This has been on my mind a lot since my grandson forced me to watch the "Pro Bowl" competitions. My wife was there and said "Payton Manning is my favorite QB of all time, next to Jim Kelly" and I can dig that, I LOVED watching Manning play.  But it got me to realize how much I miss watching him play.  Along with guys like Kelly, Elway, Marino, Moon, Young, Montana, etc.

Many of us have been a Bills fan for a long time and we desperately want a Superbowl win, but are we cheating ourselves when it comes to Josh?  I say this because I sat back and thought about how much I missed watching those guys play and it hit me, Josh just finished year 6, how many more do we have him?  6-8 More years is my guess so he might be halfway through his career already, and all we can do is talk Superbowl.

Maybe we are missing it?  We have THE best QB (A pure generational QB) in the NFL and I think we want a Super bowl for us and him, so bad that we aren't just sitting back and enjoying watching him play, enjoying what we have.  I plan on trying to just sit back each game and enjoy with my grandson watching Josh just sling the damn ball around the field, and hopefully, we get a title in the process.

Absolutely!  We all know that winning the Superbowl would be the pinnacle of many of our lives when it comes to entertainment.  Not reaching that moment obviously has been a pain point for many of us.  With that said, the amount of joy and entertainment that Josh has provided to me has been tremendous, it's been a pleasure watching Josh, our MF'ing QB do things that no other QB on this planet can do.  Not just in the wins that he has afforded us but how he has done it which arguably is the most entertaining QB we have seen in our lifetimes.

I'm appreciative that we are able to experience this and I wouldn't trade it for the world.

  2. I like the idea of being a heavy 12 formation team, but Knox's contract is too rich.  I think they should look to restructure and somehow incorporate a cut within that structure.  You could look to extend it by a year or two and have those years be very low payout years and spread out the cap hit.  Or they could just ask for him to take a pay cut and restructure.

I think Knox would go along with some variation of a pay cut and restructure.

I looked at his list and the Athletic’s list and there are 13 guys they agree have potential cap savings, but not necessarily on what to do. Both ended up with 70 million in cap savings.  They both looked at restructuring Allen, McGovern, Knox, Milano and Bates.  They also agreed on extensions for Dawkins, Douglas and T. Johnson.  Where they disagreed on how to get the cap savings was Harty, Hines, White, Poyer and Morse.  Tompsett suggests pay cuts for all 5 players.  Hines and Harty may take a cut, but Poyer and Morse won’t.  White may take a cut, but I doubt that as well. The Athletic suggests extensions for White and Morse using void years and non-guarantees (White) to get the cap down and a restructuring for Poyer.  Personally, I’d move on from both Harty and Hines and save 8.7 million.  Both are easily replaced.

Tompsett also suggested looking at restructuring Diggs since he isn’t going anywhere for the next 3 years, releasing Martin, a pay cut for Neal and restructure for Oliver.  These moves could potentially save another 20+.

Re-signing D Jones was the panels highest priority.  Others mentioned Edwards, Floyd, Ty Johnson, Epenesa (although he’s probably too expensive to re-sign) and Dane Jackson or Rapp.

They also mentioned Elliott at RB and Mooney at WR.

Agree with the restructuring of Allen, McGovern, Milano and Bates.  Add Oliver to this list

Agree with extending Dawkins, Douglass and T. Johnson  Possibly Morse

Ask for pay cut from - Knox, Harty and White

Cut from team -  If White doesn't take pay cut, cut him, cut Hines

Leave as is - Diggs and Miller  (You only restructure guys you are fairly certain that will be with you the following year and neither in my view are certain)

Re-sign - D. Jones, Edwards, Ty Johnson, Epenesa and Dane Jackson    (Possibly RAPP if they don't pick one up in FA)

External FA positions to heavily consider:   Safety, DE, IDL and WR.

  4. I'm thinking the Bills right off the bat in FA pick up a safety, DT and WR.  Then they will address safety, DT, DE, WR and OL through the draft and pick up a couple other players after the draft to fill in the roster.

Because they didn’t beat the chiefs, chiefs, bengals, and chiefs.

sitting on one aggregate stat and crying over it is, dont want to be too insulting, but it’s pathetic.

beating the piss outta various bad (and sometimes good!) teams during the regular season over the past 3 seasons doesn’t mean anything as far as winning championships.

That's bull####.   The Bills have beaten a lot of good teams, the last two games in the playoffs against the Chiefs could have gone either way.  There was definitely some bad juju and luck.  If the Bills don't give up the 13 seconds or even for that matter the bad luck of a loss of a coin flip in that game or this last game, if Jones gets to Josh Allen 10/100's of a second the game very likely ends differently or even just having Bernard play that game it most likely is a different ending.

