    I think you're wrong.

Your evidence that he's feeling the pressure is based on you evaluation of his performance in a press conference.  He's ALWAYS been bad in press conferences.  He's uncomfortable, he doesn't like it, and he isn't good at figuring out how to give useful answers to questions without saying too much.

It's ridiculous, meaning it's fair to subject you to ridicule, for you to compare McDermott to Dick Jauron.  McDermott has built a perennial top-five favorite to win the Super Bowl, and Jauron went 7-9 three years in a row before the team fell apart.  There is NO meaningful comparison.

You're free to not like McDermott, but you're not going to convince anyone who knows football.  The 49ers aren't firing Shanahan and the Bills aren't replacing McDermott.

As always Shaw, well written.  I like Ethan, but his bias gets in his way.  He has a right to his opinions, I just disagree as is my right.  I think McD is a good coach but like 31 others has flaws.  There is no perfect coach.

Once again thank you for bringing pro football to WNY and for keeping the team in Buffalo then OP all of these years. Without Ralph there would be no Buffalo Bills.

I just saw this and couldn’t agree more.  He had a lot flaws, but his loyalty to a small market city, vs. making a killing selling the team multiple times was a gem.  In the end his family made the call they only wanted a billionaire who had ties to Buffalo like the Pegulas.

I read many posts saying this team has taken a step back and truth is we have not. Lets break it down.

    Offense:

    QB = Same

    RB =  Same

WR = Improved. Samuel IS an  upgrade over Davis

OL =  Same/ slightly improved  Morse was old, and light in the butt. McGovern is younger and has played center and been prepping for this moment

TE =  Improved. Kincaid now has a year of experience and will hit the weight room

OC =  improved. I cant wait to see his own system implemented

So the offense is slightly improved.

    Defense:

DL Same to slightly improved. We are all praying Von improves, and so far I feel we have improved our depth. We need to increase pass rush through the draft.

LB =  Improved. We will get Milano back and our other LB's greatly stepped up

CB: = Slightly Improved. Douglas now has time in our system and a full offseason to get it down. Benford has another year and hopefully the new DB coach can help Elam

Safety: = Slightly improved. This is the one position I expect hysterical wailing and gnashing of teeth on, but Hyde and Poyer were showing their age badly last year. I say the two new starters just have to be smart (keep your damn head and eyes up Rapp!) and be in the right position at the right time and tackle.

Defense = Same to slightly improved

Do we still need WR, esp. Diggs replacement and an upgrade, yes. Do we still need to use draft picks on the Defense, Absolutely.  We are always looking to improve, but we are no where near as bad off as some fans, and media, want to make it out to be.

Sooner, I agree with most of what you wrote, although still a bit nervous will it all come together.  Hopefully everyone read the cap space article from Beane’s interview yesterday as it’s in today’s news on the main page.  We basically have $7 mil, which is basically what’s needed for the draft and an emergency fund.  We’ll get 10 mil. In June from Tre’s release.  I don’t know if we could wait to use that on free agents going on the PS or use now.  The point is we have to rely on the draft for filling the gaps.

Some people think Beane is not a good drat person, but that is not a definite as some posters cherry pick the draft misses.  It’s true he’s missed in some and he’s also hit on some of the later picks.

WR1 is absolutely a dire need.

WR2 has been a dire need for years and ignored.

Now Diggs is approaching WR2 status and the WR room is still lacking a true WR1.

I like Beane … but his refusal to address the WR position has been painfully consistent.

Gugs, as always right on point.  To trade down would be a mistake.  Rather trading up and converting 11 picks to 7-8 is more my interests.  Absolutely, we need two WR’s.  One in a traded up 1st round, and another in the mid rounds.  Everyone knows we need D Line, amd Safeties.  Lastly a later O Line for depth on the interior.

Even if you could find a GM willing to trade you a WR1, if it's an established player, you are talking about a large contract coming in. And then, of course, a shorter shelf life. Diggs was an unusual case, in any event, and the cost was a first round draft choice. Why not spend it on a rookie WR with potential? Maybe you think Minnesota wants to try and repeat the Diggs trade, and send us Justin Jefferson . . .

Exactly, as some people just can’t seem to fathom we have 11 picks, and very little $.  It’s not our year for a big trade.  After this year, maybe as our cap cleans up well next year.  We purged a lot of the cap hit this year.

