‘Buffalo cruised to a win over the hapless Houston Texans on a rainy Sunday at Highmark Stadium. The weather was a factor, with both teams losing possession of the ball due to the wet conditions. It was the Bills who could capitalize on their opportunities.’

‘Remember the Zach Ertz trade that never ended up happening? Well, thank god, huh? Knox has looked like the type of player Bills fans hoped they were getting out of college. Most inside the organization had preached patience and for good reason. He was a walk-on quarterback at Ole Miss and had a dramatically raw skillset, so patience was going to be key to his development.’

‘The Bills fumbled the ball three times, and not just due to the weather.’

‘We already know the Bills will be without starting safety Jordan Poyer, as well as starting offensive guard John Feliciano. Jaquan Johnson is most likely the replacement for Poyer. He’s been in the organization for over two years and knows the system, but it’s hard to imagine Johnson being able to disguise all of the coverages and being as adept at the non-verbal communication as Poyer is with partner Micah Hyde.’

‘McDermott also said cornerback Taron Johnson (groin) and defensive end Efe Obada (ankle) are both questionable to play in Sunday’s game at Highmark Stadium.’

‘”He looks like he can make every throw,” McDermott said during his weekly appearance on the “Extra Point Show” with Sal Capaccio and “Sneaky Joe” DiBiase. “He’s tough. I mean, he’s taken some shots and gotten up. And [he’s] a smart, smart player. He played at a great school like Stanford and a great institution educationally like Stanford. I know he’s off to a great start. He’s got one of the highest, if not the highest rookie passer rating this season above all those other well-decorated and highly-celebrated players. We have a lot of respect for him, and that’ll be a challenge for us.”‘

‘Cornerback Taron Johnson (groin), guard Jon Feliciano (concussion), and defensive end Efe Obada (ankle) all missed practice after participating in some capacity on Wednesday. Safety Jordan Poyer did not practice for a second day in a row with an ankle injury.’

‘Poyer’s starting safety partner, Micah Hyde, was limited on Wednesday with a quad injury. Guard Jon Feliciano (illness) and cornerback Taron Johnson (groin) were also limited.’

‘As part of this past Sunday’s win over Washington, Allen became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to record multiple games with at least 300 passing yards, four touchdown passes and one rushing touchdown, joining Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Peyton Manning.’

‘I can’t say enough about the game plan that was put together by offensive coordinator Brian Daboll. By emphasizing short-to-intermediate throws and having Allen get the ball out quickly, the Bills were able to neutralize Washington’s front-four, which is the strength of their defense.’

‘Buffalo’s offense got off to another hot start in this affair, as after receiving the opening kickoff Josh Allen and company went to work. The opening drive took just 4:07 to find paydirt, as Allen found first-year Bill Emmanuel Sanders for a 28-yard touchdown catch. It was Sanders’ first touchdown with Buffalo.’

‘I mentioned it during Countdown to Kickoff this morning on our Network Pregame show that it was very important for Josh Allen to get off to a hot start on Sunday. After throwing an incompletion on his first attempt of the day to Devin Singletary, Allen completed his next six passes down the field leading the Bills to an opening drive touchdown.’

‘The Bills defense did a great job overall and they did get pressure on Taylor Heinicke, but they never got him down, and several times the WFT QB escaped to run for a good gain or complete a pass.’

‘After seeing how the Pittsburgh Steelers were able to disrupt the Bills passing game with very little blitzing in Week 1, Washington would love to do the same. But if they can’t and thus go blitz-heavy, they’ll give Bills quarterback Josh Allen and his receivers a big opportunity to take advantage.’

‘McDermott credited coach Jim Salgado – who primarily works with the team’s nickel cornerbacks – for Johnson’s growth, and said the team was blessed to have a coach like Salgado on staff.’