The point is that the Bills are right there, they have been dominant and they have been the toughest challengers to the Chiefs over the past 2 years in the league.

This bitching and moaning that the Bills are so far off and that they need to completely retool is preposterous.  No wholesale changes need to be made, they are right freaking there, surround Josh with more playmakers through this draft, get a couple solid Defensive contributors and the Bills will be right there again next season.

In whatever place these freakozoid athletes get to mentally, Allen has no choice but to get there with them. Jordan has it, Tiger has it, Nicklaus had it, Brady and Montana had it. I’m sure Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio had it. Recently, all three Tennis greats have it.

It’s all upstairs. There are ways we can tell that a great one has the instinct for winning championships. It’s how they talk, what they say, what they believe is happening, and how they lead the situation to reach the top — total belief in yourself to be the reason your team wins championships.

Athletes are insanely confident individuals. Even proven competent pros think they’re the very best at what they do, when they’re clearly not, usually because of physical limitations.

Allen has the physical talent to be in the historical sports best-of-the-best group, so he’ll have to find that mental place that gets him there. His, focus, concentration, and determination needs improvement.

The OP in his own way makes a good point.

The great ones have that special sort of pettiness and anger to them to help fuel themselves and their teammates in the big games.  I have seen Mahomes, Brady, Manning and Jordan all go over to their teammates and completely unloaded on them.  Whether you agree with it or not, that is what they do.  Josh, even though he is ultra competitive he is also Mr. Nice guy with his own teammates.

I think he needs to not so much change who he is, but if a player does something wrong and it's a big game, then he needs to let them know.  Put some fire behind it, show that Killer instinct.

This isn't an overreaction, I've had this view of Josh for a couple years now and I think that is the last piece that Josh is missing.  Sometimes, you have to put Mr. Nice guy to the side and hold your teammates accountable, even if that means getting into heated sideline moments.

The Chiefs were good on Offense, Defense and ST.  We have ways to go to catch up with them all three phases

No offense man, but this sort of analysis drives me crazy because it's not rooted in anything resembling reality.  The Bills have defeated the Chiefs in the last 3 regular season games, which they take very seriously.  The Bills have lost the last two games against the Chiefs in the playoffs literally one by a coin flip and the other where if Chris Jones just gets in 10/100's of a second later on the 2nd and 9 the Bills would most likely win.

The Bills are right freaking there, there don't have to be wholesale changes or anything of the sort, those games could have gone either way.  Not to mention if we had been just a teeny bit more healthy, the Bills most likely win.  The Bills are extremely close to being able to win it all, just need to execute a hair better and we beat the Chiefs.

I have very little doubt that the Bills will defeat the Chiefs in the playoffs at least a couple times in the next 5-8 years.  As long as the Bills have a health Josh Allen, the window is open.

  8. The Patriots never really irked me because we were never even close to being anything resembling competitive against them.

Contrary to many fans on this boards thinking we are truly right there with the Chiefs.  We won the last 3 regular season games and the last two playoff games were literally coin flip games.   Could have gone either way.

The Bills are on the cusp and we are on the cusp because we have Josh Allen.  I have every confidence that we will end up beating the Chiefs in the playoffs at least a couple times over the next 5-10 years.

  9. All this bed wetting from some of our fans.   You whine as if we are miles away when in fact both our last two losses against KC the game could have gone either way.

The Bills are on the cusp of getting over the hump.

Also, the main core players will still be here for the Bills next year, we have 3 new players on offense who broke out, Shakir/Cook/Kincaid.   That should give fans a lot of hope, get another playmaker through the draft and a couple other solid picks on defense and this team will be ready to take the #1 spot barring significant injuries.

  10. I think he has shown he can be a highly effective back 15-20 touches a game and the other backs should get around 8-12 touches.

obviously the concentration drops were killers and he will have to get that cleaned up.   I also think he hit a wall the last 4-5 games.  I think his body wore down as he never had that many touches since he was probably in high school.

His lateral quickness is fully on display when I watch him. Will be very interested in combine numbers here. He's a little shorter than I would like for our eventual #1 WR but no denying the guy is rock solid YAC kind of player

Combines are going to be absolutely huge for him.  If he somehow manages to run in the 4.4's he will be a first rounder.

If you can create space that’s all I care about. We have too many receivers who don’t create any space and then we have to rely on Josh to fit it in tight windows. Yes to get a guy who is explosive right off the jump, like Brian Thomas Junior and Troy Franklin and even Worthy would be nice, but it’s not essential if you can just get some space for Josh to work with early in the route. We don’t need an Evans or Higgins because that’s just Gabe Davis with slightly better hands in our offense. We need Joe Brady to watch a lot of Matt Lafeur‘s tape and it would be even better if we had our own Tyreek Hill (one can dream)…but even though hill isn’t walking into our locker room there are a lot of guys in this draft that can be difference makers for Josh

Of course I’m not nearly as privy as the scouts to who can do what, but based off what I’ve seen, I don’t know if I’m sold on Legette.  His size and speed is incredibly attractive, but his route running is meh, he has struggled to separate in the senior bowl and has a very short track record of good production.

