Opinion: Three Observations: It feels great to be AFC East Champions

‘The game was back-and-forth in the first half, despite the Bills being noticeably the better team. A muffed punt by Andre Roberts in the first half gave Denver a chance to get back in the game and hang with the Bills the whole way. But, Buffalo did a good job bouncing back from maybe the only negative play in the entire afternoon, and completely put Denver away in the second half.’

They had to fly out west, and everyone in Western New York was talking about winning the AFC East title for the first time in 25 years. ‘The Bills kicked off the 2nd quarter with another touchdown drive after Allen kept it himself and took it in from 24 yards out to make it a 14-0 game. After another dominant outing by the Bills defense, the Bills special teams unit had a costly mistake. Andre Roberts muffed the punt on a fair catch and the Broncos recovered the ball. After a Broncos touchdown, the Bills offense got back to work. Allen found Jake Kumerow, the 13th Bills player to catch a touchdown this season, to extend their lead back to two scores. They led 21-13 at the half.’

‘The last time the Bills won the division title was December 17th, 1995 after a 23-20 win over the Miami Dolphins in week 16 of the regular season. Steve Christie was the “star” of the game, hitting three field goals including the eventual game-winner.’

‘“..it was a great play by Tre White to come on that blitz,” Hughes said. “…apparently Tre’s been watching some d-line film. We always talk about getting the ball away from the quarterback with that tomahawk chop and Tre’s was perfect, textbook so I figured if he made all that work, at least I could do was go ahead and put a little exclamation point on it.”’
