Bills Place Veteran Wide Receiver Chase Claypool on Injured Reserve

‘Claypool initially suffered the injury in late July, but was considered to be day-to-day at the time. However, the ailment has lingered to the point where the Bills have chosen to end his season. While it’s unclear what kind of toe injury Claypool sustained, it’s serious enough to keep him out for an extended period of time.’

‘Elam picked off two passes in 2022, but never materialized into the reliable starter the Bills were hoping he’d be. However, late in the 2023 season, Elam began showing that he could find a role in the Bills’ defense. He picked off a Mason Rudolph pass in the end zone in Buffalo’s wildcard win over the Steelers, and began the preseason on a high note.’

‘This was seen as a potential last chance for Claypool, and now he won’t even get the opportunity to put together a good preseason to make the Bills’ roster. Claypool was garnering interest from the CFL prior to signing with the Bills, so perhaps that could be his next step, because his NFL future is now very uncertain.’

Bills sign wide receivers Damiere Byrd, Deon Cain

‘As first reported by ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler on Monday, the Bills have signed wide receiver Damiere Byrd, who was recently let go of by the Washington Commanders back on July 31. In addition, the team has added wideout Deon Cain to the fold.’

‘However, the team can work out an injury settlement within the next seven days with either player. If that happens, they would be released with that settlement and eventually able to re-sign with the Bills for whatever amount of weeks that settlement is, plus an additional three weeks. There’s some intentionality in terms of we need to make sure we see some of these runs, some of this type of thing versus this type of look or with this person, that in a game, it’s like hey, we need to get a first down… Obviously you want the end result a little better, but the how is way more important to me right now.”’

QB DiNucci grateful for opportunity with Bills
