Not a bad strategy. But it goes both ways. If I were a DC, I’d make it a point to key on LJ on every read option and hit him, regardless. Yes, that may leave you vulnerable to a big play when he decides to hand off at the mesh point, but he’s gonna take a shot regardless. Every. Time. The season after Colin Kaepernick led the Niners to the SB, DCs did just that and the impact was immediate.

I’m a big Rutgers fan. Years ago when Schiano was here for the first time, we played a lot of triple option teams. His strategy was the same. Always hit the QB. On every play.
    Worked wonders.

As others mentioned, Daboll tailors each week’s offensive philosophy toward the opponent specifically. I have a feeling the bills are going to see the same D Belichick put out there the first pats game with the 6 DBs and the Bills will run the ball a lot. Ravens have better talent on D than the pats but aren’t as discoplined on the second level. Ravens will invite them to run and aren’t great at stopping it. They also are very bad tackling team.

Couldn’t disagree more. The Ravens are awful when you spread them out and go 4 wide. Awful.
We are going to see a bunch of that.

  3. You'll have to excuse Ed, he went to Rutgers.  He has no concept of what a rivalry game is.  You see, in order to have a rivalry game your team has to occassionally win a game they aren't supposed to against a superior ranked opponent, rather than get waxed year after year after year.

I'm sure that traditional football power Louisville considers Rutgers a rival now.  They're probably going to bring Scooter McCray, Darryl Griffith, and Lancaster Gordon back to fire up the troops for next season's "big game".

Oh Mr. @#$#*...It's so cute how you follow me everywhere...

I'm just curious as to what college you went to.

  4. I know I butchered his name! :lol::D

Bart, is he going to play baseball full time? I read on ESPN awhile back that he might not want to play football.

If he does play FB, do we take him in the first round? Tons of talent, he can run, catch, and is TALL!

  5. Is he a FB or RB in the NFL?

I think it depends on the team. If you run a strict single back type offense, he can be your main guy (in that case, I'd liken him to a Eddie George type).

I think he'd be better utilized as a FB (the dude can block like I've never seen). he'd be excellent on the 3rd and 1's and fourth and goals.

I know it's a reach to take a FB in the second round, but he can do it all.

Who are we kidding? Marv is going to pick a CB to replace Clements! :D

  6. On a serious note though, I really like this kid.

He's a ferocious blocker, and can carry the load RB wise. I liken him to a faster version of Mike Alstott.

He can run, catch, and block. If we can take an O-lineman in the first round (Blalock probably), grab Leonard in the 2nd, and a DE/DT in the third (which we better address in FA), I'd be very happy.

  7. Davis/Williams worked with the old coaching staff that Mackovic/Brown had, which I think played a big part in it.  McWhorter's scheme and players are different then the previous coaches.

Dockery is a starter for Washington who has done pretty decent.  I know Scott, a rookie, started some games for the Lions this year at RT, but I'm not sure how he did, I didn't see the games (it was against Chicago, maybe Miami, and someone else).

Everything I've read about Blalock seems like the kid is going to be really good.

If he has the desire and even a smidgeon of NFL talent, McNally can shape him. MW had the talent, but no desire.

If we draft in the 13 + range, i would definately take him.

On a side note, do you know him? Butter up to him now if he becomes a Bill. There's your in!

  8. I forgot a link to his bio.

Anyway, since I don't want to flood the board (unlike some other people), I'll stop here.

Rich, what do you think he'll do in the NFL?

He's a Texas OL. While he may be a good one, I'd be gun-shy about drafting another one in the first round.

In all seriousness, does Texas have any OL in the NFL that start? I don't know off the top of my head.
