I agree. This is also why I don't want us trading up to the top 10 & giving away a ton of picks.

There are so many colleges and so many players, there's no way you can get a good look at all of them. A lot of it has to do with the situation they're drafted into, the coaching, opportunities, surrounding talent, etc.

I didn't want the Bills to draft Allen, if only because I still had PTSD from the drought & had zero confidence they could develop a raw QB. Thankfully this was a much different organization, and the support, coaching & FO were significantly more capable than in the past.

You have great WRs like Diggs, Hill, & Nacua all drafted late, or guys like Terrell Owens from colleges nobody pays attention to like Chattanooga. I hope the Bills don't get hung up on one guy & trade away the farm to grab him, but instead cast the widest net possible to scour every corner for potential quality starters

They say, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.  You sell the farm for one guy and he doesn’t live up to expectations or  tears an ACL in training camp, then trading all those other assets away looks stupid.

Thomas’ physical tools are tremendous and you can see he has a lot of upside, but right now he isn’t a finished product.  Baja admittedly has great corners, but they basically erased Thomas in that game.  He is an outstanding prospect, but I don’t think he would step into lead dog role right away, maybe not even this season.

Would you think he’d be a step up over Gabe right away though, even before any potential polishing?  And then the team can lean on the likes of Kincaid, Samuel, Shakir and Cook to fill the rest of the role we lost in Diggs.

Watching Jayden Daniels freelance to Thomas, I could totally see him and Josh  hooking up for some huge plays.

Maybe not as much of an overdraft, but I think at least 1 of the WRs people see as late 1st early 2nd may go ahead of Brian Thomas.

On the flip side one of McCarthy, Penix or Nix will slide way further than most mock drafters want to believe.

Interesting, any perspective on why you think Thomas will slide and/or not be 4th off the board?  I was watching tape of him last night, salivating at the thought of Josh throwing to him.  Seemed like he would take Gabe’s role instantly but be way more dangerous.

He gets plenty of criticism on this board.  He also gets plenty of applause.  Do you think the national media should be shredding him?  Should Pegula call a pc to inform everyone that Beane isn’t getting a pass?

What shall we do ensure he doesn’t get a pass?

Not sure what the point of this thread is.

  5. Do we ultimately know whether it was Diggs or the Texans that pushed the restructure of his deal so that he’s a FA after this season?  Reason I ask is there’s a lot of speculation that Diggs is gone b/c of his relationship with Josh, his potential decline in skills, etc.  But did the move primarily come down to what Diggs wants from a contract perspective versus what the Bills thought was appropriate?  For instance, the Texans must have known this tidbit when they traded for him, and been willing to give up a future 2nd round pick for a 1-year rental, right?

I get ya .. but had  he stayed with the Bills and wanted to be here he’s making the$$$.. He’s betting that he will make up that $$$ after this year with another similar or higher deal. I just don’t see it based on his production as no longer being a superstar #1. But I could be wrong.

Agreed, he’s betting on his upcoming season to pay off for him.

If next years 1 is worth the same as this years pick at the end of two you wont get up too far to justify it to me.

To me it will come down to whether a WR that Beane really likes slips to within range.  So like one of Top 3 slips outside of Top 10, or Thomas Jr is there within striking range and Beane really likes him.  Otherwise, Beane would need to really love one of the other WRs to move up from 28 at all.  And if he’s got like 2-3 guys graded late 1st or 2nd round, he could either trade up/down into middle of 2nd.

    It’s $100 in 1 year, not 10.

And the drop from 1st round to 2nd round is a lot more than 5th round to 6th round for example.

I’m just saying if I was GM, I wouldn’t like that value reasoning.

I’m sure each GM has a way more complicated value reasoning system that our rule of thumbs are giving credit for, or at least they should.

Doesn’t make sense. Bills pick 28th this year. Worst they can do next year is 32nd. Teams know it’s going to be worth at least 600 points.

    I don’t know, if I was selling, I wouldn’t like these prices.

Right, but the pick is a year down the road, rather than in this year’s draft.  The value of a 1st round pick in next year’s draft is worth less today, versus 1st round pick in this year’s draft.  Give me $100 today, and I’ll give you the $100 back in 10 years w no interest.  Sound like a good deal?

    Why is a 2025 #1 only 300 points?

In reality, it’s speculative.  Obviously very much depends where the Bills finish in 2024.  My understanding to get the value of a pick in next year’s draft, you essentially go back a round from this year’s draft.  A 2nd round pick in this year’s draft is worth 270-580, depending on where one is picking.  So if you think the Bills will be better than worse in 2024, their 2025 #1 is worth closer to 270 than 580.
