Bills are having trouble with scrambling quarterbacks. How will they handle Drake Maye?

‘The Bills are having trouble containing mobile quarterbacks. If they’re not scrambling away from a four- or five-man rush, they’re rolling out to extend the play long enough for a receiver to get open downfield. Buffalo has allowed quarterbacks to rush for a league-high 199 rushing yards on 22 carries, nine of which have occurred on third down and eight that have gone for at least 10 yards.’

Bills notebook: Joe Brady wants to get Ray Davis more time; Bobby Babich spreads credit

‘In the passing game, Davis has been targeted twice this season. He had one reception for a loss of 1 yard.’

Bills sign punter Mitch Wishnowsky as Cameron Johnston recovers from injury

‘Wischnowsky, 32, punted for the San Francisco 49ers from 2019-24. His net average of 37.9 yards through nine games last season ranked last in the NFL among those who attempted at least 21 punts, but he missed the second half with a back injury. Wischnowsky spent three days last month with the Washington Commanders, who cut the Australian as soon as their starter, Tress Way, got cleared by doctors to punt in Week 2 game against the Green Bay Packers.’

Jim Kubiak: Josh Allen was elite in clutch vs. Saints – but he and the Bills could’ve been even better

‘Josh Allen eventually made the plays that made the difference, alongside James Cook (22 attempts for 117 yards, one touchdown), who had his third consecutive 100-yard game. Cook also set a Bills franchise record, having rushed for a touchdown in eight consecutive games. He now leads the NFL with 21 rushing touchdowns since the beginning of 2024.’

Bills star living up to his big contract and emerges as one of NFL’s elite backs

‘“It seems like he’s getting better each and every week which is hard to imagine,” Allen said of Cook who has topped 100 yards rushing in each of the last three games and with 401 yards trails only Indianapolis’ Jonathan Taylor (414). “The way that he kind of has this patience to hit the hole, but when he hits it, I mean he is shot out of a cannon. His contact balance is unbelievable. His jump cuts are awesome. I’m glad he’s on our team.”’

Buffalo Bills announce first ‘White Out’ game as they debut Cold Front uniforms

‘The team announced that Highmark Stadium will transform into a full-stadium “White Out” when the Buffalo Bills host the New England Patriots at 8:20 p.m. on Sunday Night Football. Fans are encouraged to wear white from head to toe and Wegmans-sponsored rally towels will be handed out at the gates. Wegmans stores in central and western New York are also carrying Rivalries game apparel in-store.’

Bills sign punter who once installed glass and played flag football in Australia

‘Buffalo has gone through three punters this season despite ranking near the bottom of the league in attempts.’

The Buffalo Bills just signed a punter with a secret weapon that has returners completely baffled

‘Wishnowsky, 33, spent the first six seasons of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers. During his stint with the team, Wishnowsky averaged 45.6 yards per punt. San Francisco went in a different direction at punter this offseason, leaving Wishnowsky to join the Washington Commanders practice squad in early September. He was let go by the team a few days later.’

Bills sign punter Mitch Wishnowsky to replace injured Cameron Johnston

‘The 33-year-old Wishnowsky joins the Bills after spending his first six seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before being cut in May. Wishnowsky was selected by San Francisco in the fourth round of the 2019 draft out of Utah, and his departure came after he missed the final eight games of last season with a back injury.’

Buffalo Bills encourage white out crowd for ‘Sunday Night Football’

‘The Buffalo Bills are encouraging fans to wear all white to create a white out for the team’s “Sunday Night Football” game against the New England Patriots (8:20 p.m. ET, NBC). The look will match the team’s “Rivalries” uniforms that will premiere for the Week 5 AFC East matchup.’

Bills sign punter Mitch Wishnowsky, place Cameron Johnston on Injured Reserve

‘A former fourth-round pick out of the University of Utah in 2019, Wishnowsky had spent the first six years of his NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers. In his 92 career games, Wishnowsky averaged 45.6 yards per-punt and pinned opponents inside their 20-yard line 138 times.’

Buffalo Bills plan ‘white out’ at Highmark Stadium for first-ever Rivalries game on Sunday

‘The team said fans are encouraged to wear white from head to toe and white rally towels will be handed out upon entry. In addition, the tapestry around Highmark Stadium will feature an all-white look, including the padding around the goal posts and the flags around the stadium.’

Sunday’s Bills game will be a whiteout

‘There will also be a rally towel giveaway as part of the Bills wearing their “Cold Front” rivalries alternate uniforms that were introduced in August.’

This date in Bills stadium history: Oct. 1

‘1989 — Bills 31, Patriots 10 — A sold-out stadium watched Thurman Thomas rush for 105 yards and gain another 99 yards receiving, surpassing the 200-yard threshold for the first time in his career, along with scoring a pair of touchdowns. Jim Kelly was 12 of 17 passing for 278 yards and three touchdowns, while Patriots quarterback Doug Flutie had a rough day against the Bills defense. Bruce Smith and Nate Odomes sacked Flutie, who was 15 of 41 passing for 155 net yards with a touchdown and an interception by Leonard Smith. Andre Reed led the Bills with 114 yards receiving, tight ends Pete Metzelaars and Keith McKeller caught TDs, and Thomas ran 74 yards on a short pass from Kelly for the final score as the Bills improved to 3-1.’

Bills sign Australian punter Mitch Wishnowsky to one-year deal

‘Wishnowsky, 33, is a Perth, Australia native who has carved out a seven-year NFL career with the last six coming with the San Francisco 49ers (2019-24). The 6-foot-2, 220-pound punter was a fourth-round draft pick by the 49ers in 2019 and boasts a career average of 45.6 yards per punt.’
