Sean has to take a lot of credit for a defensive performance that rivals any in years. These players were prepared to be physically dominant and fundamentally sound. No stupid penalties, great tackling and pressure when needed was what we served up today. Dallas walked out of Buffalo a beaten and demoralized team. What an incredible game.

The McDermott Era is full of great games and dominant performances. Yesterday was no exception. But can they play that focused week after week after week?

That's always been the issue under McDermott. The lack of consistency. They'll play a great game, maybe two great games in a row. But then follow it up with a stinker where the team is out of synch, tight, unmotivated, unfocused, etc.

what did you hear (other than him saying “it’s not me”—obviously it is)?

I realize that Diggs did literally say "It's not (because of) me."

But when listening to the press conference and gathering the full context of what he was talking about, to me it sounded like what he meant was "My lack of production in recent games is not for lack of effort on my part - it's because defenses are doing a good job".

"(Opposing defenses) have been doing a good job. For me personally, I've been trying, bro. I promise you, I've been trying. It's not because of me, you know what I'm saying? Teams are doing a good job. We've just got to continue to make plays and I guess spread the ball around. We've been winning so far. You know, in a perfect world I want the ball. I want to have success. But at the end of the day, if we're winning games that's what I got to tip my hat to. But I'm still chasing greatness each and every day. It's not because I don't want it. I promise you that. I want to still continue to play at a high level. But I've got to play within the scheme and 'be me with us'. We've got a slogan - or some words to live by, 'Be you with us'. I'm going to still be me. I'm not going to stop. But hopefully we get some things rolling."

If you focus solely on the statement "It's not because of me" by itself and ignore the rest of everything he says around those five words, you would think that he's putting blame elsewhere and not holding himself accountable. But again, if you listen to the full conversation that he's having with the media and have a better understanding of the context around "It's not because of me" you realize that he's talking about his effort and dedication and giving credit to opposing defenses. That's it.

I like Tim Graham but what he did was total BS.

I'm seeing a high of 49 and a low of 43 with light rain on multiple sites... doesn't seem terrible, are people seeing worse forecasts?

What's worse than rain and temps in the lower 40s?

I love that Dallas will be miserable in the cold rain. And no one can tell me Buffalo will be equally as miserable.  they will be hyped and are more used to crappy conditions. Although with the slick ball the chances of turnovers increases. whoever wins that ratio will win the game.

    It never ends.

One of the other things that struck me from the Josh PC comments was he said something to the effect of how McD has grown.   In the aftermath of Hamlin there were multiple players who said words to the effect that it brought out a side of McD they had never seen before (impliction the "human element").  It made me realize that many of the "sources" were commenting on their experience from years ago, and it was used to characterize him as he is today.  While still not without faults - he isn't necessarily the same coach/person today that he was for some/many of those source accounts

Is your assertion that he's a better coach now? Because the results don't seem to reflect that.

Wayne Arnold… do you really want me to go through the post and bold all of your assumptions.  I really don’t want to.  But I will.

I can think of one off the top of my head - you said he made a “load of money.”  Assumption 1

I don't like arguing semantics but saying "he probably earned a load of money for it" is not an assumption. It's a hypothesis. Saying "the article was worth it because he earned a load of money for it" would be an assumption. See the difference?

I agree.  It may not work out 100% of the time but i have to believe the Bills are more adaptable to chilly, rainy, crappy weather. They have plenty of experience in this.  Dallas plays in such sterile conditions the majority of the time. They will be uncomfortable and despite what people say, Dallas will not be a desperate team.  They are in the playoffs.  Ball security will be huge.

Wish I could agree but recent history tells us that the Bills do not play well in crappy weather at all.

I think back to hosting the Colts in the rain in 2021 and getting romped - to last season's playoff loss to the Bengals.

More than anything, it takes mental toughness to play well in bad weather. Since 2017, this team has lacked mental toughness. I'll let you figure out the common denominator there.

(Then proceeds to retort with a helluva lot of assumptions himself!”)

I went back over my reply and didn't see a single assumption there. Hard to take the rest of your post seriously after that.

Although I'll say that the story is not dead in comparison to other sports stories that are written about small market teams throughout the year and will be referenced by people at least through the end of the season whether this season proceeds to go well or poorly.

