and he will be on the roster this year.

Sherfield has a cap hit of $1.7 mil to cut.  For a team that has limited money that means letting him go and losing $1.7 mil, plus add in the salary of the new guy you're going to bring in to take his place who supposedly will be better.  Say you sign a new guy for $2 mil, you're now committed $3.7mil to that roster spot and for a $2 mil salary, not a high likelihood the new guy will be any better?  So for those reasons, while I wouldn't guarantee it, but good chance Sherfield sticks around as he's on a rather cash strapped team so it's hard to justify letting him go and actually improving much..

Likely the Bills have room for 1 to 2 WR unless they want to waste more money.  Just glad you're not the GM, or maybe you're actually Russ Brandon posting with a new name as this sounds like something he'd have done!

You should be glad none of us are the GM. Otherwise we would have passed in Mahomes and Allen in back to back years to take the “Right Josh” 😂😂

  3. Agree that 4-5 million seems steep. I believe it will be around 3 million. A thing to remember is he was playing out of his natural position which was Poyers spot last year so we may see a significant improvement.

They have proven that they can find guys in the secondary.  I have felt for years that we shouldn’t have been paying our secondary guys so much because I don’t see any drop off really from one guy to the next.

I hope they bring in a rangy proven vet/youngish next to him and it’ll be all good.

Either way this regime has earned my trust in the secondary.

Folks are speculating that Jeudy might not be available now because of an injury to KJ Hamler. I don't know. I said upthread, I think it was this thread, somewheres, that the higher the AZ price goes for Hopkins, the more Jeudy becomes a consideration (if he's available.)

I think I’ve come to this conclusion too. Honestly too much noise. Last years with Von it was all about Chandler Jones, Chandler Jones then we swooped in and got a better player.

I’m not saying Jeudy is better just more interesting to me being so much younger.
