Bills notebook: Bears reportedly request to interview Bills defensive line coach Eric Washington

‘Washington, 54, has been with the Bills since the 2020 season. He has a long history with McDermott, having worked under him previously in Carolina as the defensive line coach before serving two years as the Panthers’ defensive coordinator from 2018-19. Before going to Carolina, Washington worked three years for the Bears (2008-10) as a defensive assistant (2008-09) and defensive line coach (2010).’

‘“I remember coming here, it was cloudy … and that was when they were redoing this locker room,” Hyde recalled Monday as he was packing up his locker stall. “They had the training room down in the stadium and it was like this little ass room. And I’m coming from Green Bay with, you know, Lambeau Field and new facilities. I’m walking in here like, ‘Man, what the hell am I doing and why am I here?’ But it ended up being one of the best decisions I ever made. This is a very, very special place.”’

What’s the plan to get Bills’ Josh Allen more offensive help?

‘”I cut my teeth around Andy Reid who was a pass-first, you throw to win [coach]. And that has been my philosophy since day one pretty much here,” McDermott said. “Especially since Josh has grown into a player and the quarterback that he has. … I do believe though that you’ve got to be able to control the line of scrimmage and run when you need to run. So, I think it is important that we have that ability to run the football, in particular in Western New York.”‘
