That's not the argument that Cowheard is making. He's talking about "Identity." He's been talking about this for years, but it's all a tautology. It's something like "teams that win a lot have the identity of winning." Also, Cowherd along with the majority of TBD, is a walking, talking (typing), ball of confirmation bias. He makes a take (in this case years ago) and seeks all information to confirm that take and rejects any information that would refute that take. Oh, and just for reference, the Cincinnati Bengals two highest players outside of Joe Burrow play on defense. What's their identity?

BTW, the Bills had an identity; Josh Allen playing hero ball and carrying the team. Cowherd complained about that, saying that the Bills needed to establish a running game. Now that they are trying to do that, they lack an identity. I don't know what McDermott said about Colin in the past, but it seems personal.

He seems to have a bias against head coaches with a pedigree from the defensive side of the ball.

Barkley also made the mistake of giving himself up on a previous play in that drive where if he just continued forward might have got a first down to end it.  Gano missed a previous attempt.

But otherwise I thought Daboll's biggest mistake was the same thing McDermott did in week one.  Take the ball first in OT.  Right there I said to myself Jets will win.

    Kick off into EZ.  Predictable.

Jets defense holds Goants to a 3 and out.  Predictable.

    Punt from the 25.  Predictable.

And that was it.  Most llikely.

Rarely would a team not take the ball to start OT but if your offense has a 3rd string QB with negative net passing yards for the game it might make sense.

I remember an OT game where a Lions head coach won the toss and deferred.  It was a solid decision in that for the entire game neither team had moved the ball in a particular direction which was in to strong wind.  That'd be a situation that makes for a strong call, imo.  It didn't work out and the HC got ripped for it. It seemed almost universally ripped, btw.  I  thought very strong call given the situation.  I'd have to research the particulars.

  3. Sucks for Dawson.  That's the problem with injuries.  Try to play with one to help your team but then have trouble performing up to standard and see where that gets you.

As an aside, my biased recommendation is to pluck Stephen Carlson off the Bears practice squad.  Princeton smart, good hands, special teams experience with the Browns and used often as an extra blocker with them prior to his preseason knee injury in 2021.  Bears have Kmet, Tonyan and Lewis ahead of him on their active roster.  Plus, he is from Jamestown and I watched him play often would like to see him get a shot to revive his NFL career.

Did you see what the wind did to that miss?  I don't know that you can put that one on Bass

That kick attempt looked windblown for sure much like what happens at the scoreboard end at the stadium fka the Ralph.  I do not think  a mishit football can slice as much as my mishit tee shots do but the flags on the goalposts were still at the time.  Patriots up to some shenanigans with the wind currents maybe.  That was a headscratcher as to what went on.

  5. There is a certain level cringe worthy fan reaction to how ex players are received when visiting with a new team.  Every player need not be booed as some collective knee jerk reaction to them having left, whatever the circumstances were.  In Tyrod's case, he was traded for a Brown's 3rd round pick.  He gave it his all and represented the team well while here.  I think his two best games as a Bill were ones in 2016 which were given away by Rex Ryan's lack of attention to detail.  Seahawks and home Dolphins.

Genuinely what is ‘hero ball’…this is one of my biggest pet peeves in football discourse right now 😂 the dude had to dodge pass rushers to buy himself time to attack deep to move the ball.  Is that not hero ball?  Is it only called hero ball when it doesn’t work?

If hero ball is finding a way to push the ball down the field when your offensive line is getting smoked we likely needed even more hero ball in that one lol

I too have noticed that the term has morphed into failed off-script plays.  The successful, off-script, "I've never seen that done before Josh" plays have become so routine that they defy a moniker.  It's just what Josh does.  The new reality is Josh checks down more and runs less.  Completing two passes in a 3 play sequence and not getting a first down seems so outside of his football character.  The offense needed to create more first downs and they were slow to realize how badly they needed them.

That was an article with someone referencing PFF. Not actually a PFF site. The author is probably using data from last year after Von went down.

    Seems just poorly written.

I suspect, either poorly written or poorly researched.  It should read something like: "After Von Miller's Thanksgiving Day injury last year the Bills pass rush ranked...........according to PFF but this year they rank them _________ after 4 games.

But I could be wrong if what Einstein has reported is accurate.

  8. I think it merits special attention because Holland was stiff armed and pushed to the turf but was still in Knox's path so he got run over as well as Dawson got the 1st down.  That's 1 guy getting  double barreled shots of angry run.  I doubt he wanted to watch that play in the video review session.

Beane is top-notch.  Glad we have him.

In a similar situation, I would quickly tell him that I am proud of the team he has assembled.  They are good people and players with results worthy of my fandom.  I do not think this is true of many teams around the league.  Maybe that's the biggest professional compliment I could give him.

At the time, I agreed with Bill Polian when he said in his closing press conference about the Bills teams he built, "They're a very special group of men. Cherish them, you will not see their like again."  Brandon Beane has made us wrong.

Some nerd should take all the different QB rating metrics out there (passer rating, pff grade, qbr, DVOA, EPA, etc.) and average it out to give the most accurate ranking.  To me the eye test of a skilled observer will always win out though.

The nerd's alias is Bruce Nolan and he named it QB Stew.

  11. This is the natural result of the home blackout rule being lifted in 2015.  Less demand for tickets in the local market makes for more availability on the resale markets.  My daughter's travel softball team scheduled Sunday games in PA that match the first 3 Bills home games, uhg!   I am glad there is a venue and demand to resell my extra pair of seats and make back almost half of what I paid for the entire season.  For that playoff game vs. NE in 0 degree weather I sold them at a loss.

If you are traveling to a game, the cost of the ticket is likely a small portion of the total cost to see the game live.  The airlines and hotels know what's up.

Remember when Frazier did that on 3rd and long last year, Johnson and Hamlin misplayed the play and Waddle scored touchdown? The pitchforks were out!

Not from me.  They didn't lose that game on that play, imo.  If you have two backup players in the right place to make a play and the guy from the other team wins, that's just football.  Being unable to finish at the end of multiple 10+ play drives in unrelenting 120 degree heat was my go to reason for the loss.  Guys getting multiple IVs, puking on the field, cramping up and an OL playing on an injured knee because there was no one else left to put in.   I wonder how close we might have been to a Corey Stringer incident.

I'm no DC, but I see us flooding the middle of the field and even dropping longer guys like Rousseau and Epenesa into that mix to block vision and disrupt routes while we bring other guys off the edges.  Tua isn't even a one-read QB.  He's simply throwing to spots and expecting guys to be there, and they have been.... so far.

It would be a mistake to think Mike McDaniel has somehow solved football.  We will have a plan for them.  And they will have to adjust.  But what will they do?  Have Tua throw outside the numbers?  Child please.

Dropping a DL into coverage is my idea as well.  Tall guys underneath in-breaking routes sounds like a tipped ball or two to me.  Why rush 4 if there is rarely time to get there even if they beat the block early. Maybe 8 in coverage will make Tua hold the ball a little longer and give the 3 guys rushing time to win and get to him.  Could rush 3 at the snap and then send an underneath defender on a delayed rush when an OL looks for work elsewhere.  Wrecking the timing, making Tua hold it longer and then move from his spot seem like the goals to me.
