Bills release wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling

‘Valdes-Scantling, 30, signed a one-year deal worth $2.25 million with the Bills this offseason back on May 14. This comes after spending his two seasons prior with the Kansas City Chiefs, winning back-to-back Super Bowls.’

Bills earn ugly win over Jets on ‘Monday Night Football’

‘With the win, the Bills now take a commanding lead in the AFC East standings in the win improving their record to 4-2. The Bills were able to get help from rookie running back Ray Davis with James Cook out of the lineup with foot/toe injury.’

McDermott: Running game helped open up passing game

‘However, part of Allen’s success in the passing game was the result of a strong rushing performance from the likes of rookie Ray Davis and veteran Ty Johnson, who combined for 131 yards on the ground.’

Allen lauds running backs stepping up in Cook’s absence

‘”Awesome to see. It’s why we drafted him,” said Allen during his postgame press conference with the media. “He’s so quick in-and-out of his cuts, he’s downhill… he runs super hard. I’m proud of him for stepping up.”‘

Opinion: Bills find a way with much-needed win

‘The Bills also had to overcome themselves.’

Opinion: Capaccio: Arrow Up/Arrow Down: Bills at Jets

‘RB Ray Davis – The rookie was terrific, running physical and catching the ball. He ran 20 times for 97 yards, averaging 4.9 yards per carry and caught all three targets thrown his way for another 55 yards, finishing with 153 total yards from scrimmage.’

Opinion: Simon: Bills-Jets Preview

‘The last two games, while averaging a measly 15 points, Allen has completed just 43% of his passes for a total of 280 yards and one touchdown. It’s a combination of factors that has taken a once high octane passing game and made it look feeble of late. Receivers aren’t getting open. Allen has missed on a number of throws including deep balls when his target had a step on the defender. The line has had some hiccups leading to Allen getting flushed from the pocket and throwing on the run.’

Opinion: Capaccio: Bills at Jets: Sal’s keys, notes and stats

‘The Jets fired their head coach, Robert Saleh, this week. Usually when that happens, a team gets a bit of a bump in their play. Maybe from an energy boost. Maybe because they’re paying more attention to detail. Maybe they’re more accountable that next week. Whatever the reason, the Bills can’t get caught up in the Jets emotion and need to match their energy from the start of the game. Take the crowd and emotion out of the game early, and don’t give New York any hope.’

Ed Oliver ruled out for Bills at Jets

‘Wide receiver Khalil Shakir, running back James Cook, nickel cornerback Taron Johnson, and defensive tackle Austin Johnson are questionable for the game.’

McDermott: Correct process ‘leads to winning’

‘”We talk a lot about process here, and the results sometimes is variable. If our process is right, and that’s really the root of everything we do. So a lot of the conversations this week were based on that,” said McDermott while making his weekly appearance on the “Extra Point Show” on WGR. “I would say, a week, two weeks prior to this, lot of those process conversations were on the defensive side. Then this past week, certainly, a lot of those conversations on the offensive side, and just making sure that we’re good. And then from a staff standpoint, communication wise and just situational football-wise, making sure that our process is as air-tight as possible. That’s what leads to winning.”‘

Bills still without Khalil Shakir, James Cook, and Ed Oliver

‘Wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle), running back James Cook (foot/toe), and defensive tackle Ed Oliver (hamstring) were all non-participants during Thursday’s portion of practice that was open to the media.’

Bills missing number of key pieces for Wednesday’s practice

‘Those who did not practice on Wednesday included wide receiver Khalil Shakir (ankle), defensive tackle Ed Oliver (hamstring), running back James Cook (foot/toe) and wide receiver Curtis Samuel (foot/toe).’

Opinion: On the same page?

‘While yelling about the merits of running the ball backed up at your own three-yard line with 32 seconds to go rather than throwing three-straight passes, I think a decent question to ponder is, what the objective was for the Bills’ decision makers in that moment?’

Opinion: Wandering thoughts: A weekend from hell

‘The “everyone eats” slogan is kind of dead after the past two games, as the wide receiver room has turned into more of passengers than capable of making plays.’

McDermott says the final offensive series is on him

‘”I love the ball in Josh’s hands,” he said. “That said, in hindsight, maybe run the ball once and see where we are from there.”‘
