The Bills will always be super bowl contenders as long as Josh Allen is their QB and he is not injured (Touch wood!!!)
The team is still loaded on offense even with the loss of Diggs and Davis. James Cook was the 3rd or 4th best RB last season in the NFL and will only get better as he continues to correct his mental errors. Dalton Kincaid came on very strong in the 2nd half of the season and can continuously move the chains. The same goes for Shakir. He made clutch catches in the 2nd half of the season and was better than Diggs and Davis in the limited opportunities, We still have Knox who can make those big catches on the sidelines when the game is on the line. Adding a speedy boundary receiver on the perimeter will help take the sting out of the Diggs loss. Not to forget the signing of Curtis Samuel.
Hyde and Poyer were slow and on the downside of their career. They could not make the difference in the Playoffs and we need to find out what the young guys can do. If Milano can come back from his gruesome injury successfully, then he and Bernard should form a good LB core that can make the 3rd down defensive stops that we sorely lacked in the playoffs. With Cornerbacks, again it is not that we have lost superstars. They are all replacebale via the draft or the 2nd and 3rd wave of FA.
The biggest weakness of this team is its coaching staff. They have not been able to out-coach the GOOD teams in the playoffs. That is due to the conservativeness of McDermott. He has to change that to be successful in the playoffs. The chiefs are winning because they have Andy Reid as their OC and a fiery Steve Spagnola as their DC. Steve has had much lesser experienced talent than the Bills to work with and he has successfully molded that defense. The Chiefs won this SB not because of Mahomes (who does Mahomes things) but due to that outstanding defensive effort.
Go Bills !!!!

$1.29 million???? What did bBeane give him last year? $7million for 15 catches and a punt return TD? Embarrassing.
A punt return that was responsible for #2 Seed !!!

McDermott is 5-0 in the playoffs against 5-7 seeds and 0-6 against 1-4 seeds. I don’t see how losing some of the team’s best players - whether that was to injury, age, trade or free agency - is going to help us over that hump. The Bills should be a good team again, but we need several difference makers besides Allen to compete for a title. This draft is about finding at least one of those. They’ll draft and spend next offseason on players they think can add to that list. Obviously the coaches have to do their jobs too.
The Chiefs are winning SB not just because of their offense but due to a brilliantly constructed defense and a great DC in Steve Spagnola. The Bills have had good offense, but their defense has been poor in the playoffs. Unless we fix that, the 0-6 will soon become 0-7

None of us who realize there are two Josh Allens playing would be worried about it.
It's interesting that LB Josh Allen isn't very far behind QB Josh Allen in annual salary. But QB Josh Allen will likely have a much longer career. LB s wear out quicker.
and a massive 3rd contract !!!!

Forget about defense. If we are going to win it's on the back of the offense. How many times do you have to see the elite D fail in the playoffs to know no matter how good they make the D it's not going to matter? McD should be able to make due with what he gets on D.
That is one of the reasons why that D has been dismantled..

It’s interesting to talk about right now because he was just traded and it’s the off-season but I am looking forward to another two weeks when we really start to focus on who is on and who will be on the team. Putting Diggs in our rearview mirror will be a good thing.
Yes. Until that game against Houston, which now is likely on prime TV. I am sure they are going to independently interview the two guys and then make drama out of it.

Like everyone else on the defense, he was hurt. But yeah he did fail to bounce back from that hurt and produce again.
They all failed to produce in the Playoffs when it was very much needed.

Diggs wanted to win. That's all he cares about. He didn't believe the Bills can win and that they missed their window. That's all you need to know.
I think this is a very fair point and it is Diggs opinion right or wrong.

