I’m getting the feeling that Franklin could be around near pick 60.  Daniel Jeremiah seems to have some connections to teams and in his last top 150 he has Moved Franklin way down to 76.  I know that doesn’t make him right, but he had him a lot higher before - it seems like he got some intel that teams were less enamored with him.

His stock definitely took a hit at the combine....but the relatively polished skills and elite performance metrics are still there.

I think he would be an absolute steal at the end of round 2.

  2. Franklin is the guy.

He's a really good route runner, clever and deceptive with his breaks. He's a smart football player with great instincts who excels in the open field and on extended, broken plays. Just turned 21 and his frame is still thin, but he beat press man coverage consistently at an elite yprr rate, best in the class I believe. His top end speed is a marvel to witness.

None of the guys outside of the top 3 have consistently produced on the field like Franklin has, and none of them match his combined metrics in multiple yprr categories.

https://www.pff.com/news/fantasy-football-how-2024-nfl-drafts-wide-receiver-class-stacks-up-using-key-stable-metrics   He was also a top 3 recruit coming out of high school in '21, ranked higher than Nabers, Odunze,  Harrison, Thomas, Mitchell, Legette, Worthy, McConkey, etc when they were recruited.

This guy is a really good, smart football player with instincts and top end speed you can't teach.

I think he can contribute immediately and I would definitely take him over McConkey or Legette.

  3. Im thinking Troy Franklin is the pick...

Just turned 21 a couple months ago and.....

He's already a really good football player who runs clever routes and gets open consistently; he knows how to manipulate and fool DBs;  beats press, man, and zone coverage consistently;  excels at getting open on extended plays;  has instincts in the open field that you can't teach and a top playing speed that is a sight to see.

Concerns about his size are  overblown imo,  he just turned 21 a month or so ago and he'll fill out some still...

Regardless, he's already one of the very best in the class vs press coverage and bigger cbs can't corral him at the line.

Saw this chart on The Ringer today (part of a fun but silly article which nevertheless had some nice info hidden amongst the jokes).

Not a great look for Brian Thomas Jr and Adonai Mitchell, with the takeaway being that while they have everything you want from a physical standpoint and have both shown the POTENTIAL to be good, their college production (not just raw numbers, but yards per route run relative to their target rate) is lacking.

It would be a lot more useful and informative if they identified the other dots. Especially those 2 high in the northeast.....

  5. Good riddance...

Without the stupid extension it would have been a fond farewell, best of luck after last season.

Guaranteeing  him all that money and then having him act like such a selfish #######, forcing a big drain on this season changes my attitude to ***** you,  gtfoh.

He should be pelted with rotten fruit if he ever returns.

My love for Franklin is well documented. He’s very good at a lot of things. I’d be happy with him at 28, ecstatic if we got him after a trade down

@DCOrange has had Cowing as an early Day 2 talent for awhile. The stats backup what he saw.

I think Franklin's route running, football instincts, and explosiveness after the catch are top notch.  I think he is ready to contribute immediately and he just turned 21.

If the Bills like him they better grab him. I don't think he gets past the Chiefs myself.

I have watched him (Thomas Jr.) play and agree with Cossell he can be a #1 in time.

I have also seen him play plenty of times.

My response was to someone just declaring him a "true #1" when he hasn't had to be one.

His game needs work before he is a complete receiver imo. He has great physical talents and can definitely get there......but he is not a slam dunk and might be more of a deep threat early in his career.

Besides the top 3, I think Franklin  might be the most pro ready.  He is not the physical specimen Thomas is but he is a really good football player. Smart, clever, deceptive routes, an innate ability to get open, the instincts and explosiveness after the catch to be a threat from anywhere on the field. Had no problems getting off the line and beating man coverage consistently.

I will not be surprised if he is productive from the start and has a really good rookie year.

Legette is a boom or bust prospect, same goes for Mitchell. At this point I’m hoping we trade up for Brian Thomas Jr.. He’s a true #1. Add someone like Troy Franklin, Xavier Worthy, Ja’Lynn Polk, Burton or Pearsall in RD2.

    Thomas wasn't even a #1 in college.

Playing opposite Nabers definitely led to more single coverage and made getting open easier for him.

  9. I know it is total sacrilege to criticize Beane in any way but.......

What an unnecessary disaster of a contract extension that was.

Diggs was already under contract for 2 more seasons at only 14/per. It would have expired at the end of last season, the perfect time to say goodbye scott free just as his play and attitude took a nosedive off a cliff.

They could have waited a season for the extension to see how they felt about it then, there was no urgent need to do it.

