Bills sign safety Micah Hyde to two-year contract extension

‘”I just want to finish what we started.”‘

Bills announce 2-year extension for safety Micah Hyde

‘According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, the deal is a two-year extension worth $19.25 million. That’s a raise for Hyde, 30, who is set to make a little more than $5 million in 2021 on the final year of his current 5-year, $30.05 million deal. Hyde’s 2021 cap hit is $6.72 million and Rapoport says that will stay essentially the same, meaning the deal won’t open up any room in a cap-reduced offseason.’

‘But if you’re looking for an area of the offense to focus on this offseason, tight end is a good place to start. Production wasn’t very good despite Dawson Knox coming on late in the season after dealing with a few early-season injuries and a bout with Covid-19.’

‘The 30-year-old Hyde had one season remaining on a five-year contract he signed upon joining the Bills in free agency in 2017, and is now locked up through 2023. He is entering his ninth NFL season after spending his first four with the Green Bay Packers.’

‘In addition to his contributions on the field, Hyde often tried to play recruiter over the past few seasons to no avail. He said anyone interested in joining the Bills is more than welcome to, but he hasn’t forgotten the number of times his offers were turned down in the past.’

Bills agree to re-sign Micah Hyde to a two-year extension worth reported $19.25 million

‘Hyde has continued to be an integral part of the Bills’ defense. He finished fifth on the team in tackles last season while helping the Bills reach their first AFC title game since 1993. The Bills, with about 6,700 fans permitted inside Bills Stadium, won their first home playoff game in over a quarter century after defeating the Colts in the wild-card round. Buffalo followed that win with a 17-3 win over Lamar Jackson and the Ravens in the divisional round.’

Micah Hyde signs two-year extension with Bills

‘Hyde signed as a free agent with the Bills prior to the 2017 season, right after Sean McDermott was hired as head coach. He’s been an extremely consistent and reliable player throughout his four seasons in Buffalo, playing 67 of a possible 69 regular season and playoff games, collecting 282 total tackles, five tackles for loss, and nine interceptions. He was voted to the Pro Bowl following the 2017 season.’

‘The move gives the Bills at least two more seasons with the tandem of Hyde and Jordan Poyer at safety, with Poyer signing a contract in the previous offseason through the 2022 season.’

‘Hyde will remain in Buffalo through 2023, which will keep him and Jordan Poyer together for a little while longer.’

‘While the Bills and nearly every other team are making moves to try to deal with the salary cap, the signing of Hyde does not have impact for this season’s cap.’

‘”I’m just super thankful and blessed to be to be in this position,” Hyde shared with media on Friday afternoon. “Buffalo has been amazing the past four years from the fans to the community, I wouldn’t want to change anything about our team. I’ve been saying this for a while, but we’re headed in the right direction. We’ve been winning a lot of games lately and we want to take it to the next level.”‘