At this stage you would be largely drafting him on potential.   And aside from Franklin who may not be there when we draft, I don’t see any other explosive possibilities worth the 28 pick aside from Worthy.

However I am beginning to really like McConkey, dude played for a top team, has several years of good production and is a tremendous route running technician who is really twitchy who can separate.   I just get the feeling he is going to end up being a #1.   He reminds me a little bit of Diggs.

I just don’t want to miss and I think McConkey has one of the highest floors in the draft at the WR position.

I think explosiveness is absolutely the #1 trait the Bills need. Way, way, way more important than size. Sure, hands is #2. But they need a guy who is explosive.

I’ve been thinking this quite a bit lately:

What happens if there is a prospect available who is a great route runner, who is pretty twitchy, decent speed that can separate that is rated higher than the top explosive down the field prospect?

I think you go with the higher rated prospect than the ideal explosive player.

  14. Joe Brady will get to have the entire off season to design plays for this offense, this past season he didn’t have “his” plays for this offense to execute under his vision and they still executed pretty well.

Joe will need to figure out a way to get Diggs in positions to win.

Diggs will go into the season as WR #1.

Diggs will need to perform like a #1 WR this next season specially when it matters or he will most likely be cut before the 2025 season.

  15. Preferably, I would rather have the Bills draft a blue chip WR prospect who can blow coverages off the top.  Tremendous speed with track record of production.  Such as a Franklin, Worthy and possibly Legette.  Legette worries me a bit because he is unrefined and has only one season of good production but that size/speed/build combo is appealing.

I would also like to see the Bills use another early to mid rounder on a WR who is a twitchy, polished route running technician who can separate and this draft seems primed to have a number of those sort of potential prospects.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of day 2 and 3 picks who go on to be very good receivers in this league.  We just have to hit on those picks.

  16. Is there anyone seriously criticizing Joe Brady's gameplan and how Allen was executing it.   It was nearly flawless, there may have been a couple run calls that I would have dialed something in differently in the 4th quarter and in hindsight maybe Josh should have passed the ball to a crossing Diggs but it's less than a handful of plays and even so, Josh was looking to see if that play would develop to Shakir and it did and unfortunately Jones got just enough of Allen to not be able to throw that ball accurately to Shakir.

Yes, you could argue that the situational awareness for Allen should have been to throw the immediate open guy in Diggs to run down the clock but he was looking to take the lead.

Brady and Allen both were an A + and neither were the problem.

  17. If I were to have a hot take takeaway from this last game its that we need guys who can be explosive down the field threats.   Those 3 dropped passes were killers and it was clear that the strategy for that game was first look to see if something he liked visually was there for the down the field and if it wasn't he dumped it off.  I thought it was a great gameplan and execution and for that matter discipline from Josh Allen.   Unfortunately our WR's failed us with those 3 drops.

  18. A few points:

    - Yes, he should have addressed the media, it's what leaders do.  Fans do matter and as a leader you have to face the music for these press conferences.

    - Diggs is a leader in the locker room, he works as hard as anyone and he cares deeply about winning.  Let's just stop pretending that he is apathetic.

    - Something happened to Diggs this year and I still believe that he was playing through some sort of nagging injury.  I find it hard to believe that someone plays great all their lives and from one day to the next they become a very middling receiver.  Something happened.

    - Diggs was not the player we needed this last half of the season and for that matter during this game.  He made a huge mistake with the drop and it certainly was a contributing factor to losing the game.  We needed a good version of Diggs and we didn't get it.

    - I'm concerned with Diggs play moving forward, I do think he will improve from what we saw over the past 3 months next year, but I'm concerned until he begins showing that he is still "him".

    - At the very worst, you still keep Diggs and don't even consider trading him (unless you get a too good to pass up trade offer) I wouldn't actively seek for it.  It's imperative that the Bills draft from my perspective at least 2 WR's with the first four picks.  Look at Green Bay, they drafted all these young WR's over the past 2 years and they are beginning to show out.  It's time we do the same and find our #1 and future #2 WR.   Diggs should be one of the top 2 WR's next year with a draft pick being the other.

Happens every year then Josh doesn't workout or practice all summer but he makes sure he hits up every golf course in the country. Maybe he should try out for the PGA.

I'm not saying he's the reason we lost, I just don't like all of this talk with no action. He should be calling up guys to run routes and workout. He needs to set the standard.
