Observations: Josh Allen delivers as Bills finally put away pesky Saints

‘“The will to win. You know, at halftime, I could tell he was, he just had that look in his eye, and he’s just got an incredible will to win and spirit about him,” Bills coach Sean McDermott said of Allen. “I love it. Absolutely love it. … When he raises his level of play, it’s like, ‘ok, boys,’ they raise their level of play and they knew what time it was.”’

Bills overcome turnover, penalties, missed tackles in angst-filled win over Saints

‘A catch would have given the winless underdog a one-point lead over a Super Bowl contender who was favored by more than two touchdowns. An incompletion would force the Saints to settle for a field goal and give the NFL’s reigning MVP a chance to build an insurmountable lead.’

Bills defense finds plenty to clean up after Saints win: ‘We’re definitely going to turn things around’

‘The Saints finished with 298 yards from scrimmage Sunday – but they had 189 rushing yards and averaged 5.6 yards per rushing attempt, far greater than their 3.9-yard average coming into the game. Rattler scrambled for 49 yards, and New Orleans converted on five of its first 10 third-down attempts.’

Bills notes: A.J. Epenesa’s critical sack; Cameron Johnston injury update, more

‘The sack was a satisfying moment for Epenesa, who was limited all week with a pectoral injury and was questionable entering the game. But come Sunday, he felt ready to go and tried to not think about the injury.’

3 questions after the Buffalo Bills outlast the New Orleans Saints

‘It’s time to keep talking about the defense. The Bills’ defense wilted at times against the mediocre Saints. An interception by safety Cole Bishop on a bizarre trick play call from the Saints helped keep New Orleans out of the end zone, but it still was not the defense’s best day. In the first quarter, the Saints averaged 8.8 yards per play. That number eventually went down to 4.6 yards per play, but the Saints stayed in the game until midway through the fourth quarter. A dominant defense would have snuffed out the Saints sooner.’

Bills plays that shaped the game: How safety Cole Bishop made his clutch interception

‘Shaheed pitched the ball to Olave, who lofted the ball toward the end zone. Bishop leapt and used his left hand to corral the pass, hauling in an interception that ensured the Bills entered halftime with a four-point lead and helped them remain undefeated with a 31-19 win over the Saints on Sunday at Highmark Stadium. It was the first pick of his NFL career.’

Report Card: James Cook, Bills’ ground game once again does heavy lifting in win

‘The Saints piled up a whopping 189 ground yards on 34 carries, a team average of 5.6 yards per attempt. Quarterback Spencer Rattler hurt the Bills with his legs, eluding pressure and scrambling for 49 yards on six attempts. Missed tackles and gap integrity were trouble spots for the Buffalo defense. Saints running backs Alvin Kamara (15 carries for 70 yards) and Kendre Miller (11 carries, 65 yards, one touchdown) both were productive. Rookie defensive tackle Deone Walker had a pair of tackles for loss for the Bills. Middle linebacker Terrel Bernard finished with six tackles, and fellow linebacker Dorian Williams also had six tackles of his own.’

5 things that stood out in Bills harder than expected Week 4 win against Saints

‘In many ways, this felt like an early-round game in the NCAA basketball tournament where the higher seed isn’t at its best but does just enough to survive and advance against an overmatched opponent. To take that analogy a little further, this felt like a No. 4 seed (Buffalo) playing a No. 13 seed, one where you felt pretty good all along about the final outcome, but there were going to be a few moments of doubt.’

Bills report card: Josh Allen delivers late as sloppy Bills shake off Saints

‘All that said, the Bills have some things to clean up and they know it. This was a game that very nearly got away from them in the fourth quarter, but they leaned on their MVP quarterback to make two huge plays – one with his legs, one with his arm – to deliver the touchdown that helped put the victory away.’

Buffalo Bills survive scare from Saints as Josh Allen puts on the cape (Observations)

‘The Bills were 15.5-point favorites but needed a big drive late in the game from Allen to push past the Saints 31-19 on Sunday.’

Bills’ Cole Bishop’s one-handed interception might be turning point in his season

‘“It was a huge play,” Bernard said. “The first thing I told him is he saved points. They had a field goal that was coming up and possibly a touchdown there. A play that really changed the game.”’

Saints’ Not-So-Philly Special helps Buffalo Bills move to 4-0 on season (encouraged/worried)

‘Bills tackling: The Bills’ tackling on defense has been bad in three of four games. On Sunday, Buffalo missed more than 10 tackles. That kept plenty of drives alive for New Orleans and made the game more interesting than it should have been.’

Sabato: Bills know adjustments are needed but wins all count the same in the NFL

‘It ripped them from one side to the other for an offense that seemed to think the game was over at 14-7 and a defense that couldn’t stop a New Orleans Saints rushing offense that came into the day ranking among the 10 worst in the league.’

Bills notebook: Cole Bishop’s interception showcased his talent, James Cook hits Bills milestones

‘Cole Bishop watches. He listens. He learns.’
