  1. Sal was saying that is a real possibility earlier this week. If Peterman beats him out, Yates is gone. They won't keep as as 3rd QB.

If that's what happens, you have to wonder if maybe they dumped Cardale a little too quickly then, cause they'll have to go find another #3. (Not that I really see Cardale ever turning into anything, but still...). It's too soon to make comments like this, though.

  2. He did. He definitely improved from his 1st drive out there. I think the knee is still slowing him down and his mind has to get back in football shape. gotta get his instincts sharpened. He will NOT be cut. No matter what anyone on here says

It almost looked like his knee kind of gave out on him on that one play. Unless it was just 100% a slip.

But yeah I agree. He hasn't played football in an an entire year, and now he's playing in a totally new defense to him. I don't think he's ever played in a 4-3 like this before. He definitely needs time. It'd be silly to cut him. It's not like he's making a lot of money, or we have great LB depth.

  3. Dropping defensive lineman is done by every single team in the NFL, it's as old as Dick LeBeau himself. But I like Fraziers style for our squad.

One of the tenants of the Leslie Frazier defense is preventing first downs. The "punts as turnovers" principle is strong with Frazier, who always preaches limiting damage and keeping plays in front of his defense, rather than going with an aggressive approach.

You won't see as many turnovers or sacks, but you also won't give up three games of 200+ yard rushers like last year.

By Frazier's second year in charge of the defense (2008), the Vikings became top-5 in the NFL in not allowing first downs. They would remain a top-10 first-down preventing defense until 2011, Frazier's first full year as head coach of the Vikings.

To me he's a classic cover 2 guy, which is why I'm amazed we didn't stay put and draft Malik Hooker, but that's another story.

It may not happen immediately, but I actually expect this defense to create many more turnovers and sacks than under Rex. They didn't create many turnovers under Rex (I think only 18 last year?), and that is a staple of McDermott's defense. He loves creating turnovers. Carolina was near the top of the NFL in turnovers in many of McDermott's years there. Even last year with a bunch of rookies in the secondary they were tied for 4th. 2015 they were 1st. 2013 they were 5th. They were near the top of the NFL in sacks many years too, IIRC.

  4. Pass pro has been damn good. Lots of pocket time, and if TT gets the ball out on time, the rush is negated. But AGAIN, just like his entire career, he holds onto the ball too long

Not sure I'd say the pass protection has been damn good... I thought they struggled pretty badly at times.

But TT did hold the ball a bit too long on a couple. But overall I thought he looked pretty good. He was really getting rid of the ball quick the first few plays. Hopefully that's something we will see more of.
