Two Bills Drive

'It is uncertain how many more coaches McDermott will bring in, but at the minimum, he still lacks a coach for defensive backs and wide receivers.'

'It was classic motor-mouth Rex, and in many ways, served as the perfect bookend to his two-year tenure in Buffalo. He came in spewing all kinds of rhetoric that day he was introduced as the Bills’ new head coach, and now he has exited doing the same thing, albeit with a far different tone.'

He went six straight seasons without the playoffs, becoming just the fourth coach since the merger to do so. His defense was a constant source of disappointment in Buffalo. In 2016 alone, he allowed three 200-yard rushing performances and had 10 players on the field for arguably the most pivotal play of the season.'

'The Buffalo Bills have had few constants in those years and the shape of the franchise in Western New York has had multiple twists and turns along the way from different coaches, players, and more.'

'“I don’t wish (Buffalo) bad will,” Ryan said. “I don’t. But I don’t wish them luck either. I’ll be honest: I don’t wish them good luck. I don’t wish them bad luck. I just don’t wish them luck.”'

He had long expressed an interest in coaching and it was hardly surprising that it was Ryan, his former defensive coordinator with the Ravens, who gave him his first opportunity.'

'In her entry-level position last season, Smith broke down game film of past and future opponents, helped assemble special-teams game plans and assisted Crossman in coaching those units during practices and games.'

'As McDermott continues to build his coaching staff, the team announced they will not move forward with 14 coaches that were under contract.'

'That was commonplace with Rex Ryan. He would be the first one to say that he takes the blame for everything that happens on the field, while if you listen to him for long enough, he'll also dole out veiled critiques as to why things went awry.'
