Bills-Vikings: Arrow Up/Arrow Down

‘What a fantastic game Yarbrough played. From the very first play of the game and into the fourth quarter he was making plays on defense and showing up on the stat sheet. He finished with ten total tackles, including two for a loss. Unless the team decides to keep five defensive ends, Yarbrough is still probably on the outside looking in, but at the very least he put a great game on film to show the rest of the league.’

Bills trade guard Wyatt Teller and a 7th to Cleveland for a 5th and 6th round pick in 2020

‘Teller was drafted by the Bills in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft (166th overall), the pick the was sent to the Bills in the Marcell Dareus trade to the Jacksonville Jaguars. Teller started 7 games in 2018 as a rookie, but was pushed down the depth chart after Buffalo revamped the entire offensive line in the 2019 offseason.’

Bills sign Hauschka to a two-year extension

‘If Hauschka can return to 2017 form, the Bills will be much better off for signing him to this deal. They ranked 10th in field goal percentage that season. If Hauschka has another year like last season, maybe he won’t see the end of his new contract.’

Bills place Mike Love on I.R., waive De’Ondre Wesley

‘The move of Love to I.R. opens the door for rookie Darryl Johnson to make the 53-man roster. Johnson, a seventh round pick from North Carolina A&T, has flashed plenty of length and athleticism this preseason.’

Vikings at Bills: Who to watch for

‘Two big touchdown grabs over the past two weeks for Williams has really vaulted him into the discussion as one of the wide receivers who should be kept on the roster. But it’s also how he made those grabs, by using his big body to go high and show he can be a valuable red zone target. That’s something the Bills really don’t have on the roster and where Williams has a chance to carve out a niche. He may still need to make another play or two like that Thursday night to show he’s worthy of a roster spot.’

There’s been much more to Wade’s journey than meets the eye

‘”It’s been a struggle and a grind every day,” Wade told me while sitting in the stall of one of those not-too-noticeable lockers. “There were definitely times when I doubted myself, internally. I woke up doing a lot of self-talk, just reminding myself why I’m doing this, and just pushing myself to want to keep working every day and just wanting to get better every day. Once the games came around and I got an opportunity to play and I scored a touchdown and made another play, those are the moments that kind of help me to stay motivated and just gives me the strength to keep pushing on because those moments signify that I’m going in the right direction.”‘

Bills’ Duke Williams making noise to be on the opening day roster

‘Williams is not a kid that just got out of college. He’s 26-years-old and started with the Edmonton Eskimos in 2017. When Williams found out he was going to get some time with Josh Allen and the starters, he didn’t make too much of it, “It’s football. I don’t try to put no pressure on my shoulders, I just try to go out there and make plays, earn my teammates trust, earn the coaches trust and make the best of my opportunity.”’

The Bills release punter Cory Carter & claim a linebacker

‘As for Cory Carter, he suffered a season ending knee injury during the preseason last year, and dealt with injuries again in recent weeks. His release means that Corey Bojorquez is the lone punter on the roster. Does that mean he’ll be the Bills punter on opening day? He hasn’t quite been so good that that can be assumed.’

McDermott: no timetable yet on Quinton Spain’s ankle injury

‘Spain injured his ankle in the team’s 24-20 preseaon win over the Lions Friday night. He was carted into the locker rom for evaluation. When McDermott was asked for a prognosis, he said, “we don’t really know right now. It’s too early. So we’re just taking it one day at a time right now.”‘

Bills’ Duke Williams gets work with Josh Allen

‘I was so glad to see Duke Williams get first team reps in the first quarter with Josh Allen. Allen never threw him a pass, but Williams had some very good blocks springing Frank Gore on a 27-yard run and running his man five yards deep into the end zone on Devin Singletary’s nine-yard touchdown run.’

Bills-Lions Arrow Up/Arrow Down

‘What a warrior Gore is. The ageless wonder got loose for huge 27-yard run, but then got hit late and had to come out of the game with a leg injury. You’d think that would be the end to his night, but there he was just a few series’ later taking handoffs again. Gore finished with a game-high 57 yards on the ground, averaging 7.1 yards per carry!’

Get Houston on the phone

‘Could Nsekhe and McCoy be enough to get Jadaveon Clowney? I sure hope so, because trading two 30-plus year old players for a young franchise pass rusher is exactly the deal the Bills need.’

Bills remain unbeaten in preseason, beat Lions 24-20

‘The Bills starters were plagued early with turnovers, penalties and even injuries in the opening half, with the offense having only one first down in the opening quarter, which was awarded to them by a personal foul penalty by the Lions defense. In addition, their first quarter struggles were compounded with a fumble from receiver Cole Beasley that allowed the Lions to open the scoring with a field goal.’

Anderson reflects on his time with Bills, mentoring Allen

‘“My job was to help him get ready. To prepare him week-in and week-out,” Anderson explained. “We aren’t just going to run plays at practice and go home. We are here to work,” he said to me as if he was back talking to Allen himself on a Wednesday morning getting ready for a game.”‘

Bills need to follow the trend around the NFL

‘Even if you take into account the backups/depth guys there still aren’t many decisions to be made on defense. We are probably talking about the last guy on the depth chart at defensive end, linebacker and cornerback and perhaps the fourth safety. The starting defense has looked good in the first two games although they did not face a starting quarterback. They might not against the Lions either since there is no definitive word as to whether or not Matthew Stafford will play. He has been held out of Detroit’s first two pre season games.’
