‘But what if they can’t trade up and there are no QBs general manager Brandon Beane deems worthy enough of selecting with the No. 12 overall pick Thursday night? In that case, if the Bills decide to go in a different direction and address QB later, here are two linebackers and two wide receivers, both needy positions, who could potentially land in Buffalo and how they would fit the Bills…’.

‘Cross your fingers and hope the Bills are no worse than 4-4 at that point. If they are, they could take advantage of the remainder of the schedule which includes five home games. My concern is a Bills team that has some big roster questions at this point will be 3-5 or even 2-6 midway through.’

‘Most players love playing on primetime on national TV in front of their peers. And a lot of fans love seeing their team in that spot, as well. It’s not often Bills’ fans get to see their team at home in that situation, especially a Sunday or Monday night. At least they’ll have that chance one time this year, and for the first time since the Bills lost 37-31 to the New York Jets on Thursday night in week two of 2016.’

‘The Bills are in the market for a long term answer at the most critical position on the field. Of course they’ve been in that market for the last 20 years. Even though Beane has yet to complete a full year on the job, the heat is on due to a number of factors. The Bills traded away the player who had been the starting quarterback the last three years and whether you liked Tyrod Taylor or not, he was the guy on the job when the 17 season playoff drought thankfully came to an end.’

‘”When I think about myself as a professional football player, it was when I was playing in Buffalo. Whenever I talk about playing football, I talk about my time in Buffalo. For me it was a hands down, no brainer to comeback and retire as a Buffalo Bill.”

‘The 27-year-old Palepoi signed with the San Diego Chargers as an undrafted free agent in 2014, then stuck with the team for four years. He played 44 games for the Chargers, all as a reserve. He missed all of 2015 with a fractured foot. The 6′ 2”, 300-pounder was a college teammate of new Bills defensive tackle Star Lotulelei at Utah. Palepoi recorded his first and only career sack last season. He’s recorded 53 total tackles in the three seasons he’s been healthy and played. Palepoi was suspended four games on December 12, 2016 for violating the NFL policy on performance-enhancing substances.’

‘If any player wants to return to the field after retiring, he has to request through the commissioner to be reinstated. The Bills went through the same situation last year with wide receiver Anquan Boldin. They retained his rights for the entire season and ultimately released him last month.’

‘Allen has been one of the quarterbacks many in the media have the Bills trading up for in mock drafts. Allen had struggles with accuracy in college. He finished his career at Wyoming with a 56.2% completion percentage. However, he’s also seen as the quarterback with the most physical tools in this draft class.’

‘According to a tweet from Pillar Sports Management, Jackson’s agency, the 37-year old is set to sign his one-day contract and retire as a Bill on Wednesday. In addition, Jackson will be holding a meet and greet session with the fans following the event at the Walden Galleria.’

‘Even before Beane was hired, McDermott, essentially in control of the roster, began reshaping the team via free agency and trades. Beane’s arrival only expedited that process as quite a few players who were acquired by the previous regime were fast-tracked out of Orchard Park.’

‘Even though McDermott’s squad will be on the field, the Bills coach isn’t allowed to be there with them just yet. Neither is new offensive coordinator Brian Dabol, returning defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, or any of their position coaches. That’s because during Phase One of the offseason program, only strength and conditioning coaches are allowed on the field with players, who can only be there to participate in basic strength and conditioning or rehabilitation exercises.’