It appears that you may be letting your bias skew your ability to evaluate the subject. A perfect example of what I was referencing when I talked about the emotional defenders who lash out at those who question people in power. That percentage is the most vocal, making it seem as if more people are against the criticism than for it. But that's not necessarily the case. See: vocal minority.

I’ll go a step further - I think Dunne saw this article as on opportunity to grow his subscriber base in Buffalo but it did the opposite.

Dunne knows that Buffalo and Green Bay are his most fertile areas for growth.  He also has the most connections having lived, worked and covered both pro teams.  What Dunne was saying about McDermott from a football standpoint echoed what the majority of Bills fans were saying…McDermott:

    - is to blame for :13

    - meddles in the offense

    - refuses to accept blame

    - is wasting Allen

    - sucks in clutch situations

My guess is that Ty thought the majority of Bills fans, already upset with McDermott, would latch onto his article and think “ugh this McDermott is so horrible.” They’d subscribe and share the article, maybe gift subs for the holiday season.   This is why I think he went in so hard on him, to say he’s not only a bad coach but also questioned his character.  Almost like a scathing article on a political figure like Trump or Biden.  The more dirt the more the detractors love it.

But the opposite of this actually happened.  Fans, players, and the media read the article (rightfully IMO) as a character attack on McDermott.  They might not want him as a coach but he’s shown he’s a decent person.  I think it also pissed off the team like “he’s a hard ass coach,  but he’s our hard ass coach!”

As for Dunne, I don’t really think it got him the acclaim wanted.   His peers praised him but he was already highly regarded.  Many news outlets picked up on his article but the story didn’t have legs and I’m doubting it led to many conversions.

I don’t think he’s loving the scrutiny either, as he’s been keeping a very low profile on Twitter.  Not really basking in the glow of controversy or having his ethics questions.

In the end, I don’t see Dunne hurting his reputation with the football community at large but I he did some damage among the fans who would play $8 that are arguably more important.

I think you're making a helluva lot of assumptions here.

The article got a TON of publicity. Dunne probably earned a load of money for it - maybe even more than anticipated.

Many people (including many Bills fans) found it intriguing and informative and supported Dunne for writing it.

When a writer has the balls to write articles questioning people in power, it's always going to be controversial and it's completely expected that there will be backlash and scrutiny. A certain percentage of people will get offended by it. And they're the ones who are the most vocal because they're the most emotional about it. They rush to the powerful person's defense because they somehow take it personally - as if it's an attack on them or a family member. In this case they see the head coach of the Buffalo Bills as some sort of hero figure or a representative of their community and/or own personal identity and they will defend him as such. I've seen it first-hand on this message board alone.

I'm sure Dunne hasn't receive any more scrutiny than he expected before releasing it.

Yeah, it was incredibly noticeable.  I'm wondering to what extent Brady has anything to do with that.

But absolutely, we've put nearly no significant resources into our OL, not one 1st-round OL pick in any of the 5 Drafts since drafting Allen, only two 2nd-rounders, one having been Ford, and Torrence only late in the 2nd round.  Only one overall offensive player in the 5 Drafts since then, none in the first four of those Drafts, only Kincaid this year.

How someone doesn't focus around a franchise QB is mindboggling.

This is the best OLine Allen has ever played behind. Chiefs have an excellent defense this season and played well at home. Sometimes you just have to tip the cap to the other team.

But the thing you miss is that crap is not a real piece of journalism, but a  only a 'man' with a vendetta, listing a slew of criticisms and then smushing these unrelated events together, connecting them (very, very poorly) to make the case against a man he hates.

This person is not a journalist, any more than others with blogs are journalists, just a guy with his own site, charging others to pay for his 'work'.  No true Bills' fan will ever read this idiot's writing again.

He has no editor or fellow writers to give him feedback and such,to reign in his worst traits, as a newspaper/magazine/pro-online news organization would.

I cannot imagine any fan of the Bills accepting this muckraking as legitimate journalism.

So glad it is now being held up across the country for what it is--trash.

You're way too emotional about it.

Unless you're related to McDermott, it's weird.
