‘Bills general manager and president of football operations Brandon Beane isn’t looking for just any receiver, though. Buffalo News Mock Draft I: Targeting a wide receiver with the Bills’ first-round pick
‘KC Concepcion, WR, Texas A&M. At 5-foot- 11, Concepcion might appear to be a slot receiver, which isn’t the Bills’ biggest need with Khalil Shakir under contract. Concepcion, however, played 65% of this snaps during his only season at A&M on the outside, finishing with 61 receptions for 919 yards and nine touchdowns. He also rushed for 75 yards and another touchdown while averaging 18.2 yards per punt return and two punt return touchdowns. He’s got elite separation skills, something the Bills’ receiver room lacked a year ago. In this scenario, the Bills choose to address their need at receiver first, with the thinking being that they’ll be able to take advantage of the depth at edge rusher on Day 2 of the draft.’
Bills Mailbag: Should the Bills favor offense or defense with their first-round pick?
‘I can see the argument for Brandon Beane using his first-round pick on either side of the ball. The change in defensive scheme from a 4-3 to a 3-4 will necessitate some new personnel. It is also the side of the ball that has consistently let the team down. However, if the strategy is going to be maximizing Allen’s ability on offense, he needs better tools at wide receiver.’
Brandon Beane One of Many People Happy to See Carnell Tate’s Subpar Combine 40 Time
””Probably wouldn’t take him early,” Beane continued as everyone started laughing. Buffalo doesn’t pick until late in the first round, so he’s obviously hoping there are some front offices saying that without irony.’
‘I like being at 26 more than I do 6 this year’ | NFL analysts talk draft strategy and depth for the Buffalo Bills
‘While Buffalo seeks a nose tackle, there’s also enough defensive depth to analyze what the best fit for the team is by the time pick 26 comes around or other early round selections. Since the Bills’ defensive scheme is changing, they don’t necessarily have exact, specific needs they can be picky about. They still need to figure out what pieces they have and who on the team can play what in defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard’s defense (not to mention free agents).’