Instead they paid him over $20 million more for the last 2 seasons than they would have. They guaranteed $70 million to an about to turn 30 immature malcontent, just when Allen was about to sign a huge 2nd contract. Now they are stuck with a $31 mil cap hit for nothing. Without the contract extension Diggs' cap hit this year would have been zero $0.

That would have been $31 million more to spend in pursuit of a Lombardi. That's a ***** big mistake.

It made no sense, was completely unnecessary, and turned out to be a complete disaster. You didn't need a crystal ball or ESP to see this as a possible result.  They also made no preparation or plan for this eventuality either.

This isn't just hindsight, I voiced my concern at the time.

  10. If I recall all this correctly; his contract before they gave him an extension in 2022 would have expired after last season. No dead cap, just a mutual parting of ways. I remember thinking that the extension didn't seem necessary, he was already under contract for that season and the next. The new contract saved them $6 million in cap space that year.

Now they trade him for a future pick and take the biggest one year dead cap hit for a WR in the history of the league. $31 million of your cap gone for no player at all. In all likelihood throw away your chances for an entire year for absolutely nothing. He was already under contract through last season.

      That's some real brilliant chess

  11. I'm so sorry to hear this. My heart goes out to you and those that loved him.

Tom was one of my favorite posters here; an intelligent, funny, insightful, and kind hearted human being. I will miss him. RIP WhoTom

Wishing you all the best on your souls continued journey. May they strike up the band when you arrive.

Don't expect Granato to be fired.  Terry is done paying people not to work for him; I think that directive went out to the organization about 4 or 5 years ago.

We are not functioning as a legitimate, competitive, NHL franchise.

That's how you go 13 years without playoffs.

They gave Granato an extension after his first year when they didn't even make the playoffs.

If you don't like paying people no longer working for you then don't give a rookie coach an extension after a mediocre first year. Idiots

Just heard tonight's attendance was announced as 14,000 and change.

No way in HELL it was anything close to that number.

It looked more like an 8,000 person crowd all night on TV.

The bulk of entire sections down by the glass empty.

The place looked half empty, the lower levels even more. It had the look of abject failure...

  14. Blow It Up...

Granato is under contract for 2 more years...take the hit and send him packing

I bet Pegula was feeling real good watching tonight's game. Wake up Terry

Why were Adams and Granato elevated when neither of them has had any success as a coach or GM anywhere in the NHL and the Sabres have never been good with either of them in the org. It makes no ***** sense. The team has been bad for over a decade, so let's make the asst coach the head coach and then sign him to an extension after almost making the playoffs. That should change things. Half the ***** teams in the NHL make the playoffs. An extension because you almost achieved mediocrity???

WTF!!! Hire some successful experienced people instead of promoting people who have been a part of this disaster of a team. Get a real coach, a real GM, and hire a Scotty Bowman-like President.

    Enough of this garbage

  15. I'm glad I watch at home. I live on the west coast so season tickets are not even an option.

I'm glad I got to go to a lot of games as a kid.

I have to admit that with all the gambling $$$$$ involved these days; it would be hard to invest so much in a league that claims in court defense to be an 'entertainment' business like Championship Wrestling.

Wish the state money used to fund the stadium came with the stipulation that ownership could not charge for PSLs, otherwise they would have to reimburse the taxpayer funding.

    I agree

The PSL money reimbursing the owner but not the taxpayers is bull####.

Put what to a vote?  PSL's?  that makes no sense.  Do people vote if the Olive Garden offers chicken parm?  Its on the market, buy it or don't buy it, it is all of our choice.

Olive Garden doesn't build their restaurants with public funds.

He was good at guard. I don't think you can just say "he will be as good at center" it needs to be proven. He has played it some though and Edwards who would come in at guard in that scenario started at guard on a Superbowl team. And there is the potential for year 2 growth from Torrence. I see a route to the line being better (unlike safety where I see no route) but it shouldn't be considered a slam dunk that it is and if they get a shot at a high calibre tackle early they should take them IMO and work out the best 5 from there.

I'm hoping Edwards is an upgrade at guard and I'm crossing my fingers for Torrence to progress rapidly.  The center and depth are my biggest concerns. I have to admit, your insistence that he was good gives me a little more hope, even if I don't share such a high opinion.

I'd like the line to keep getting better

  19. 2 minutes ago, GunnerBill said:

    Yes he was.

You are welcome to your opinion and I hope he is a good center.

I'm not confident that the line will be as good as last year, and definitely not confident they can stay healthy all season like last year.

I consider last year's line somewhere in the middle....average.

Average is the same as really good for the Bills...
