Two Bills Drive

'In a sampling of 11 mock drafts from some of the most reputable NFL Draft analysts, five have the Bills selecting Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. With uncertainty surrounding the future of quarterback Tyrod Taylor, seven of these 11 mock drafts had the Bills picking a quarterback with North Carolina's Mitch Trubkisky also a possibility.'

'"I think they've got a great coach," said Jackson. "You know, one who knows what they want to do. I'm sure they are all putting in a plan of what it is they want to get accomplished right now. The next two months is going to determine what he wants to do. I know they've got the whole Tyrod thing going on. I like Tyrod. I like what he brings to the table. But again that's not my decision to make."'

'Buffalo does not have a fourth round selection this year due to trading up with Chicago last season for Reggie Ragland. Their seventh round pick was sent to Dallas in the Matt Cassel trade two seasons ago in exchange for the additional fifth-round pick they acquired.'

Two other significant topics of conversation NFL teams are expected to have about Watson are his height, weight, and the size of his hands.'

'It's time for Harvin to hang them up for good. No team can count on him to play a full season. The Bills paid Harvin a big sum of money over the last two years, largely because former coach Rex Ryan believed in him. With Ryan no longer in charge, it's an easy decision to part ways with Harvin'

'Robert Woods, Marquise Goodwin, Justin Hunter, Percy Harvin, and Brandon Tate are all scheduled to become unrestricted free agents on March 9. There’s a chance the team could re-sign at least one or maybe even 2-3 of those players. That would almost certainly not include Robert Woods considering the money it may take to re-sign him. The Bills aren’t going to make a heavy financial investment in their number-two receiver with Watkins’ rookie deal up after next season and most likely paying him big money.'

'“Everything factors in," Woods told SiriusXM NFL Radio. "It has to be the right amount as well as quarterback decision. Yes, they don’t have a quarterback right now. Tyrod is a pending free agent. EJ Manuel is coming up as a free agent and there also are many quarterbacks on the market as well.'

'Blanton contributed to the problems at safety after Williams got hurt instead of solving them. If special teams coordinator Danny Crossman can make a convincing case for Blanton to be brought back, the Bills should be able to re-sign him for a contract close to the veteran minimum. If he's looking for anything more, the team should move on.'

'Entering his first season as a head coach, it would behoove him to want to maximize his ability to start off on the right foot, which means doing all he can to avoid a worse finish than 8-8. Taylor, at the minimum, gives you a better chance of holding the fort than Jones or a rookie. And perhaps coordinator Rick Dennison and the rest of the new offensive staff will find ways to improve Taylor's game, which has yet to reach the level of indisputable franchise quality.'

'There is no reason to break the bank for Douzable. Provided the new coaching staff sees him as a good fit, he should be offered a one-year contract near the veteran minimum for a player with his experience. If he's after a bigger deal for a longer term, the Bills shouldn't sweat letting him go. Adolphus Washington, a third-round draft pick in 2016, should be ready to step into the role Douzable would be asked to play. At 284 pounds, Douzable might be undersized to play tackle, but not quick enough to rush the passer from the edge as a defensive end.'

'Still, two weeks to go, so here’s something else to think about: If the Bills decide to bring Taylor back and absorb his $15.9 million salary cap hit for 2017, where should they look to gain some much-needed cap space? I’ll offer up five players as cap casualties.'

'Buffalo was not expected to receive any compensatory picks this year. Compensatory picks are issued based on the amount of free agents you lose compared to the number you gain, as well as the type of deals departing free agents sign. Buffalo opted to sign many free agents to one-year, low-cost deals which outnumbered the free agents they lost last offseason.'

'"Usually these spots would be reserved for lesser-known players," Williamson said. "But because he has missed so much time with injury, the general public doesn't fully appreciate what a difference maker Watkins is when he is not only on the field, but at 100 percent, something we just haven't seen nearly enough of thus far. The Bills need Watkins … badly."'

'Last year, the Bills received two picks where they selected quarterback Cardale Jones in the fourth round and cornerback Kevon Seymour in the sixth round.'
