Damar Hamlin on first padded practice back: ‘It feels amazing’

I pretty much lost my life playing this sport, so to come back and do it all again, it’s all over the place. I’m rooted in my faith. ‘”It’s another milestone,” said Hamlin following Monday’s practice. “We’ve been getting over hurdles just from everything as far as getting out of the hospital, to getting off of tubes, and all the way to running again. Not having oxygen all the way to OTAs, putting the helmet on, putting my cleats on, putting my gloves on, putting my mouthpiece in, putting shoulder pads on. It’s just another milestone in your journey.”‘

Allen goes down briefly as Bills put pads on for first time

‘Cornerback Taron Johnson was defending, and as Allen stopped at the sideline, Johnson kept going to the ball and knocked him down. Allen laid on the ground for a brief moment, appeared to point to his stomach as if the wind was knocked out of him, got up and walked slowly over to the rest of the offense. He then took a knee and was smiling and laughing in between offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey and wide receiver Stefon Diggs.’

‘“You see how I brighten up when you talk about my family. It means everything to me,” said Hamlin after practice. “These are the same people that were in the room with me when I was in the hospital bed going through my worst moments of the process.”’

‘“In football, you can’t hit that field with no hesitation. You’re putting yourself in more danger by doing that. Like I said, I made that choice to play,” he said. “I’m processing a thousand emotions, I’m not afraid to say it crosses my mind — it’s a little scary. Like I say, my strength is rooted in my faith and my faith is stronger than any fear.”’

Harris a purveyor of positivity

‘The relationship between Harris and his mom is incredibly tight. Harris calls his mom his best friend. She hears about every practice, every meeting and every relationship. Harris says, sometimes, he almost forgets Lynn is his mom.’