Honestly as long as he keeps performing well on the field, he csn do what he wants.  We all know he takes winning and being the best he can seriously.

I feel at his age ( both real age and how many years playing)  its more Quality work vs. Quantity

Agreed.  I really don’t care how much he works out as we don’t know everything, and he always seems to look in shape come TC.  He doesn’t miss voluntary OTA’s unless he’s excused.

Heading into the draft, I feel pretty good about the Bills.  The only thing lacking is a pash rush from the front 4.  I am concerned Groot has had a couple seasons now and needs to step up and be a 10+ sack guy.  I don't like depending so much on Von. Other than that I feel all the other positions are solid.

Depending on who is there at 28, I am tempted to move down, possibly with Carolina who may want to move back into the 1st. Possibly Washington as well to get a 3rd round pick.   Maybe use a 4th and 5th( or 6th) to move up in the 2nd.

WR is still #1 on my list followed by DL.  Safety in the 4th, along with just BPA from there on out.

How are you guys feeling about a month out from the draft?

Id like to say we had a quiet, but needed FA.  We have 11 draft pics so we’ll be able to fortify and if Beane want to even trade up a little.

Removing Bates & Morse from the roster leaves the Bills with Edwards, McGovern & O’Torrence on the IOL(unless I missed a FA signing…or one of the guys listed at OT can also be a viable IOL backup).

Unless they sign a couple of names before the draft, I would think IOL will be a Day 2 or early Day 3 priority.

Well we do have 11 picks so I can see Beane using a mid to late round for depth candidates.

I have a home in Dunedin and am there for part of there, if either you or Kwai want to meet up.

There is a Bills bar there called Buffalo Charlies.

Sounds good Einstein.  We’ll get in touch in the fall.

Sadly not gonna make it - The Wide Right Special is what I was naming the design that mimicked the 25th SB logo.  Sorry for being sly....but again - great idea!!

I am on that like White On Rice.  Sadly I just tripped into the 60 category but I am still game for a meet.  When the season gets closer we will talk!

    Sounds good.

    ill pm you

    2018 Draft Profile:

    Overview

Three-year starter with an excellent motor to go along with above average toughness. Joseph's athletic ability and quickness serve him well as a run defender, but he is unlikely to be much of a factor as a pass rusher on the next level. Joseph will need to add mass, but he's got a shot to fit into a rotation as either a three-technique or shade nose in a 4-3 defense.

    Strengths

Plays with very good quickness off the snap. Impressive 4.97 forty at his pro day with a 10-yard split to match. Quick hands, strong hands. Flashes two-gap sensibilities with ability to punch, spy, and disengage. Plus agility to scrape along the line to mirror the runner. Explosive lateral burst to snare running backs from the backside. Never stagnant with relentless motor. Good feel for blocking schemes and attacks his attacker. Makes impact tackles near the line of scrimmage.

    Weaknesses

Lacks pass rush production relative to his athletic ability. Was often subbed out on obvious passing downs. Has played nose at Rutgers and could face move to three-technique in pros. Could use more mass and anchor at the point of attack. Can be stalemated when facing quality strength across from him. Was unable to impose his will against Michigan State's Brian Allen. Needs twists and games to help him get off the mark as a rusher.

    This was good. Thanks.

I’m going to semi-retire on September 1, and my wife and I want to start coming to some home games, plus start scheduling some trips we’ve put off till retirement.

First congrats on your upcoming retirement.  Second, if the schedule comes out in may, you still have more than enough time for a September or whatever game in the fall.  I take my kids to a September game each year as long as it’s at 1pm.

This party seems like a awesome idea.  For a kinda newbie, I stalked this site for years before I joined, I know quite a few screen names.  Helluva drive for me as I am south of @machine gun kelly by an hour or more so I might be in the @Augie category and asking for a Wide Right Special.  I truly hope that there is that kinda option for those of us who wouldn't be able to make it.  Sure wish I knew about Hammers back in the day......I started my seasons in 1987 and stopped attending full time in 2010.

At any rate - this is an awesome idea!  Oh and I too am pushing into the 3rd quarter of life........what a drag it is getting old.....BUT!?!  Mothers Little Helper does help!

Kwai, we should watch a game together this year.  Since we’re both in our 50’s, I’d say a 1 pm game.  I try to ring my kids up in September for a 1 pm game, and go with the cousins, and nephews.  Outside if that weekend, I’m available.  I can meet you half way in Clearwater or St. Pete.
