i'm going to say that he needs more experience. pretty much every qb in the league has more, considering his college team and competition. now what are YOU going to say???!??!

It depends how many good things he does.

If he makes mistakes but leads a game winning TD drive then I feel to myself that this guy has IT.

There has to be continued potential.

I don't know how anyone who watched last Sunday's game did not see that Barkley was in better control of the offense?  You can argue that his arm strength limitation led to the critical short-hop incompletions to Beasley and Zay, but his throws were always to the correct targets, which is not something that you can say about Allen's game at this point.   Allen's best drive occurred when he could still rely on the running game or throw to the underneath RB.   Those plays were gone from Barkley's stints because the RB needed to stay home to block, yet he still found the open receiver.

I don't know how much more evidence you need to see that Barkley was in better control of the plays as they were called?

Few years ago Barkley was rumoured to be the No1 pick in the draft, definitely top ten. I think he stayed in college and dropped as a result.

Barkley doesn't look as good as Allen and that plays in some.

If Allen is cleared...do you think he should still sit?  If so, why don't we just cut him...what is the point of sitting him if he is cleared?  Isn't the point of drafting him to play him?

You would have thought so. It all depends on how McDermott wants to manage the concussion/ development.

If he's fine does McDermott want to let him ponder for a couple weeks. If it's close does McDermott air on the side of caution. If he's fine does McDermott believe the best way is for him to play.

    It definitely happens.

I don't think it's that people believe Barkley is better per se, I think it's to do with what in the bigger picture develops Allen more. Another two week gap watching and learning and back for the dolphins, or to play straight away and learn by doing.

No concussion and there wouldn't be a conversation.

Depends on the position of the defenders around him, but sure I can see that. You can be vulnerable to a cheap shot even when sliding; like Flacco was. It’s a fine line and Allen was pretty upright when he was being wrapped up initially. Seemed like he braced himself when he saw the headhunter coming at him and lowered his head instinctively . I’d guess that play will be fresh in his memory for awhile.

Lots of defenders will want to injure Allen in the heat of battle, let's not be naive about it. Already seen the jets guys cheap shot, burfickt, the patriots guy. Subjective to how dirty these hits are. When I think of Wilson, Rodgers, Brady, Manning when he played, Brees, Mahomes. They all slide.

Once ? So for you, Allen must never get tackled in the open field after a run again ? He has done the slide this season already, so it’s not like he never does it. Injury was unfortunate, but he’ll likely limit the hits over time. Of course , Newton still takes hits and what year is he in now? Anyway, the Bills don’t have to make a decision on Allen until after his 3rd season. Lots of time yet for the big picture to play out.

He's being given the benefit of the doubt at the moment with INTS and FUMBLES, SACKS, DEEP BALL etc which is right..

I think he should be given a certain freedom to develop with this stuff. INTS don't bother me so much.

Where I do think he needs to CHANGE is running head first for a first down. TOO MUCH of a risk.

Also, you talk of cam Newton. Look how f***** he is now.

That interception was due to him not setting his feet and throwing off his back foot.

But he's set his feet on some of the deep balls he's missed right?

I take your point technically but it has to be in his head aswell, TOO many missed to be just a technique thing.

Allen's got a cannon for an arm and most of his long balls are overthrows. He needs to raise the trajectory of his throw to give his wide out more time to adjust their speed to the ball. I think a lot of his throws deep are too low and too fast

Yeah I think it becomes a mental thing. He did that on one of the Jones targets against the pats and it was behind the receiver and picked.

If Allen would have slid instead of trying to pick up that yard he would have been available for thebend of the game.

I admire Allen's courage and character. I think he deserves the benefit of the doubt once.

McDermott HAS to have said to him 'slide we need you to stay on the field'

But If Allen plays the Titans game and runs head first I just think theres a BIGGER problem that will never go away.

    *sigh*

Except that in the three previous games, it was pretty clear Allen had made a significant step forward in executing the game plan, processing what he sees, and taking what the D gave him.  He also made some boneheaded careless plays, but that's different.

Even in the Pats game, Allen ran a very good drive in the 2nd half and was driving again when he got knocked out.

I swear, there's a collection of bipolar fans here.

    Sure, that's fair.

My comment was a little sarcastic yes but

Allen's playing in a 'bipolar' way as we know. Good and bad.

Perhaps the Pats game has concerned ME more than others.

With the bye coming the following week, I can see the appeal of playing it very safe, but if he’s cleared I’m sure he’ll go.

These things are hard to gauge, and I obviously have no idea what will happen. I know a lot of players are not 100% truthful so they can “help the team”. I’d suggest Josh sliding a little more would really “help the team” long term more than getting decapitated trying to get that last yard. I’d rather he slide after 6 on 3rd and 8 than take those hits. There’s always 4th and 2 (and we were in that territory), PLUS the rest of the season!

I agree. He needs to slide
