‘”You look around the league there’s a lot of teams in the hunt,” McDermott said. “We’re in the hunt. [It’s] Thanksgiving and close to the end of November and we’re in the hunt. When you sit around that table tomorrow you say, ‘we’re in the hunt.’ There are a lot of teams that wish they were in the hunt. Well, we’re in the hunt.”‘

‘McDermott said “we’ll see” when asked about Benjamin’s availability this Sunday when the team travels to Kansas City to face the Chiefs.’

‘The Bills, naturally, did neither thing, and they are a few weeks away from finalizing the season no one wanted for them and that they should have avoided at all costs: stuck in the middle, not good enough for the playoffs, not bad enough for the draft’s richest rewards.’

‘Bills fans were holding their breath when Kelvin Benjamin went down holding his knee, after making his first catch against the Chargers. Sean McDermott today at his press conference on Benjamin “good news is there’s no ligament damage to (Benjamin’s) knee. We’re still evaluating him.”‘

‘”Yeah I get it, 5 interceptions, but you have to drill down on it and say why did it happen? Really who was at fault, so I can evaluate more thoroughly and accurately.”‘

‘”It was surreal. I didn’t envision that happening. He starts 3 for 3, then we get a tipped ball of our own guys’ hand, it’s a pick. Then the next drive we get backed up, and it’s a pick. I wish we had done more around him.”‘

‘I mean honestly, you’d think maybe we’d seen it all in 17 years of the drought. This was a new low, which in and of itself is incredible. Who would’ve thought we’d get this? Maybe you hated this decision from the start, plenty of people did. But five first half interceptions? Honestly, it’s hard to process that it actually went as poorly as it did.’

‘The Chargers continued to move the ball with ease on the Bills.’

‘I want to say right up front here that I’m not going to judge Nathan Peterman on one game. It didn’t go well, and some of it wasn’t his fault. The position of quarterback is only one of the problems that face McDermott and his staff. I still don’t believe the future quarterback of the Buffalo Bills is even on the roster yet. In the mean time, the team has a lot of work to do.’

‘The bigger issue with McDermott is whether or not he just lost the locker room. That may sound a bit extreme considering the Bills are still tied for 6th place in the AFC but you know there are players, especially those that believe in Taylor that are wondering what the heck McDermott was thinking? It might be tough to preach “trust the process” this week around One Bills Drive.’

‘That’s 638(!) yards given up on the ground by the Bills defense in the last three weeks. Over 212 average per game. Wow.’

‘“It was pretty emotional, a little bit, trying not to show it obviously,” he said. “It’s a dream come true, obviously, to get this opportunity. I’ve been through a lot, I think, to get here, too. It’s certainly not done, though, at all. It’s a great opportunity, but it’s still all in front of me. I’ve got to go work to earn it.”’

‘”I’m skeptical. Here’s the idea, the problem in the last 3-4 weeks -and particularly in the past couple weeks- has been defense… Maybe with injuries, the trade of Marcell Dareus, them being a little light up front on the defensive line, they’re starting to get pushed around and the defense is giving up too many points and too many yards. And that’s been a multiple week thing.”‘

‘”We are 5-4, I understand that and we are in the playoff hunt at this point. It is always, and for the time that I am here, will be about becoming the best team that we can possibly become. We are made for more than 5-4, and I’ve come here to be more than 5-4.”‘

‘Nathan Peterman is not going to replace that. Peterman showed an ability to scramble in the preseason, but does not have near the athletic ability that Taylor has. What Peterman should provide the Bills, is more timely throws, and Bills fans would hope is less dump offs to the likes of Mike Tolbert and Pat DiMarco on 3rd and long. In reality, Peterman may be a very comparable passer to Taylor. Efficient. Not a gun slinger. Efficient.’
