Mark Gaughan: Josh Allen has found sweet spot as a running QB in Bills’ offense

‘“I think he’s a highly competitive player that has also adjusted his game to the modern NFL game,” coach Sean McDermott said Wednesday. “And he knows when it’s time, and he knows when it’s not time. You’re never going, to me, to take someone’s athleticism away from them. I just think Josh is in a good, healthy spot with it. And he’s done a great job this year of taking care – when he’s had opportunities to slide or get out of bounds, he’s done that. I think he’s really doing a great job with it.”’

Jim Kubiak: Why Josh Allen’s night in the snow was nearly perfect – and more proof of his growing maturity

‘The Bills’ offense ran the football 68% of the time, controlling drives with 6 more minutes in overall time of possession. The Bills scored five touchdowns and finished drives when they needed to. Offensive coordinator Joe Brady had another excellent game plan as he was able to use a sixth offensive lineman to consistently gain a power advantage while causing the 49ers to adjust with base defensive sets and eight-man fronts.’

Erik Brady: Mack Hollins would have liked Mack Yoho, who scored for the Bills every which way

‘That’s how it was in the days of limited rosters, when kickers and punters typically came from the ranks of position players. The Bills would herald the age of the kicking specialist when they brought in Pete Gogolak, pro football’s first so-called soccer-style kicker, in 1964. That’s when Buffalo traded Yoho to Boston, where he played one season for the Patriots before retiring.’

Bills bring back former All-Pro safety to bolster defense in stretch run: What we know

‘“Yeah, just had a feeling,” the backup safety said Wednesday following the Bills’ walk-through practice. “We didn’t clean his locker out. That 2-3 and all his stuff was still there this whole time, since the end of last season to now. So it’s like you got that feeling in the back of your head when you know he’s going to come back. He’s not done yet. Yeah, man, I just felt it. So it’s always good to have him back, though.”’

Is Hyde the missing piece or merely depth?

‘For the better part of a decade, Hyde and Poyer were the leaders of McDermott’s defense. After wins or losses, you could count on both to face the media and give an honest accounting of that game. And they played most defensive snaps of every game when healthy, and even some when not. Hyde and his family also made roots in the area, starting an annual charity softball game at the Buffalo Bisons’ ballpark. He also made one of the best plays in recent Bills playoff history with his out-of-nowhere interception of Mac Jones to deny a touchdown. Hyde won’t be looked at as that cornerstone starting safety now, but McDermott is happy to have his leadership presence.’

Buffalo Bills bring back fan favorite and former All Pro safety to practice squad

‘The move comes after months of speculation about Hyde. He left his future in limbo after not signing with any team or announcing his retirement following the 2023 season. During an offseason press conference before his annual charity softball game, he said that if he chose to play in 2024, the only team he’d play for was the Bills.’

How one text message sparked the return of Micah Hyde to the Bills

‘Before Phillips could even say thank you, he replied to Hyde with a question instead: “When you coming back?”’

Micah Hyde returns to Bills in practice squad role

‘Hyde, 33, has been on the couch over the past several months after becoming a free agent at the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. McDermott says he expects “very little” from Hyde in his return to the field for the stretch run.’

Micah Hyde upon return to Bills: “Buffalo is home.”

‘“Everyone’s saying, ‘Welcome back.’ It’s more like ‘Welcome home,’” he said. “Buffalo is home for us. My wife, if she could live here year-round, she probably would. She’s a San Diego girl growing up. Kids love it here. My whole family from Ohio and Detroit head this way all the time. So, Buffalo is home.”’

Micah Hyde returns to Bills practice squad for one more playoff run before retiring

‘“I just wanted to come back and do anything I could do to help,” Hyde said. “If it’s helping young guys understand the NFL on and off the field, older guys helping them with what they got to do on the field, whatever it may be, I’m here to help.I’m an open book, and so I’m excited for this role, and it’s a new role for me.”’

Safety Micah Hyde rejoins the Buffalo Bills after being signed to practice squad

‘“The goal has always been to bring a championship back to Buffalo, and if I can help in any way, if I’m able to give T-Rapp or D-Ham or whoever’s out there a nugget to make a big play in a big game, I did my job,” he added, referring to Buffalo’s starting safety tandem of Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin.’

Micah Hyde re-signs with Bills, says he’ll retire after season

‘”Just to set expectations, Micah is in a practice squad role,” McDermott said. “We are fully confident in Taylor Rapp, Damar Hamlin, Cole Bishop, Kareem Jackson. They’ve all been doing a real good job for us in the roles that they are currently in. They’re going to stay in those roles and Micah is in a practice squad role, so good to have him back and his family as well.”‘

Bills sign former All-Pro safety Micah Hyde for stretch run; vet vows to retire after final Buffalo game

‘After sitting out for three quarters of the year, Hyde now comes back to Buffalo to serve likely as a depth piece for what the organization hopes is a deep run in the postseason. The Bills have Taylor Rapp and Damar Hamlin atop the safety depth chart, so Hyde should be looked at as a valuable backup whenever he is brought up to the active roster after getting up to speed on the practice unit.’

Dion Dawkins Shared Special Moment Reuniting With Micah Hyde After Bills Signing

‘The former second-team All-Pro safety rejoined the team at Wednesday’s practice, and had a touching reunion with Dawkins, his longtime teammate,’