Was it? Crap, my brain is broke. I thought we traded back into the 1st for Edmunds
We had two 1st rounders that year. One was our pick and the 2nd one is the one we got from KC for the Mahomes trade.
Ours was the higher pick due to us making the playoffs.
We traded the 12th and two second round picks with Tampa Bay to move to 7 to get Allen. we had to get in front of Arizona to draft Allen.
The Giants were the first partner, but they balked when Barkley was available.
Denver was going to be the 2nd partner but they decided to draft Chubb.
Colts were always going to draft the Guard.
In between Cleveland picked QB and CB and the Jets picked their QB

OP concedes "On paper the Bills are slightly downgraded", then spends the rest of the article telling us how the the Bills "should be ok" with the downgrades----after opening by dragging a guy who claims the Jets are better on paper.
gotta love this place...
one man's opinion is another man's garbage. Go Bills !!!

You can always count on Bill Belichick to make a head scratcher.
Though, that may not be the case for 2024. He has a high pick and the QB that NE desperately needs will be there.
That was his parting gift to the Patriots!

We already paid a FA contract for a WR in Curtis Samuel. The Bills need to get younger and cheaper to keep their cap space in good shape. They need to go to the draft and get some good players who will be here for the next four years.

I don't see us giving up that much draft capital.
Agreed. The Bills need to get younger and cheaper at many positions to keep their salary cap numbers down. The draft is the best place to find that and the Bills have plenty of draft picks this year. I don't think the Bills will mortgage the future like that for a WR. Plus the talent pool is so deep at WR that they can still find the great ones at the end of the 1st round.

Plus the Bills have studs in James Cook and Kincaid. And Shakir always comes to the party and this could be his big year. -

We better trade this pick to move up and draft one of the top WRs
This draft is deep for the WR position. The Bills should let them have the draft come to them. I am sure they can get a George Pickens type player in Rd 2.

If I trade our 1st next year it would have to be for MHJ, Nabers, or Odunze.None of them will make it to 17 or 18.
The draft always surprises you.
DK Metcalf was a sure fire 1st Round pick in the 1st half of the round...and yet he fell down to the 2nd half of the 2nd round. You never know who will fall.

Diggs was firing on all cylinders in the first six games of the season...then what happend ?

Knox will be missing alot more time June 1st, 2025. Other than just 2 tds, I was happy with his numbers and expect them to go up this season.
Kincaid showed a weakness on YAC (or it is Allen's throwing style), All short yardage redzone TDs went to Allen or Murray. Cook with ability to get YAC was a more better option in the Red Zone.
-
He needs to catch the balls more in stride. His YAC after was very limited

I got a feeling they will trade him next year … he will be better off too… he is still a TE1 on some team and his role in Buffalo is diminished …He still makes those tough sideline catches.

January (and February if you are the Super Bowl Loser) is the month of overreaction. Emotions are high and disappoint after a gruelling season is at its peak for 31 teams.

Huge upgrade over Gabe Dropavis. Sign a S and go BPA in the first and 2nd.
We still need to hit on many of the 11 draft picks so that we can get younger faster. 2024 will be the last year of Diggs and Miller. We will be looking to also get replacements for them this year.

Trolling 101.
We don't need OL. Chop at DE maybe and that's IF we trade up big time in the 2nd for WR
Or we can trade out of the 1st into the top of the 2nd and get an additional third and still get your 2nd WR and a safety with the 3rd.

Numbers may confirm or change my opinion, but I’m glad we’re staying young and not spending heavy on an aging pass rusher.
Von, Rousseau, AJE, KJ is a room we can roll with if we spend/draft elsewhere.
and two draft picks at the DE would be awesome,

AJE is strange because a meh player cant randomly look like TJ Watt .. and he absolutely looked like Watt against Jax. That was an insane performance.
But as you point out .. he just disappears too much.
or rather never got too much of a chance from McDermott
Lance Zierlein: Bills should draft 2 WR in the first 3 rounds

We do have two TEs who can play inside and outside and also a RB who can catch the ball from anywhere on the field. The guys who were most productive last season were Cook, Kincaid and Shakir and they are still forming the core of your group
